History

Established in 1993.

When Bill Baras, Ph. D, and Carol Baras reflected on their success as business people, they wanted a way to use their good fortune to better their community.

In 1978, Carol Baras, the Story Lady, had started the 291-KIDS line and as they crested 30,000 calls a month, Carol dreamed of taking the service nation-wide, and that required a funding source.

The Baras’ opened the Baras Foundation Non-Profit Thrift Shop to provide a lasting funding source. As the years passed, they found many other causes to support. The Foundation has grown and its ability to contribute has kept pace.
