AMSI – San Diego

Owners beware! My condo agency fined me 3−4x for short term rentals and advertising that are against policy and did so despite my warning. All I asked was agent to attend a 15 minute meeting with me and he no showed. Just 15 minutes! Agency claimed that there was one tenant the entire time. I was very believing. However agency would not provide documentation or attend condo agency hearing. HOA stated cars constantly changes in parking spot and provided rental ads at a $ 300 nightly rate, this was ~10x my rate. agency claimed that this is the only way that they could advertise on a website but ‘followed’ all association rules. Further, I found pics of my unit at different address — was this a stupid mistake or trying to avoid getting caught. I could not believe the gall of the agency to call me again when they needed a unit to rent. Now agency may claim that I approved shorter than allowed limits, for example, comicon 2 week rental but only when there was a 2 week vacancy proceeding or following the rental to meet spirit of the law. But there is a lack of accountability.

I used this company when I was relocating from the east coast. Veronica Gore was very accommodating to my needs and requirements for the place I was looking for. We were delayed showing up to check in and she was also very patient about the delay. The customer service experience I received was excellent.

Don’t expect attention or good treatment. As a service company, seems that AMSI forget the basic rule of marketing: customer satisfaction should be the focus. We were disappointed with our real estate agent. She knew we would need to rent one more place after the first month and she just didn’t care. We tried some communication, but she was not helpful or responsive. Even after this negative experience and because they work with a lot of properties in San Diego, we kept trying with two other employees, but in the end of the day, we had the same result: frustration. They don’t pay attention to your needs.

Ask for Kate Degodoy. She is so nice, so helpful and easy to work with. We loved working with her.
We stayed for a month just off Mission Beach. AMSI was great to work with, specifically because they are familiar with the requirements for government contact housing. Everything was already set up.

2^nd year at San Diego condo location nearby Gaslamp district. Great time for vacation, Comic-​Con, and enjoying San Diego hotspots. I love the fact restaurants, bars, malls, and grocery stores are close enough to location. Great location to Petco park, convention center, and 30 minutes from most theme parks.
The condo has washer and dryer, full kitchen (dishes, dishwasher, pots and pans, refrigerator), living room, dining area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and patio. With grocery stores so close, my group didn’t have to eat out as much. So, we saved on our budget and wallets.
I would definitely re-​book with AMSI San Diego and with Kate Barkausas.

My daughter needed a place to stay and study for the bar exam in San Diego. Veronica was fabulous at meeting our needs and getting her a place. We had another place lined up and it was not suitable at all… when I called Veronica she went out of her way to get the place ready right away… it was perfect… right in Little Italy and just blocks from the exam. We had an issue with the cable on the first day and it was rectified in 15 minutes… Thank you so much Veronica

I stayed in one of the AMSI Furnished rentals from Januari till march. It was a great experience and the Agents helped me alot to find a Apartment that had the requiremments I asked for.

I have used AMSI over the past two years for my company and let me tell you how great they are addressing my needs. Kate, one of the AMSI employees, was so attentive, accommodating, and helpful when I came into town. She help me get familiar with SD and the downtown unit they put me in was in the heart of the Gaslamp district. It was perfect in every way and location! We’ve been using them since. GREAT JOB!!!

I’ve stayed at a couple of AMSI properties in San Diego, and both were great. They’re very helpful and accommodating, especially for corporate housing. It was no hassle for me whatsoever moving in and out; everything was a breeze.
I’m currently staying in a condo in Gaslamp, and have had no issues. It’s a great location and the unit is beautifully furnished. Both units I’ve stayed in were extremely clean and well kept. I couldn’t ask for any better!

Kate Barkauskas works hard to get guests for her owners — always trying to go above and beyond for her guests and owners without letting the ambiguity of this type of business affect her level of customer service.

This past spring I was relocating to San Diego temporarily for work so I was out here «house hunting» over a weekend to look for a corporate furnished rental for when I arrived to start my work assignment. I contacted AMSI (I will be decent and leave the name of the associate out) about a property they had available that I found on Craigslist. Went and looked at it and a couple different units, found one I liked. Very pleasant experience, nice mannered, willing to meet on weekends, etc. The property wasn’t available starting when I needed, so I agreed to sign the lease starting at a later date, and although I had to return to my home out of state that they would help me find another property that would be available right away until the other property was vacated a few months later.
A bunch of properties were sent to me via email, lots of questions asked, very prompt answers. I ended up selecting a unit and the AMSI associate told me, don’t sign the lease, they would rather me see the unit in person to make sure. Wow, very nice of them.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, I drove 2700 miles to get to San Diego, showed up at the pre-​arranged time to see the unit. Get to the unit, check it out, it will work, let’s do the paperwork. Nope, there was a problem. The owner of the unit also had rented it for part of the time period I needed it. Since AMSI didn’t communicate to the owner that they had a potential renter, the owner’s rental agreement precluded me from staying there. Thanks AMSI. Strike #1.
So here I am, a rental car full of my stuff, just drove 2700 miles and have no place to stay. They tell me they will try to find me another unit, but it’s late in the day and they only know of one place (but it’s not as nice and it’s only available for a couple of weeks). I ask, what am I supposed to do? This isn’t my fault. They say, I could go find a hotel. Not an option, I have a rental car full of stuff I have to unload. I told them I did not want to be in 3 different properties over a 3 month period, moving my stuff each time. They basically said that was my only option and they would charge me a nightly rate for how ever long it would take to find a new place, or get a hotel. I mull it over, tell them i will do it. Thanks AMSI. Strike #2.
I moved in, and over the next couple of days they tried to find me another property. At this point it was running right in to summer season, so everything was pretty booked up. AMSI tells me I could potentially stay where I am, and they would move the future renter to another property. I didn’t really like that idea, the place wasn’t that nice and I didn’t want to stay there for 2 months. So I start looking on my own again on Craigslist. AMSI then says they need to get me to commit to a lease where I am so they can notify the owner of the condo how much income they would be getting. I specifically asked, if I find a rental ahead of the date on the lease they wanted me to sign, if I could leave the lease early. They tell me yes, this is just paperwork they needed to have. So i end up finding a great place on Craigslist. The landlord was awesome, very willing to work with me. So I sign a lease and then notify AMSI what day I’m moving out (one day prior to the end of the lease). They tell me great, we’ll see you in August when the other lease with them starts. I get an invoice and don’t think anything of it, figured I would review when I needed to file my reimbursement claim with my employer. Foreshadow…
After about a month and a half in my new place it starts looking like my job assignment won’t be as long as I originally planned and it didn’t make much sense to move again to a third property. So 30 days out from the other lease with AMSI starting I notify them of my circumstances and that it made more sense for me to stay where I am and to cancel the other lease. They say ok.
About a month later I start working my paperwork for reimbursement. I notice that AMSI billed me for an extra night after I had notified them I was moving out of the first property. I thought that was crappy, we had an agreement that I could leave whenever I needed. So I figure i was just a mistake, I will contact them and get it sorted out. Three or four emails later, they finally respond and say I was incorrect, the lease is correct and that they billed me accordingly and oh by the way I screwed them for cancelling the other lease. Shame on me for not getting our agreement written on the lease. A few more emails of me digging up email traffic where we discussed the arrangement and still no response. I gave up. Strike #3 AMSI.
There was all sorts of promise and opportunities to have a great experience with AMSI, but I think a few unfortunate steps on their part resulted in a bad experience. I’m sure they find people great rentals all the time, but I surely can’t recommend them.
