Amidine

Sounds like this place has great barbers. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to get my hair cut. I was in San Diego this week on business from Orange County. Stopped at Starbucks, had some time to kill and saw Amidine’s. I walked in and there were three barbers cutting hair and one sweeping the floor. Everyone looked at me (so I know they saw me), but not one said a word. I stood for a couple of minutes and then finally sat down. The barber sweeping finished and sat down and was doing stuff on his phone. So I sat for about 15 – 20 minutes when a guy came in. The barber sitting got right up and got him seated. I assumed this was an appointment. However, two of the barbers finished up at about the same time. One of them started cleaning out his drawers and sorting things at his station, the other started clipping his fingernails. I waited a few more minutes and got up and walked out. That was a wasted 30 minutes.

My boyfriend needed to get a hair cut and so I just Unilocaled for a barber shop and this place showed up. We were worried that we would have to wait for awhile due to Mother’s Day being tomorrow, but the moment we walked him, a worker waves at him and immediately took him to his chair.
It’s a nice place, not the cleanest, but clean. They have a Spanish channel on, watching soccer.
Most of the men working seemed to be older, which is comforting. There is at least one person who greets anyone that comes in. They are very quick to answer the phone. Also, there is a lady worker who does women hair too.
Overall I’m satisfied with my boyfriends hair cut.

Just got a fresh haircut by the lady. Couldn’t catch her name she talked very low and I’m not a close talker. But the cut was on point I’ll be back even though it’s 20min from my house

They do not open when they say they open. Just to warn those of you who think you can get there right at 9 before work… they may not be open. Unreliable. I have been sitting here for 15 minutes now (9:15am) and still no one. There are a few of still waiting here. I am leaving…

Dennis is the only Barber I see these days. It is hard to find a good barber and when you do, just stick with him.
he takes his time, he holds you place in line even if you go to Starbucks for a coffee. His style is very meticulus and will correct any errors he made during a haircut.
I’ve been to a few others at this place before Dennis, they all did a great job. My only problem is the language barrier. I don’t have that with Dennis at all. He spends 30 – 45 minutes per client so expect a wait. When the lobby chairs are full most likely its due to the long waiting list.
The only think I don’t like about this place is they do not close the doors when the smokers are outside… Other than that for a great cut Dennis Hill is your man!

Alex is the Man! He has skill and technique! He doesn’t rush and he takes his time. He doesn’t scrape your ears and he is very careful! Alex is very friendly and accommodating to your needs! I come here every three weeks! You can call and make an appointment or you can walk in! Don’t forget to tip your barber! Thank you Alex!

This place is awesome, super accommodating and friendly. I have been going to Alex here the past couple of times, I have been to a lot of barber shops, salons, etc and I have never gotten a better haircut.

These guys are great. I take my kids to Sam once every two weeks for their part and skin fade

A very basic and haphazard hair cut that was not done carefully for more than was quoted ($ 10 instead of $ 8). While I didn’t look that bad, it wasn’t a good experience, partly because my barber was very cavalier with the clippers, which produced a shoddy, uneven hair cut. I won’t be going back, but this place can do in a pinch.

Stumbled upon this place rather randomly, checking Unilocal when my boyfriend and I were running errands on a Sunday and realized he needed a haircut before work on Monday. He happened to get Dennis, who is AWESOME. SO happy we found him, and now we always come back to this place and always wait for Dennis. He’s epic, likable, a perfectionist, and does a great, great job, constantly trying to one-​up himself with my boyfriend’s haircut.

I normally go to, wait for Dennis. Today didn’t have time. 5 waiting before r me so Jaimie cut my hair, did a great job. I love it. He’s there Thursday and Friday only… Check him out,!!!

Went to try them out to cut my son’s hair, he’s 8. We were greeted when we walked in and sat down. A few minutes later a woman walks in with her two kids and asks what the wait time was. The barber at the front who greeted us said, «10−15 minutes.»
35 minutes later, the same barber has an open chair and he calls up the woman’s kids who came in after us! I ask him, «Do we need an appointment?» He replies, «No, no, you don’t need an appointment.». So I say, «Well, we’ve been waiting 35 minutes and we came in before the customers you just took.» He says that the woman came in first to which I tell him no, that’s not true. The woman chimes in, «I can’t remember who came first.» (Yeah right! She looked right at us when she came in because there was hardly anywhere to sit). Furthermore, he knew her by first name so you she was obviously a repeat customer. The barber then makes a motion like he’s gonna take the woman’s kid out of the chair and take my son first. I said, «No, you’re already cutting his hair, finish with them.». He tells me that another barber will see my son in 5 minutes. 13 minutes went by and I told him, «I’m sorry sir, the wait is too long,» and we left. 53 minutes we waited… for nothing.
Its obvious people come here for Dennis — he had 5 people come in while we were waiting asking how long his queue was. But we didn’t need Dennis to service us, we just needed anybody and they failed! We went to Happy Barber, waited 6 minutes and got an excellent haircut.

This place is great! They take there time with your haircuts! I would know from going through a lot of barbers and usually they always rush my haircuts but these guys take their time into making your haircut how you would imagine it and better! I recommend it to any of my homies. I don’t know if they cut any female hair.

You guys suck. I asked for a low fade and got a bad high fade. And whoever cut my hair was squeezing my head and pressing on it which hurt my neck. He scraped my forehead over and over with his comb almost hitting me in the eye. I think he was drunk. On top of all of that, two other barbers were having a full blown argument with each other in front of the customers.

There are certain people that you meet in life that have a special caring spirit in what they do in work & how they treat people. & That Person is Dennis! He has been my go to guy for whatever Hair Style I’ve chosen throughout the years. He tells me the way my hair pattern grows and what to do for certain styles my hair will maintain. And I Certainly Always leave with a Smile on my Face. Thanks Dennis & Amadine! Great Go To Shop!

My husband decided to try another close by bArber shop after he had a terrible haircut at leftys on Garnett. Before that last haircut, he had many great haircuts from Leftys, but they always have a week wait and sort of an attitude.
We are VERY thankful we found DENNIS! He has been cutting hair for nearly three decades and is a true professional! He did a fantastic job and took his time, not only with the haircut but with developing a personal relationship with Chris… always nice to have with a hair stylist. Great haircut for an amazing price!!!

This place is really nice and Dennis is hands down the best barber around. I have difficult hair cause I have 7 cowlicks that every barber i have been to has messed up except for Dennis. He is who you picture when you think of a home town barber. He has been cutting my hair for about 20 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have known Omar Amidine since 2010 and can recommend anyone who wants to get a clean haircut, especially fade.
Many barber shops charge $ 15 to $ 20 for a mediocre haircut. Omar and his crew only charge $ 8 for a quality haircut which you will not be disappointed with.

Another $ 8 haircut joint for people in Clairemont! As you can probably tell, I like cheap haircuts. I dont understand when men pay over $ 20 – lets all be low maintenance, people! This place is conveniently located next to a Laundromat and a Starbucks… and a dentist. The former two are more important than the latter. I like; I like!
Pros:
— $ 8 for a quality (male) haircut.
— There’s a couple women and a bunch of male barbers. I liked Alex because of the degree of haircut precision he has.
— Saturday afternoon and no real line. I hope it’s always like this!
— I’d rather come here than Happy Barber… any day.
Cons:
— The degree of sanitation of the scissors and combs is… quite unknown. I’d actually not ask these questions. Lets just say my 9 years in San Diego, and going to the barber once a month (the low-​cost $ 8 ones, majority of the time), I havent ever gotten lice or other silly hair bugs. I’m freakin knocking on wood.
I’m so glad there’s this little haircut joint right here. I feel like I can create this routine where I put in laundry, get my hair cut, put my laundry in the dryer, grab a frappuccino, and spend a productive two hours here. Sold. I’ll be back Amidine.

Ok, so I left Lefty’s for Amidine. I needed a haircut, couldn’t get an appointment at Lefty’s and was driving down Balboa and saw a «barber» flag and thought I’d give it a try.
I’ve now been to Amidine three times.
Two women (one Cambodian, the other a Chinese Vietnamese, + Amidine himself. I’ve just walked in and haven’t had to wait yet. Haircuts are $ 8.00 The TV is has been on soccer matches each time I’ve been there. Plenty of parking out front.
No tattooed barbers. No beer. No men-​talk BS’ing. No drama. Just haircuts.
Did I mention it’s only $ 8.00 and there’s no waiting?
