Alex Nguyen Tennis

Alex is an excellent coach. My sister told me about his success with my niece when my daughter told me that she wanted to play high school tennis. Alex’s coaching helped her to make her varsity squad. We’ve been with Alex for 3 years now. When my daughter wants to perfect her smash or work on her serve, Alex analyzes her form and pinpoints exactly what she needs to improve. We’re lucky we found Alex.

No matter what level of tennis you are starting at, Alex will always be able to gauge your level of tennis and be able to teach to your level of play and progress with you as your tennis game grows. As the tennis coach for my high school team, as well as a private coach afterwards, Alex helped me play tennis beyond what I had ever imagined. Not only did he improve my game significantly, I saw massive improvement in each of the individuals on my tennis team as well as other students that he taught. I also went out to visit some of his tennis clinics for younger players (elementary and middle schoolers), and I was so surprised. These kids were hitting the tennis ball with more power, accuracy and control than most of the high school tennis players I had played against. Alex always makes sure to break down all of the aspects into great detail, but still simple enough so that it is easy to understand and apply. Alex is an exceptional coach and I would not recommend anyone else if you were looking for a great tennis coach at an even greater value.

Our son is enjoying learning tennis with Coach Alex! He is an excellent coach that ensures that the kids are learning proper tennis technique and form. We look forward to learning more!

Alex is an amazing, top-​notch tennis coach. What he was able to teach our son in the first session was more than our son had learned in several years’ worth of tennis camps and clinics. Alex is able to break down the fundamentals of the game into understandable and repeatable steps that our son can grasp and relate to. Attention to detail as it relates to form and technique is one of the first things we noticed about Alex. We appreciate Alex’s hands-​on coaching style. Alex’s teaching style translates well to mentoring young people with aspirations of a future in competitive tennis. Kids really like him. After talking to the parents of children who have lessons before and after ours, we realized that we are not the only ones who feel as strongly as we do about how great a coach Alex truly is. It was the summer right before high school and I really wanted to participate in a sport for my freshmen year of high. I concluded that I wanted to play tennis so looked online for coaches in my area. I found many but the one that caught my eye was «Alex Nguyen Tennis» I’ve been training with him for 4 ½ months now, but I can play better than some who have played longer than I have. Even though I live kind of far from the Linda Vista, San Diego area, its totally worth the drive to take lessons from him.
He’s funny, kind, understanding. Unlike typical tennis coaches who just rally with you and instruct you with the same thing over and over, Alex always corrects your mistakes when he first sees them to prevent the build-​up of bad habits. Also, unlike some coaches, Alex does conditioning,
Overall, Alex is a great friend and coach. His lessons are affordable and definitely worth your time.

Alex is a fantastic tennis coach who truly understands what it means to not only be effective, efficient, and encouraging on the court, but also a friend you can look up to at any times of need.

I met Alex first through auditions for an acapella group he was starting, to say that this man is multi-​talented would be an understatement. Throughout the years we have become very close friends and through him I was first exposed to tennis coaching.
I had always been a recreational player, launching the ball into the air using a baseball swing, but never mustered up the courage to ask a friend to teach me how to really play. Needless to say I thought in some way there would be a huge conflict between being a friend and being a student. Boy was I wrong.
This past summer, before I left to go live in South Korea, i decide to bite the bullet and ask Alex to train me seriously. This wasn’t going to be a once or twice a week hour long practice either, this was going to be once every weekday for 2 hours each day. Now I know many of you won’t opt for that option, but I wanted to really push myself.
All I can say is Alex brought all his best personalities as a friend onto the court as a coach. He is extremely caring, intense and knowledgeable. He caters his training program specifically to each student and follows up with them consistently, through tournaments, through camps, through life in general. He genuinely cares for his students. Most coaches I see today basically grab a basket of balls and just start hitting balls to the student telling them what they’re doing wrong in the process without ever showing them. Before he even lets you grab a racquet, Alex runs you through all the basics, brings you to question whether or not the drills you’re doing can actually apply to tennis. This part isn’t for everyone, and if you’re not ready for work don’t go to Alex. After all the drills, once you grab the racket, everything will just click, and this is coming from someone who would consistently hit the balls over the fence.
With Alex, it took maybe one day to start hitting a consistent forehand, and another 2 for backhand. Serving took another 2 days, and anybody who has ever coached or tried learning tennis will tell you, that is almost unheard of. The technique that Alex used to teach me will always remain in my head. Even when i start to lose focus on the court now, i have his voice reminding me of the fixes that can be done.
There is not enough i could say about Alex’s coaching. He is a great friend and an awesome Coach. Prepare to make a friend for life when you get coached by Alex.

I met Coach Alex through mutual friends in the tennis community in La Jolla /​San Diego. I’ve been meeting up with Coach Alex for private tennis lessons for the past 2 years (on and off). He is very flexible with his schedule and is very willing to accommodate. I was able to attend one of his group lessons because our schedule didn’t match for the private lesson. I think he is very dedicated to tennis and has an obvious passion for teaching.
I’ve been playing recreational tennis for 14 years (at least once a week; team captain in high school). Before I met Coach Alex, I plateaued around a 4.0 (without any professional instructions in the past). I am confident to say, I now play around a consistent 4.5 — 5.0 level and 5.5 on my peak days. Coach Alex helped me discover the importance of conditioning and maintaining a healthy body so I can reduce my injuries on and off the court. This is extremely important for any athlete. By correcting my form and conditioning me, I was able to improve my 1^st serve speed by 15 mph! (Currently serving at 125 mph). He also helped me tremendously with volleys and ground strokes. My backhand was almost non-​existent, but now I can hit winners off my weak side! Yes!
I can’t say enough good things about Coach Alex. Coach Alex is not your typical tennis instructor who just drills you with repetitive instructions until your valuable time is up. He is not afraid to be forward and correct your mistake the first chance he gets. He doesn’t sugarcoat his instructions as he focuses on high quality and efficient coaching. He makes sure that every time you step on the court — you have a goal. And when you leave — you will feel accomplished meeting your goal (or at least he will make you work hard towards it).
