Established in 2012.

Sole proprietor Tom Davis has over 14 years experience selling, installing, and repairing ‘portable’ hot tubs.

Before starting Affordable Hot Tub Repair, he worked for two years at a hot tub parts distributor where he provided technical support and training to other field technicians working on hot tubs all over the country.

The mission of Affordable Hot Tub Repair is to inform and educate hot tub owners so they can make the best, most practical decisions about hot tub ownership and hot tub repairs.

After 8 years in the AF working on radar electronics, I took a «summer job» repairing hot tubs. Six years later, I had worked in every part of the business including sales, installation, repairs, technical support and service management.

I spent the next 8 years working in IT as desktop support for Multicare Health System and as a software test engineer at Microsoft. The pay was great and I even had my own office but Fluorescent light just doesn’t compare to fresh air and sunshine.

In 2005, I started my own hot tub repair company in Everett, WA. By 2009, I was tired of working in the rain and moved back to sunny San Diego.

I worked for 2 years at Action Spa Parts, where I gained valuable experience providing technical support and parts lookup on every brand of spa in the industry.

In 2012, I started Affordable Hot Tub Repair and built my reputation one backyard at a time.

I would like to thank every customer who has helped make this company a success.

Tom inspected a used hot tub I purchased. He let me know that it needed a new heater, then ordered and installed the heater — all in good time and at the price he quoted. He really knows his stuff. The hot tub is running great! We are glad to know Tom for any other problems it may have in the future. Tom is a true professional that understands the ins and outs of hot tubs, water chemistry, and any other questions you might have on the topic of portable spas — and a nice person. Also was nice that he accepts credit cards, and e-​mails invoices.

We called Tom when our hot tub quick working and he arrived on schedule and fixed the problem quickly. I called Affordable Hot Tub Repair when our hot tub kept overheating. I expected Tom to come out and take a look at our older hot tub and give us a quote so we could decide if it was worth fixing. Instead he talked me through how to reset my control panel over the phone. It now works like new and I didn’t even have to pay anything. I will gladly recommend Affordable Hot Tub Repair to anybody having issues with their hot tub and I will certainly call them with any other Hot Tub issues we have.

I’m not a Unilocaler, but Tom is worth me writing my first. I gave him a call after seeing an error code on my jacuzzi and Tom gave me input on how to fix it without hesitating. I was able to fix the tub on my own and HIGHLY recommend everyone else using him for any needs. He’s generous with his time and very willing to help. The best.

Tom was to the point and let me know if the Hot Tub was worth the cost or risk to repair due to extensive damage of over Chlorine treatment.
Spa was part of the house purchase 6 years ago and has seen poor water quality with over treating chemicals.
Tom went above and beyond to educate me on what the damage will look like because of this problem and was straight forward with advising that it is in my best interest to dispose of the hot tub.

Our hot tub was overheating and the pumps were not working right, Tom diagnosed the problem (bad pump) via email exchanges and when he came out to actually inspect the tub he was 100% spot on right. Within the same week he returned and installed the new pump.

He took the time to explain exactly how to maintain our hot tub (we just moved and never had one before). He does not try to sell all kinds of fancy chemicals and gadgets. Obviously my spa was not working so I called Tom. He was prompt and completed the evaluation and repair within 2 days (including ordering all necessary parts). Not only was the repair professional and timely, Tom went above and beyond by educating me about different types of chemical systems AND fixed code violations that they installers should have been aware of when they installed. If you need your spa repaired, don’t bother calling anyone else… call Tom today!

Like others on this page, I am only rating one star because zero is not an option. An amazingly belligerent, unprofessional, and unhelpful individual. I called for a service call, and received an unending lecture followed by multiple rude and inappropriate texts about «kids floating face down in a swimming pool». This guy is actually scary — I don’t recommend that you call him.

Yup – all those 5-​star reviews are correct. I can’t believe the amount of work Tom did without adding any charges to his basic $ 75 service call. He did the job quickly and efficiently, and threw in a thorough discussion of how safe my wiring was, code requirements, possible problem areas to watch out for. This guy knows hot tubs. Oh, one more thing: he showed up on time! Yeah, he gave me a one-​hour window, but he was there right at the first minute of the window. How many contractors do that?

My hot tub was leaking. I wasn’t sure why but had a good idea. Tom’s website offered some information that was useful as to possible causes and he explained that sometimes a leak can be fixed, sometimes it’s a problem that will cost too much to fix. His website offered estimates of the total cost for certain types of fixes. I was confident when I set up an appointment that he knew what he was doing, and my confidence was confirmed. Tom was able to access parts of my hot tub that seemed impossible to reach and efficiently identified possible causes, showing me some worn down connections within the plumbing. He explained the likely cause (bromine floater) and we discussed options for what he could do to fix things. I was well educated and always felt like I was working with someone who knew his stuff and wasn’t a salesman.
He didn’t have the part needed to do the fix but we made an appointment for him to return. He gave me an «estimate» and told me that it was a price he could stick to. When he came back, he efficiently fixed the leak with the new parts and the price was less than he quoted based upon the materials costing less than he put in his estimate.
Everything about my experience with Tom was pleasant, right down to our casual conversation as he worked away. He was even was 100% tolerant of my barking dog who insisted that Tom stop working and play.
I am signing up for Unilocal solely to give Tom this positive review. Based upon my experience with Tom, I would expect that if you have him come look at your spa, you will get an honest, knowledgeable answer, and a reliable quote for any parts and labor, and a good counseling as to what you can do going forward to better maintain your spa.
He also seemed to be very knowledgeable about electrical codes and issues, although he is not licensed to provide electrical work. It was useful nonetheless to hear his explanations of what he understood to be some electrical issues, and when he spoke of them, it wasn’t «You need to fix this,» it was «Here’s what I understand the law to be, I encourage you to have a licensed electrician look at this.» That type of humility only strengthened my overall confidence in Tom.
Based upon my experience with Tom, I would assume that any negative reviewer had a situation that just wasn’t capable of being efficiently addressed by anyone. If I had a situation that required multiple trips and no fix in the end, I would also question whether the guy knew his stuff. My experience was 100% positive and it seemed like the issues I had were complex enough that Tom needed expertise to address them, and that’s why I was impressed.

Again I say to all who need a hot tub specialist ‚!! Look no further than Affordable Hot tub repair! Two days ago I turned on my spa and smelled this burning wire smell? Not good, smoke started coming out from the bottom of my spa! So not good all I thought was $$$$$ .I called Tom at affordable hot tub repair .I love his calm voice telling to turn off the power ??? He came over the next day opened her up and said I can fix it just like Spicolli in Fast times at Rigmont high… had me up and running in no time and for very little money. Professional and responsive. I had an old hot tub I needed to have evaluated. I checked on parts and availability. After reading reviews I called Affordable. Appointment was made. On time arrival with no nonsense.
The analysis of the condition and possible actions for the tub were honest and fair. A determination for what was best for me was provided. The price for the parts was fair and a written estimate by email was provided. All again very professional.
The repairs were accomplished at the time determined within the time frame. Again no upsell or useless finagling.
Advice for maintaining and cleaning were given in English (meaning no mumbo jumbo) in manner I could understand. Questions were answered in scientific language when asked. There is a website that you can review to get more or refresh details. The website is easy to use however it is strong on hot tub details and not fancy.
If you need someone to come and work on your hot tub you will find affordable is knowledgeable, honest and fair. If your hot tub is junk they will tell you. If it needs code up grades they will tell you, and they know why. If you need repairs they can and will do it fairly and well.
