Aesthetic Dentistry is a modern high-​tech Multi-​Specialty Dental Practice that focuses on the overall heath and care of our patients.

We specialize in cosmetic and complex reconstruction cases, including full-​mouth rehabilitation using computerized technology and an artistic eye. We also provide comprehensive dental procedures such as porcelain veneers, implants, Invisalign and an amazing new treatment, laser gum surgery that replaces the use of traditional gum surgery.

Established in 1981.

Our office started out to be in the Normal Heights area and relocated to the UTC Area where we resided for 17 years. We have now relocated to the Carmel Valley location into a new larger modern dental facility on El Camino Real off the Highway 56 and 5 /​Carmel Mountain Rd

Meet the Business Owner

Dr. Abelar graduated from University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1981. Drawing on his 30 years’ experience in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Abelar served as an instructor at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, where he taught dentists from around the world.

Dr. Abelar is well know for using advanced technology such as CT scan, digital x-​rays, and lasers. He was voted Best Cosmetic Dentist for five years running by the readers of Ranch & Coast Magazine, and appeared for six consecutive years on Top Dentist Inc.‘s list of Top Dentists, an honor bestowed by other dentists.

Our office started out to be in the North Park area of San Diego and relocated to the UTC/​La Jolla Golden Triangle area in 1990 where we practiced for 19 years. We have now relocated to the Carmel Valley/​Del Mar location into a newer modern dental facility on on El Camino Real just off the Interstate 5 and Freeway 56.

Dr. Abelar and his team to the rescue again! Without going into the painful details, Dr. Abelar was there for me in my time of dental despair. He, his team and lab came through like champs in very short order. Whether an annual check-​up or an emergent incident, there are no other folks that I’d trust with my mouth as I do Dr. Abelar and his supportive staff.

Ever so accommodating! I had a bad traffic problem that caused me to be 15 minutes late for a cleaning/​exam appointment. I called from the freeway and they told me not to worry but to come anyway. Jody called and changed her next appointments to allow for my problem and still not inconvenience the following patients. How great is that? AND, no one was upset at all— :) :)
A thorough exam showed that a suspected problem was nothing to be concerned about. YEA!!! This is like my family. Always accepting and always acting to my best interests— wait— that’s BETTER than my family! haha

All the staff here are wonderful. The studio is exquisitely spotless, tranquil, and doesn’t feel as sterile as many other dentistry offices… it doesn’t have that dentist smell. All the chairs are set up with client’s privacy in mind.
My technician was so sweet. She was friendly but not overly talkative, and explained every detail of what she was doing to me. She periodically checked in with me to see how I was doing: thank you!
I was greeted by name with a huge smile from everyone– the receptionist, Dr. Abelar, and my technician, even though I am a rather new patient.
I HATE that horrid gritty toothpaste that they use but she made sure the unpleasantness of this experience was minimized for me.
Bottom line = Super fine work. Delicate, thoughtful, comfortable, with a meticulous attention to detail.

Dr. Abelar and his team are absolutely the most professional and understanding people I have ever had the pleasure to interact with. I am the biggest «scardy cat» when it comes to seeing the dentist — I even sweat when I simply go for a cleaning. Let’s just say I had a horrible dentist — he used to hit me around the mouth and face — when I was growing up. Dr. Abelar is gentle, informative and I trust him unconditionally. Jodi — my Dental Hygienist — is fabulous! I adore her! I highly recommend Dr. Abelar to everyone. His expertise is supreme and I am confident that he would not object to me calling him my friend. Great communication! I was particularly impressed that Jody called me to let me know that her appointment prior to mine was running late. When you call the office after hours, the voice you hear is Dr. Abelar’s. Really gives you a feeling of personal attention which is carried through to office visits. I love the text reminders, confirmation, etc. This makes it easy to respond quickly. Most responsive professional office I’ve ever seen!

I am a Hollywood producer. In my previous life though, I was, among other things, a boxer. Unfortunately, that led to me being missing a couple front teeth and other damage to my smile. Well you can imagine how that would play out in my new career in Hollywood. I searched around Los Angeles, and San Diego (my home town) for the right Cosmetic Dentist to give me back my confidence and give me a shot at my new career in entertainment. I settled on Dr. Abelar because of his attention to detail, his interest in MY goals for my smile, his advanced technology, and the fact that his office was the absolute cleanest office I had ever seen. Until I walked into his office I didn’t know that even mattered to me. I also like the fact that he used to teach cosmetic dentistry techniques. Dr. Abelar spent a lot of time with me finding out exactly what I was looking for which made me feel very comfortable and confident in what I was about to do. I actually did the full smile makeover, which was all the teeth that showed in my smile. Even though I used to take punches to the face I can tell you I would rather have that, than dental work any day. LOL! But between the laughing gas and a pill for sedation, I can tell you it was one of the most comfortable medical procedures I’ve ever had! Two weeks later I had an amazing smile! I had never realized how natural porcelain veneers could look and I never realized what a difference a smile could make. People compliment me all the time and I don’t know if I would have the confidence to meet with the type of people I have to meet with if not for my new smile. I credit that decision with how I’ve have been able to be successful in Hollywood. I’ve even had the confidence to appear in a couple of my own projects (usually I am behind the camera). I now spend time between LA and San Diego but I always make time for my dental visits in San Diego and Dr. Abelar’s office. His hygienists Jody always does a great job cleaning my teeth, and the whole office has instilled a great appreciation for my dental health. Best decision I ever made. They changed my life!

Dr. Abelar practices 21st Century dentistry! He and his team professionally utilize the most «up to moment» equipment. My experience having a crown replacement was superb. I have also had the great experience of a hygiene appointment with Jodie. She is wonderful. I will not be returning to my old dentistry office even though it requires me to make an hour drive to get to Aesthetic Dentistry it’s more than worth it.

Unfortunately I waited 9 months between cleanings. Jody worked diligently to get me back to that amazing feeling when all is well within my mouth. Perhaps underappreciated in the main, Jody has excellent «tool feel» while cleaning. You can’t teach this IMO. She is one-​of-​one displaying a true gift and deftness of touch.
This balance of properties defines excellence. I am delighted to be her client.

This is a fantastic dental office with the most warm and friendly staff. I always recommend friends and relatives to Dr. Abelar for dental work and veneers. He does incredible work. Jodie is the hygienist who is an absolute sweetheart and gets my teeth looking perfect every time. Dr. Abelar and his staff are simply phenomenal. After living in New York City and Beverly Hills, I’ve made it a goal to find the best of the best. There is no doubt this is the case with Dr. Abelar. I’ve been a patient of his for about 7 years now. Being in management myself I am constantly finding little things needing improvement wherever I go. I am always pleasantly surprised that I can’t seem to come up with one thing when I’m in his office. From the scheduling to the billing to the work performed, it is always a pleasure to go there. I have been seeing Dr. Abelar for close to five years now. His staff and office is always such a pleasure to visit. I have recommended many of my friends to Dr. Abelar and will continue to do so. My biggest pet peeve when seeing a Dr. Is having to wait forever to get in but that is not the case at his office. If you are considering changing Dentist I would definitely recommend visiting his office.

Stopped in today to get my teeth whitened and I am extremely happy with the results! Jamie was able to sneak me in for a last minute appointment and I was in and out within an hour! So much easier than using the over the counter white strips every night for a week plus! Charlotte was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process! I always recommend Dr. Abelar, Aesthetic Dentistry to all my friends and will definitely suggest that they try their teeth whitening as well. I’ll be back in a few months for my semi-​annual teeth cleaning :)

I am 16 weeks pregnant and was due for a teeth cleaning. Made an appointment with Dr. Abelar’s office and to my surprise, they had an amazing new hygienist named Sue! They were so kind to me from the get go. They provided multiple extra pillows to make sure that I was comfy in the dental chair. When I needed to move my legs into a cross legged position to stay comfortable, they readily provided a lush blanket to cover my legs since I had a dress on. The cleaning was easy and painless with lots of information of how to continue my care at home. Highly recommend Dr. Abelar, Sue the hygienist, and the whole staff! Thank you for treating me with such kindness and care :)

As someone who has a deadly fear of Dentists I have to say that Dr Abelar is virtually painless ! He takes his time and explains his procedures ahead of time, has all the latest technology and is always concerned about you as the patient! I have been going to Dr Abelar for years and can’t say enough about how pleased I am with his work and of his excellent professional staff ! So let me update this, given that the doctor decided to write a reply to my post after ignoring it for 3 years. Given that he was not involved in the billing situation (his rude secretary was), I am sure that he remembers everything very vividly.
The appointment was in December 2010 and the collection has already been posted on her credit history in May 2011. Didn’t count a year no matter what calendar I have used. Regardless, you promised to charge my card after your computer system was fixed, you had my contact information on file but instead of giving me a call for payment (as promised) you decided to screw with my girlfriend’s credit /​well being. Unilocal should implement a negative star count.

To start, Dr. Abelar is a fine dentist, the best! Upon walking into the office you experience a very nice smelling lobby and are greeted by a cheery, smiley receptionist. The office is equipped with the best of the best technology and I always know when I go there, I’m getting the most updated experience. His practices are professional and promising. I’ve had my share of so-​called negative experiences when it comes to the dentist, so it’s refreshing when you encounter great dental establishments like Dr. Martin Abelar’s.
The establishment is extremely clean and organized and up-​to-​date on equipment. I know I’ve been in dental offices where things weren’t as tidy as they could have been or seem to skip out on updating dental chairs or equipment, but I don’t get that at all here and that’s something I greatly appreciate as a patient.
The staff is warm, friendly and approachable. Dr. Abelar is truly a genuine and knowledgeable professional. He makes me feel at ease while still maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. I was informed of everything pertaining to my treatment while it was occurring, and my questions and concerns were immediately addressed. He really made me feel that he is here to help his patients and offered some great advice. Thank you to my friend who introduced me to Dr. Abelar and his exceptional work :)

While Dr. Abelar seemed pleasant and professional, he tried to sell me a mouthful of sealants that were both unnecessary and not covered by insurance. Prices for services were exorbitant. I supposedly had several cavities that two subsequent dentists were unable to find.
