AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

Amazing service!!! Had a check engine light on my wife’s 2007 Chevy Tahoe for an EVAP system problem. JJ and his mechanics got it all figured out and fixed, but he also did a full system diagnostic check too, which revealed the need for new spark plugs and wires. I knew the vehicle was in need of them as part of the 100k mile suggested part replacement, but with the added system check, they were able to identify that this desperately needed to be done. The service was fast for everything and at an amazing price! Recommend to anyone for anyone with any maintenance needed!

No one trusts a mechanic. It’s just the stigma that you’re going to get ripped off. Well — not here. JJ and his team are the most honest and straightforward group of mechanics in the business. Was going to a different shop nearby and wanted a second opinion. I wouldn’t trust my car to another shop again. It’s refreshing to have an experience like this at an auto body shop.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I brought my car here because my regular mechanic was out of town. They took apart my engine to fix the ac compressor clutch. However, within a few months, my car had 10x the problems. When I brought the car to my regular mechanic, he said that whoever took apart my engine did not know what he was doing.
It turns out they had put back my engine completely wrong. None of the screws were the same size, everything was out of place, one of the parts had fallen out and was dragging on the floor, one of parts on the bottom of the engine was held together by ZIP TIES.
Worst of all, the wiring wasnt put in correctly which caused my car to overheat and caused a permanent leak in the coolant line.
This place was the worst thing to ever happen to my car. I had to bring it to the dealership because it was beyond repair.
Do not come here.

A couple of weeks ago, I had gotten a new throttle body installed in my car — last week, the dreaded check engine light came on while on the road. It would turn off for a day or so, turn back on, and turn back off. Seeing how my finances had taken a hit due to the repair, I went online to look for a place to get my check engine light read cheaply, and found that AAMCO had a deal.
Despite the late hour I had brought my car in, J.J. and his staff were kind enough to get her examined quickly — and they found out that not only did the codes just need to be reset, I probably didn’t even need a new throttle body in the first place! (When J.J. asked me if the repair shop I’d taken my car to had even tried to clean the original throttle body in the first place, and I said they hadn’t, he shook his head and told me I’d been hosed. Grr…)
Because of J.J.‘s knowledge and expertise, my check engine light is off (for free!), and now I have another option to take my car if something happens to her! Job well done, AAMCO!

Jj is awesome! I came in just before 5 on a Friday because my check engine light was on. After checking the code (for free), he was able to order the part I needed, fix it and get me out of there by 7! Very nice and didn’t pressure me to get any other type of work done on the car. He explained the issue to me and was not at all condescending despite my obvious lack of car knowledge. I really like this place and would come back! Recommend :)

I found a friend in J. J. at AAMCO. It does not take long to realize that I don’t know anything about cars. I am a gas and go type of girl. My engine light was on and it was time to renew my registration and get a smog check. I was going from one place to another getting work done or getting estimates but none of the other places worked out. One place that advertises «total car care» told me that they did the work to remove some of the codes but the engine light remained on because it had a transmission problem, and they did not work on transmissions. Huh?!? I looked around and went to a few other places that did specialized in transmissions but got the run around or the information I was provided just didn’t sit right with me so I kept looking. I work in Sorrento Valley and searched for a place that was close to work and found the AAMCO around the corner on Miramar Road. I called and spoke to J. J. He was so honest and accommodating. He was patient and explained everything to me so that I could understand. He gave me a ride to work when he had to keep the car to investigate the problem. He did the work on the transmission and explained everything along the way. He kept track of everything else that eventually needed to be fixed and he fixed other things with no additional labor charges. He’s so cool. :) It is obvious that he knows a lot about cars and has tons of experience. We built a great rapport and I really appreciate his help. My engine light is off and I can breathe easy, thanks to J. J.

I had to come straight home and write my review.
My 16 yr old daughter will be driving to Long Beach tomorrow on her own. Two warning lights came on dash a couple of days ago; a wrench symbol and an engine symbol. Great. I heard a commercial on the radio that AAMCO will check your engine light for free and let you know what’s wrong. Excellent! I Google’d the closest AAMCO to my work. It was 4:53pm. JJ Fisher answered, I told my the info listed above, he told me to come on over because he’d be there for about an hour after closing (5pm) — if it were easy he’d take care of it too!
I zipped on over. He hooked up his machine, after checking the battery and looking in the engine, hooking up another machine to read more info, about 30 mins after he started he determined that it was essentially a small emissions issue and could wait a bit of time to get to.
He insisted it was free of charge and told me he has sisters and daughters and is clear to treat women, all customers, as he would want his own family to be treated.
I can only hope to send business his way. I took some cards and intend spread the word. An honest mechanic seems so hard to find these days! He’s a great guy and I’m appreciative of his honest help.

This a really great location to get work done on your car. JJ is awesome and is an honest mechanic. JJ is the guy you want to talk to. He is really helpful and willing to work with you. Definitely would take my car here again.

What good guys here. The day after Christmas the clutch on my 4runner completely gave out on me. My AAA insurance towed my car to the shop and I’m glad they did. The owner JJ was super friendly and helpful. Initially I knew it was time for a clutch and belts. In a few days my car was done. JJ kept me up to date status, what needed attention and what could wait to stay in budget. The mechanic and JJ fixed a bunch of things at a great price in my opinion and had it done within a reasonable time for all that was done. When I showed up to pick up my truck they had actually kept all the old worn parts just to show me. I thought that was really thoughtful so I could feel assured that there was no shady business going on. After that I took my truck on the road and it drives amazingly well and I couldn’t be more thankful for the effort those 2 put in to my vehicle. Definitely where I’ll be sending friends and family from now on.
