Selma’s Chicago Pizzeria

Bland, boring food. We tried a bit of everything: wings, fried cheese, pizza and pastas. BLAND! The worst «Italian» I’ve had in quite some time. Tasteless, completely under seasoned. Waste of money and a night out.
The two stars are because the service was very good. But the food has convinced me not to return.

Pizza, wings and salad were all perfectly prepared and exactly as ordered. Staff was polite and attentive. Very clean environment and comfortable seating areas. Good place to enjoy some pizza!

Came for lunch and was pleased. Five of us had 5 different items. Four different sandwiches and one soup & salad. The sandwiches came with home made chips and small macaroni salad. Half a sandwich would have been enough for most people. We were all very happy with the lunch location. Oh, good service also.

I had their soup in a tomato bisque and a salad. This was very good. Each came separately and each also came with the same delicious bread roll. It was all great And delicious.

Food was okay. We got the calamari as an appetizer it was greasy. The salads were big but the dressing was watered down. The panini was over cooked. The pasta was over cooked, it’s supposed to be al dente. The best thing about this place was the taters… They should take almost everything off their menu and stick with pizza and taters!
The service was good. We were seated fast. The waitress was also good. She was friendly and attentive.

Found this place because my teen daughter wanted to do a date night.
She loves pizza.

We had the best service here. Everyone was very friendly, the atmosphere in the restaurant is laid back.
There’s almost too much different foods to choose from, which makes it difficult to decide what to order.
My friends and I came here on a whim, we were going to go to another restaurant but they had a 40 minute wait.
The spinach artichoke dip was good, not as good as the one my friend makes but still good. Better than a lot of other places I’ve been to. The chips were a little greasy however.
The entrée portions were HUGE, lots of leftovers for all of us to take home.
My friend loved her pizza, she ate two slices.
My other friend ordered a large platter of wings. The buffalo wings were on point, she kept boasting about how great they were. The peanut thai, not so much. The staff swapped out the peanut thai for more buffalo wings, which made my friend ecstatic.
The lasagna was great. It wasn’t excellent but great. Excellent for me was the lasagna I made in a cooking class in Bologna, Italy. High expectations, right here, when it comes to Italian food.
The baby ship was a perfect size for dessert. Definitely better than BJ’s.

I just recently began to familiarize myself with San Clemente. When I was here earlier this week to cool off, I stumbled upon Selma’s. And yes, I did notice the «Free WiFi» sign.
However, I was also hungry. OK, and I wanted me an adult beverage. Thankfully, Selma’s gave it all! I got me a tasty lunch, a lovely beer, nice WiFi, and great «scenery» to top it all off.
So how’s the grub? Judging by the «Sam-​zone» (personal size calzone) I tried, quite yummy. I ordered mine with mushrooms and basil, and I was quite happy with the result. The crust was golden brown on the outside, yet soft on the inside. And the filling? Oh, my ricotta! Ah, and the marinara served alongside brought everything together quite well.
I washed down my «Sam-​zone» with a glass of honey blonde ale. It was quite smooth for a beer. And fear not, «sweet beer haters», for it’s hardly sweet at all. Still, it’s a nice beer for those of us who aren’t heavy beer drinkers.
Oh, and I must say something about the wait staff. Not only do they «add to the scenery», but they’re also genuinely attentive and pleasant. Make sure to leave them a decent tip when paying the bill.

This review is for lunch only. Honestly I would say this is some of the best deep dish pizza in Orange County. It was light but really filling. It wasn’t overpowering with cheese and sauce which gave it the feeling of not being too heavy. Great food, good service and nice venue to take in San Clemente.

Good service, we had The Works deep dish which was tasty and very deep. Fresh ingredients and just the right combination of dough and crunch.
The favorite was the Bruschetta pasta, with suoer fresh tomatoes and excellent sauce.
The only reason we rated it four stars was due to the wait. We asked for patio which was empty and they still took 20 minutes to seat us.

When my sister wanted me to pick a place for dinner, I decided I had a hankering for Italian and, after looking at my choices, I picked Selma’s. Her friend met up with us (she lives around the corner) and we were seated immediately.
Their food was pretty decent! My seafood pasta was yummy and my sister and her friend looked like they enjoyed their pastas as well. I was the only one to finish my plate, but I was also starving.
Selma’s does also brew its’ own beer, so of course I had to try a glass of their hefe. It was… kind of bland, honestly. I couldn’t even finish it. Not that it was BAD, just not not to my personal tastes.
Service was fine, though our waiter seemed overly nervous for some reason. Maybe it was his first day? Who knows. Overall, it was a decent experience and I enjoyed myself. I’ll probably go back if I’m in the area (though I’ll avoid the beer this time around, thanks).

Selma’s is similar to BJs, but the pizza is a little better.
We’re creatures of habit when it comes to Selma’s. We always order their Hawaiin deep dish pizza and the BBQ chicken salad with a nice brown beer.
The ambienace is typical downtown San Clemente with a great patio area as well. What’s not to like!
The BBQ chicken salad is great! Just the right mix of ingredients with nice big chunks of cheese, tomatoes, broken up chips and a BBQ /​ranch sauce (I think) that makes it a novel taste. There’s rarely anything left when we order this.
The crust on the deep dish is what its all about. Their dough is awesome when it’s cooked perfectly. I say that because the quality /​taste is not always as good as it gets which is why the 4 star review. The Ladera location has proven to be more consistent vs the San Clemente location in my opinion. I wish I could tell you what’s been off on those few occasions, but you’ll know if it if you experience it.
Overall though, the pizza is what I compare most other pizzas to, so have to give them a solid approval!
