Whole Wood

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. My biggest criteria is: price! Quality of materials is important, but I’m not breaking the bank to get quality. I am a middle market guy. Quality of labor is also important.
Details:
I purchased engineered wood flooring from these guys and dealt directly with Patrick and Victor, the owners. They were very pleasant and easy to work with. I already had ideas on the type of wood that I wanted so the shopping experience was very easy for me.
Prior to going to them, I had check out other flooring stores, too, and Whole Wood’s price was really really good. As a comparison, I found what I thought was the exact same engineered wood flooring at THE FLOOR STORE, and WW’s price was literally like 50% of TFS. Being a skeptic, I wonder whether the two stores offer EXACTLY the same things.
I was also referred to one of their subcontractors, Tito, who was the one actually doing the labor: removing carpets and installing the wood floor. Tito was definitely very neat and he would listen to your requests and put them into consideration when installing the wood floor. I don’t know much about flooring at all, so I would have ideas and asked him whether the requests would be feasible. Long story short, I was really happy with his work.
Back to the WW guys… I figured after I purchased the wood floor that the wood panel thickness was thinner than the sample that I was shown. I was surprised at this and … being the skeptic that I am, I wonder if that is really what the 50% discount really got me. Not a deal-​breaker, but I would have really appreciated if Patrick or Victor would have told me this fact prior to the purchase.
Another thing that I wish I would get better transparency on: size of order and whether any excesses would be returnable. I was quoted at 120%, i. e, 20% more than needed. It sounded logical that you would want extra in case you need them and that not having enough could be a logistical nightmare. I ended up still having extra. I internalize this as because Tito was very efficient. I could have tried my luck and bought less materials, but what if I ended needing more… Anyhow, these last two paragraphs are just me being nit-​picky.

Despite that we love wood floors so much, our HOA doesn’t allow hardwood floors installed on the 2^nd floor. Patrick quickly helped us find an alternative — luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) with the look & feel of hardwood floors!
Patrick has been extremely patient and helpful in finding us the perfect LVT. Communications were prompt throughout the process. We are very happy with the price and the product we receive. Thank you Patrick and Whole Wood!

Whole Wood is more of a warehouse than a showroom so I wouldn’t say it’s the best place to start when shopping for hardwood flooring. It is simply too disorganized and overwhelming and customer service is minimal. However, if you’ve already looked around and have a pretty good idea of what you want and/​or have an exact brand/​collection/​color/​style in mind, Whole Wood can order it for you at the lowest price. I visited several showrooms to get pricing on a specific Reward brand engineered flooring and the prices (per sq ft) I got are listed below:
Slaughterbeck Floors ~ $ 6.50 material + $ 6 install
Clark’s Hardwood Floors ~ $ 6 material + $ 5 install
800 Floors ~ $ 5.79 material (did not ask about install as they were booked too far out)
Silicon Valley Flooring ~ $ 5.50 + $ 3 install
Whole Wood ~ $ 4.50 material + $ 3 install
A couple dollars here and there doesn’t seem like much, but for my 1,400 sq ft project, it adds up quickly!
At one point, I almost went with one of their solid wood options and Patrick was nice enough to dig up a couple plank samples for me to take home. Upon closer examination of these samples at home, I realized that they weren’t great quality (as some other reviews have mentioned, you get what you pay for). So my advice would be: visit a few [organized] showrooms to pick out a specific brand and color you like, call Whole Wood to ask for their pricing on that same flooring, and skip all of the non-​branded floors that they carry just to save yourself any headache down the road when it installs with gaps, warps, dents, scratches, or splits.

Will give zero star If I can. Sales persons are polite BUT be careful about their wood floor quality! You won’t get what you paid for! They will say all good things before your payment, once you paid it’s out of their business and good luck with what you get!
Purchased the most expensive mirage solid maple wood floor here, noticeable gaps (large enough to insert name card) and different wood thickness. More expenses occurred b/​c of this but they don’t want to provide any coverage for it. They consider GAPS and DIFFERENT DEPTH ARE NORMAL! If you experience that, it’s weather’s fault or your own fault.
They are trying to convince us that we should directly deal with mirage representative, and whole wood cannot do anything. But mirage representative said the opposite.
Now my project is delayed, more expenses occurred (we choose mirage floor b/​c of no chemical emission, to get prepared for our upcoming baby, but now we have to use chemical materials to take care of the gaps, and have to purchase expensive air purifier to absorb chemical emissions)
Worst experience ever! STAY AWAY if you value your money.

Best place I’ve worked with for floors! They were able to answer all my questions and steer me to the most appropriate flooring for the project in Palo Alto. I appreciated the professional follow up and Teo was always on top of my order for a very fast installation.

They were very helpful through sales but I am very disappointed with the wood quality. Scratches and dents very easily. Was hoping the quality will be good enough for many years to come. Looks like I will need to redo floors in a cpl of years.

If you are looking for new engineered hardwood floors, just go to Whole Wood first. It doesn’t have an organized showroom, but here’s what it does have:
— the biggest selection you’ll find;
— super low prices; and
— the friendliest staff.
We didn’t want to spend too much on our floors and we found that in all other flooring stores we were restricted to only a few choices in our price range. At Whole Wood, we had seemingly hundreds of options. What’s more, a few of the high end options that caught my eye at other stores but were well out of our range were half price or less at Whole Wood. Five stars don’t do it justice.
Also ask for Taio to assist you. He was extremely nice and helpful and passionate to an almost ridiculous extent.

If you ever need to remodel your floors, Patrick is the go to guy. He’s friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when selecting the type of hardwood floor one should get. When I ordered my floors, I was a bit short on the supply, but Patrick went above and beyond to help me resolve the problem. My house looks great now, thanks for everything Patrick and Whole Wood!

Before I started my remodeling and shopping for hardwood floors„ I did a lot of research on the web, as well as visit most suppliers in this area personally. After months of research, I found whole wood in San Carlos. I found them to be very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Their price was excellent, I bought my entire home’s floors from them. I highly recommend you visit their store when you are looking for flooring.
Most important of all, apart from the huge range of flooring choices and great pricing, their customer service was wonderful. I am a very very happy customer.

We purchased flooring from Wholewood a while back there sales staff was great so great that Right when I walked in I was greeted by Tao asked me what I was looking for I let him know I wanted a oak right away he brought me 3 samples. This place is very Overwheming if you don’t get some guidance but all and all great buying experience. Fully recommend these guys for your remodel

The girlfriend and I visited a few flooring stores in the bay area. We finally decided to go with Whole Wood. We were not disappointed. Their customer service is top notch. Even after the transactions, their staff (Patrick & Tio) continued to offer advise and answered our questions. These guys are awesome and I highly recommend this place to friends and families. Recommendation for this place came from a friend. We were looking to replace carpets in our new home with wood floors. We came here confused between bamboo and hardwood options. Given a tight budget, we made it clear to Patrick about our needs. He was extremely helpful in educating us with the various options. We loved the bamboo options they carried. We picked a couple of samples out of the warehouse in the sunlight to compare the grain, shade etc. After we made our decision, Patrick made it easier to fit it in our budget. The shipment came on time and everything worked out well. Highly recommend this place!

Whole Wood deserves 10 stars in our book! The wood we got from Patrick was half the price that we had seen elsewhere. Patrick is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and their installer, Tito, was the best contractor we’ve ever dealt with. You absolutely cannot go wrong by choosing Whole Wood!

super nice staff, good selection. there’s so much variety here that it can take some work to navigate. and it isn’t a «manicured» presentation. it’s a warehouse setting – a REAL warehouse. but the guys were very helpful – I showed a sample I liked, and they identified another 5 for me to consider. good prices, too.

The staff I worked with (Patrick and Taio) VERY helpful in being patient and helping me narrow down my choices within my price range and giving me honest input regarding the quality and limits/​benefits of each option. AND the installer Patrick recommended, Romulo and his crew, were AMAZING. Quiet natured, but honest, hardworking and responsive to my questions. They did a beautiful job laying out the hickory wood to bring out its beauty to the max. I had shopped around SC and RWC (including Home Depot) and this was definitely the best option with the best selection of woods and service for all budgets. I highly recommend them!

I’m in the process of having floors installed this week so I will be revisiting Unilocal after I see how nice the wood looks and how well their recommmended floor installer finishes the job. Thius far, Patrick seemed to be really invested to make sure we made the right choice for our needs. I agree with another review that it’s a lttle confusing regarding what happens after you purchasse the wood and how/​when it gets delivered. Stay tuned…

My wife and I decided to replace some nasty carpet upstairs with wood, and we fell in love with the look of wide plank oak, in gray. We looked at lots of places in the peninsula and in San Francisco, wrote down prices, took pictures, asked questions.
When we stumbled onto Whole Wood (thanks Unilocal!) Patrick was quite patient with us and showed us lots of samples. We couldn’t decide between a couple of different options and left with some samples to try them out at home. Still, we couldn’t decide since we liked all of them. We returned the samples and told Patrick we’d have to think about it some more. There was no pressure which was nice.
Finally, a month later we made a decision but when we came back in, our first choice (which was on sale) was no longer on the floor and they thought they had sold out. We were ready to go with our second (more expensive) choice, when Patrick told us to wait, and that he’d check the warehouse for us the next day because he thought that maybe there could be enough for us to use for our project. And there was!
Our installers (we wanted to use the ones Whole Wood suggested, but they were too busy, so we found our own) said it was really good quality material and easy to work with and asked where we got it. They also thought the price we had paid for it was very reasonable. And even though we were told each box could contain planks in various lengths, they all turned out to be long.
It’s been a couple of months and we love our new wood floor!

Good variety. Good pricing (cheaper than Home Depot). Good customer service.
One negative though. They could be a little bit more organized and clear about how orders get handled. They did not let me know clearly that they had a weekly delivery schedule from their SoCal warehouse and that I had to pay before a certain time to make the cutoff for the weekly delivery. Just make sure you know this before you go there.
Otherwise, my experience with them was good. The installer they recommended did a good job at ½ the price of what Home Depot was quoting. They even called back after a week to check if the installation went well.

We are SO HAPPY with our purchase and experience at Whole Woods. We worked with Victor (although everyone there was helpful and nice) and he really worked with us to help us get the engineered wood we wanted. (Homerwood engineered wood in Graphite Hickory)
I believe you will find their pricing competitive and selection vast. We were pretty set on the flooring we wanted, but Victor was helpful in showing us other options in similar color range.
Victor also helped us with the Bostik glue we needed to glue our engineered wood onto our concrete slab. Their pricing for glue was also highly competitive and the most inexpensive one we found around!
