Specialties

Val’s approach and success has garnered attention, earning her a spot in the top 1% of San Mateo County agents. Recently published as a Peninsula expert by Local Einsteins, Val’s extensive network and connections work to maximize her clients’ opportunities.

Val Vandervort, one of the mid-Peninsula’s top real estate agents, is committed to making a difference for her clients and the community. Her educated, experienced approach, dedication to best practices and expert negotiation skills turn her clients’ real estate investment goals into realities.

My two main areas of focus in selling homes are in education and negotiation. My first «real» job out of college was as a high school science teacher so educating people is second nature to me. But it was also in that classroom where I got a huge amount of experience in negotiating, which I’ve further honed through on-going training. One time I even got to negotiate two kids out of punching each other in the middle of my classroom. Now you know why I don’t teach any more ;) Because of my love for teaching, I end up attracting a lot of first time home buyers and also people who have owned their home for such a long time that they are essentially «first time home sellers». Another focus in my real estate business is customer service. I am always seeking out new ways to be helpful to my clients.

History

Established in 2003.

I started out my professional life as a high school biology teacher. I loved that job, but could hardly make ends meet and thought about selling real estate at that time to help supplement my income as a teacher. I eventually left teaching and went into the world of biotech, working at Incyte Genomics in Palo Alto. I actually found it to be a much less dynamic job than teaching. Incyte closed their doors on their west coast operations in 2003 and that opened the door for me to sell residential real estate. It was a natural fit with my love for homes, personal drive, and passion for educating.

In addition to her stellar track record with selling homes for top dollar and negotiating great deals for her buyers, Val has pioneered a charitable approach to real estate. With her unique initiative, Change Homes Change Lives, Val donates 3% of her commission to the charity of her clients’ choice.

Business Owner

Thanks for checking in here! I’ve been working since I was a teenager so I have lots of work experience I could go on and on about. I guess you could say I’m kind of a workaholic. However, I try to keep my workaholic tendencies in check because I have 4 very important family members: my husband and also 3 young kids who I know will be uninterested in spending time with me before I know it. When I have spare time, there is no shortage of things I want to do… just hang out with my family, explore new places, camp, spend time with friends, go to the beach, read, run, bike, ski, and just be outside. My dream is to one day open an independent coffee shop on Laurel where the residents of San Carlos can come and just be and relax — kind of like Red Rock in Mountain View. And if there is time to spare, I really want to learn how to fly a helicopter! Thanks for taking the time to find out about me. I look forward to learning more about you and your dream home!
