Undisputed Boxing Gym

Some people are looking to lose weight, be more athletic, be healthier, or feel better physically. Some people want to get their doctor off their backs about the blood pressure, triglycerides, or whatever. Some people just want to eat like a human and be able to buckle their pants. Whatever your fitness goals, Undisputed Boxing Gym can be the answer.
UBG is a serious boxing gym, but it is also a lot more. Led by a former World Champion in kickboxing and sport karate (Brian Schwartz), UBG is the home to a number of professional boxers and boxing trainers. That’s fine and it might be enough if you just like (need?) to hit the heavy bag and hone your boxing skills. But here’s the part your probably don’t know: beyond boxing and kickboxing classes, there are classes focusing on TRX, high intensity interval training, tabata, kettlebells, plyometrics, cycling, yoga, and just about every other body weight exercise régime that you might want.

I read through some of the other (ahem, less glowing) reviews of this gym, and with all due respect, some of them call for more than a little rolling of the eyes. Actually, those reviews bring to mind something I heard from Brian when I first joined UBG: with every workout, you get out of it what you put into it. YOU get out of it what YOU put into it. If you want a serious workout, UBG is a place you can get it. Sorry to drop names, but I think it’s fair to point out that Nonito Donaire trained out of this gym when he was a five-​division world champion and Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in 2012. A few times a year, you can turn on HBO or Showtime and see Brian Schwartz and Mike Bazzel working the corner of one of the UBG fighters. Until recently, many Saturday mornings would find Frank Gore running intervals on the Woodway curved treadmill. Among professionals and non-​pros alike, this is a place where people push themselves in their workouts, because that’s how you avoid plateaus, that’s how you hit your goals, and it’s just how some people roll.
That said, not everyone wants to eat lightning and crap thunder every freaking day. For some people, maybe working out is one of the things they do with their friends. Maybe some people can’t help checking their phones during a workout. Maybe some people can hit their fitness goals and make it look easy (and/​or good). There is a place at UBG for all such people, which just means that whatever intensity level workout you want, you can get it at UBG.

Friendly and knowledgable staff, close to the free way, offers wide varieties of classes and enrollment prices are reasonable!

Roommate: Everybody has body issues.
Me: Not me. Mine’s perfect.
Roommate: Aren’t you the same person who saw a picture of her butt from behind two months ago then joined two gyms and started working out twice a day?
Me: **silence + stern glare that says, ‘stfu, you good for nothing pos’**
That thing about the picture and my butt may be some version of the truth, but it’s been a few weeks and I’m tighter, more toned, down 8-​lbs, and my pantalones are feeling pretty darn good about the extra wiggle room + bye, bye bat wings.
The first thing I want to say about this gym is something you won’t find online. In fact, I almost steered clear because I couldn’t find class or membership prices on their website, but as it turns out, this is probably the most affordable gym you can belong to in the Bay Area, especially considering their specialty classes. Currently, there’s a Unilocal deal where you pay $ 99 a month (message them and ask) and you can take as many classes as your body can take and it’s wonderful and I’m hooked… oh, and it’s important that you know that the first class is 100% free.
To date, I’ve really only partaken in the cycling classes (Reel Ride) but the class times and frequency + general gym hours are a dream come true. First class is usually at 5:30am and their last weekday class typically goes until 8:30pm, so it jives with pretty much every work schedule. Do I wish they offered cycling classes on Friday instead of all the boxing? You bet. Sure, but that’s just me being picky.
I like that this isn’t some snooty gym. You don’t need fancy clothing and no one has a that working out to be seen attitude. The people that come here
. and it shows. I’m not in schlub shape or anything, but I’m always surprised when I see my (anonymous) ranking in class and just how dead I am at the end of class giving it my all while I barely break the top half and I’m 100% drenched in sweat. The music videos projected on the front wall mixed with the motivation from the instructors and competitive (but anonymous) leaderboard is key to clutch in ensuring I don’t let myself slack.
It’s not a super trendy gym, but that’s not what I need so it’s perfect for me. I also like that it isn’t a meat market style of gym. Sure, there’s def some hot bodies coming here, but no one’s sketch and for the most part I don’t think anyone notices anyone besides themselves… which is more than reasonable considering the pain you’ll partake in to get your body into bangin’ shape.
They offer more than boxing, cycle, cardio, and general training & mma classes as well. They’ve got a weight room, some climbing type machines, ellipticals, treadmills, small (but get the job done type) men’s & women’s showers, high altitude training dome, karate, child care, and more!
Everyone who works here is rad and they were super helpful from the point of my first inquiry about the cost of a class to after when I (of course) wanted to sign up for a membership, and every.single.time I come in. They remember your face, they remember your name, and they make you feel like you’re part of the UBG family, so it’s kinda nice.
I’m thrilled to have Undisputed Boxing Gym so close to work and to continue workin’ on my fitness.

Love the location, schedule and everything…

I’ve been there a month and, so far, it’s great. Love that it’s not pretentious like most gyms. Good people running it, fun classes, great atmosphere. Class instructors do a good job of mixing up the workouts.

I signed up here just after coming to the bay area in September and I’ve been loving it since. I got a tour around in the gym, got to try a class for free (before signing up) and I took the opportunity to get one free personal training session. The trainers are great and are really trying to push you to your limits.
The classes have been the best for me. I’ve really found motivation in this gym and learned a lot. I’ve never taken a boxing/​kickboxing class before but it wasn’t hard to follow and to pick it up fast. If the trainers sees that you don’t really know what to do they usually come and help you!
It’s been working great for me. I’m usually there between 3 – 5 times a week doing different classes. I will really miss this place so much now when I move back to Sweden.
I recommend you to try different classes and different trainers to find the best way for you to get your goals done here.

There are many gyms in the area where you can get a workout. Some have longer hours and some have a swimming pool. But NO WHERE else can you get the Boxing /​TKD inspired kickboxing workouts or the unique proprietary Indoor Cycling format of the Reel Ride that you can get at Undisputed Boxing gym! Many gyms are a «location» but UBG is a «fitness home»! Whether it be cardio fitness, boxing, tae kwon do (Golden State TKD), weight training or indoor cycling you seek you will find a group of people here to train with to take your fitness to the next level!
The TKD program is great for kids as well as adults. Golden State is a single location school with a long tradition and a «family» of instructors; many of whom grew up at this school. Come take a look. It’s not your average dojo.
Try either for a week and you’ll be hooked!

Great respect for this gym and instructors are awesome. Parking is not ideal during peak hours. However, customer service is what drags this weighting down. The membership pricing is high, but in line with what is out there. My company actually offers to rebate 50% of fitness memberships. I had my HR and corporate rep all on board to get Undisputed on the list of approved places so my other coworkers can benefit too… which was not an easy feat to do. Due to the rates not posted on the website, I had to work with the front desk to get all the information to meet corporate policy. I got no response whatsoever to my inquiries and wanting to help get more membership. Oh well.

This review is for the bootcamp class I took. During my first time here, I wasn’t even showed around the fitness area, I had to figure out all the things myself. I guess thats fine for me, since I have been going to other fitness places all the time. But I felt that they lacked in customer service.
The bootcamp class itself wasn’t great. There is Advanced Sports right in front of them, and their bootcamp class blows Undisputed out of the water. Also, I felt the gym was not a lot clean. The bootcamp exercises were the usual and none out of the ordinary. Didn’t work for me!
EDIT: The manager of the gym contacted me and offered to show me around the facility and give a free personal training session with one of the trainers. Although I decided to give it a pass, however, I do appreciate the effort made by the manager to look into the issue,

Awesome boxing gym with something for everyone from the total novice to experienced fighters.
Took a kickboxing class with the owner Brian who is a total badass. Also really down to earth and super helpful guiding you through the class.
There is also a Tae Kwon Do gym attached for all ages.
First class is free.
Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fun way to get fit!

As a quick note this review is only for my experience with Reel Ride which is the cycling class at Undisputed. Having been to other cycling classes within the area I think that this class has potential to be something greater. The instructor I took was motivating but I had a few points that caused me to give this a low rating.
Reel Ride takes place in the back of Undisputed Gym it’s in a large very high ceiling area where you’re divided between curtains from the main hallway. Music videos are projected onto a wall. This sounded like a really great concept and I was excited to get my Reel Ride on but actually being there the music videos are projected very high up on the wall. In order to be able to view the music videos your neck would have to be elongated in a rather uncomfortable position for a long period of time.
The energy just wasn’t there for me on the ride. We went up a couple hills but I didn’t get the usual drive that I get being in a cycling class. Maybe I just need to give this place another shot but I wasn’t that thrilled after taking the class. I can see that Undisputed Boxing Gym has a big fan following but I think it may be for different areas of their gym. If you’re looking for a cycling class I would suggest Revelry, Uforia or Flywheel.

I joined this gym to mix up my workout routines. For years I’ve been doing my own thing in my garage gym. And while I love the flexibility of my garage, I needed something new.
My 13 year old son and I both joined. He loves the youth boxing classes and I love the spin classes, the kickboxing classes and the ab conditioning classes. When I leave the gym my shirt is drenched. enough said.

Love the spin class here! Loved the music (90’s hip hop!!) and the instructor was really engaging. Good combination of cycling and arm exercises too. Stephanie is a great instructor. I will be back!

still loving this place, an the personal trainers are really good, holy crap I had a workout with this trainer named kimmy an man I need a nap after such a great workout. I am not sure if thats the right spelling of her name but that’s how it sounds .
Man she gave me quite a workout, I love it but I was really feeling it like whoa man ugh… more no no no not more yes more.
I am gonna take a nap an get me in some reel ride, boxing, or kickboxing, in a couple hours an I think I am good for the day.
I love this place… zzzzz naptime till workout time, like my friend says its boomtime!
Oh I forgot to add, they have a great workout room too.
I suggest you ask about the weight room because you may think it doesn’t exist unless you ask.
When you see it though, its surprisingly big.

From all of the gyms I have been a member of, UBG is by far the best. When you join, you are joining a family.
The facility itself is kept clean (floors, bathroom, mirrors, etc), clean towels are always available (Luis is the man) — staff/​front desk is always friendly & helpful.
The classes are top notch and kick your butt (that’s if you apply yourself & get push yourself to get the most out of them). Brian, Deanne, Bazz, Fabian, Whitney — you can’t go wrong with any of their classes. Each of them have something different to offer, which is great (boxing, kickboxing, TRX training, core training). If you aren’t a class type person, they even offer personal training.
If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton Sanctuary, this isn’t for you. Members here push each other, want to compete & to get better! We want to work hard & sweat. This is a BOXING GYM.
All in all, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I can almost guarantee you will want to join the madness!

As a boxer I can say without a doubt that Undisputed is the best boxing gym in the bay area. I recently had to leave because I relocated to the city, but want to write how much I love this place, because I will miss it.
I have been boxing for several years and the training I received from Fabian, who is a professional boxer and Mike (the guy in boxers’ corners for each fight) has helped me with my endurance and stamina from a new perspective.
Membership is great. Sam helped me find a plan that worked well with my schedule at a price I could afford. Training at Undisputed became a positive routine in my life.
I like how training is done in group sessions so you can find trainers that work well to your style. What impresses me most is that almost all the trainers and even the rest of staff are fighters themselves!
There is a weight room in the back to if you want to workout on your own time.
I wish they had a steam room, but besides that there is nothing more I could ask for. They have a brand new ring, plenty of heavy bags, double end bags, and unique cardio machines.
I highly endorse Undisputed, if you are interested make sure you speak with Sam, he will help you find the right plan!

I have to reiterate that I stand behind everything I said in my review.
As I mentioned in my initial review, there was a time that I would have given this place 5 stars and gushingly boast about this place as recent reviewers pointing to my post have. I confess, I too drank the Koolade. It was not until I was blind-​sided and attacked by petty gossip and I got to see Undisputed Boxing Gym («UBG») for what it really is, «Junior High, TAKE TWO.»
I have also read through all the reviews and have seen others who have given UBG less than favorable ratings. Yet, I have not seen a massive campaign attacking those reviewers. To call my review dishonest is nothing more than cyber bullying, and just WRONG. I am entitled to an opinion, whether one agrees with it or not. It is not dishonest, it is what it is, my VALID opinion.
I also suggested that people go in and check it out for themselves. By the recent reviews all citing to my post, I obviously hit a nerve, and if it means that attention would be placed on some of the issues I noted, then it was well worth the cyber bullying I had to absorb. I hope they work on the areas that need improvement and make it a welcoming place for all, not just the few UBG caters to.
Some old reviews suggest a cult like culture, and the recent 6 posts referencing my post is a clear showing of that, it’s mob mentality.
Kudos to those who fiercely defended their gym. But this deep devotion prevents them from acknowledging that there are things that can be fixed and not everybody subscribes to a cookie cutter ideology.
At the end of the day, it is just a gym. I moved on and found what I was looking for, a place with integrity and heart.

i’m writing this update because of a review by a former member-GT.nobody asked me to do this, etc… i’ve been in many gyms, workout centers spanning nearly 40years. i’ve trained in hard core dirty gyms to the plush health spas.
i have a lot of experience! i found Undisputed about 6+ years ago and was so impressed i send my children there. My daughter just got back from training there tonight. why do i care so much about this gym.
1) Professional mgmt\owners\ that really care and listen to your needs. they constantly spend on equipment and keep thing innovative – example –cycle beats class, introduction of cardio reel equipment, push pro equip, etc to keep things new & fresh in class. they have a wonderful person cleaning the place everyday
2) i’ve never had a gym ask me, «do u see some equip that you’ll need?» Mike Bazzel-​Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach, Boxing Coach, bless his soul
3) all classes i’ve seen and participated in are run by highly organized, personable instructors. classes are safe and you go at your pace. just look at variety and number of classes offered…
4) many of the members and instructors are so kind that we do talk before or after class, not during class to create and unsafe environment. many events are held here both by private members and the gym to facilitate a very friendly atmosphere. i consider this place one of my second homes cause i love the place and the people

I, too have already reviewed this amazing boxing gym, but i noticed a truly dishonest opinion of my gym. I felt COMPELLED to respond to G.T.‘s review.
#1, i am not a Lululemon Mom, I am a woman who has a great job and can afford great workout clothes to wear to the gym.
#2, Undisputed has the BEST trainers and facilities a boxing gym can offer. They have added spin classes to our gym and I absolutely love the classes! I had a back injury and i was glad that they had something else for me to do while I was healing.
#3. We have the BEST members that really work hard to achieve their goals. It’s what you put into your workout. The trainers and the member push us to be the best. It’s a family/​community, we workout hard and we play harder. I have made life long friendships at UBG.
If you come in with a BAD attitude, will never see any results, nor will people like being around you. Just sayin!
Come in and try a 5 day free pass, trust me — it will be the BEST and hardest workout in your life! And you will meet a lot of nice people that will help you attain your fitness goals.
