I came to Dr. Husbands after seeing 5 different doctors and specialists. Traditional medicine failed to diagnose or treat my condition. The doctors I saw offered needless costly procedures and long term prescription medication that only aided in covering up my health issues. I ended up seeing Dr. Husbands for a severe digestive problem that had been causing a lot of pain and kept me from eating. He is the only doctor that ordered the proper tests to find out what was wrong. He gave me a proper diagnosis and treatment. My treatment involved a diet eliminating certain foods with the addition of supplements. In his treatment I’ve had massive improvements. I can now eat without having pain! And my energy levels are back up because of it. He is also treating my allergies, fungal issues, and other female related problems. I’m very happy I found him otherwise I might still be suffering without knowing the under lying issues.

Dr Doug is extremely knowledgeable, personable, caring, and thorough. He is at the forefront of his field, stays informed of new developments, and is well known and respected for training other health professionals in holistic health.
The patient intake questionnaires and initial visit consultations give an indication of how thoroughly that each patient’s personalized treatment plan will be developed. He spends as much time as is necessary to explain issues and answer questions. He is also quite accessible by phone when needed and is the quintessential practitioner who «goes above and beyond» what is required or expected.
I actually think that most everyone should see Dr Doug for a ‘tuneup’ or as an adjunct to ‘allopathic’ medicine and for general health and nutrition/‘clean eating’. Even folks who eat in a healthy manner may be deficient in macronutrients, a situation that Dr Doug can easily identify and make recommendations to correct.
If you are in a situation where the allopathic (traditional) approach of prescribing Rxs without looking at the root cause (s) of issues has not helped you, do not give up hope. If you are willing to follow Dr Doug’s treatment plan, I feel that you will see results for even complicated, multifaceted conditions. I have referred friends, colleagues, and customers to his practice. He not only makes good recommendations, he explains why he is making these treatment protocols, so that you have a better understanding of the situation and *why* something is being done, so that each patient is a partner or collaborator in their own health and wellness.

I made an appointment with Dr. Husbands after trying for nearly a year to resolve underactive thyroid and symptoms of exhaustion and hair loss with my primary care physician. I had completely lost my patience with the treatment I received from my regular doctor. Dr. Husbands helped me improve my diet significantly and prescribed a supplement plan. Dr. Husbands is a phenomenal doctor. He has helped me more than any other doctor ever has. If there were more stars, he would definitely get them.
When I walked into his office I was ready to give up and quit. Being that I was «healthy» and very active I didn’t understand why I was feeling how I was. I was diagnosed with gastritis through endoscopy procedure last May, 2013.
For medications, I was given proton pump inhibitor and metoclopramide by my GI specialist. For food, I was given a list of what to avoid like spicy and fatty food.
Despite these, nothing improved. Things got even worse. I developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I ate less for fear of repercussions. I felt weak, very insecure, and hopeless at the same time. My monthly period became irregular and I am just 42.

Dr. Husbands is a highly knowledgeable Functional Medicine doctor. Being a woman in my early 40’s I started to experience afternoon fatigue, anxiety and waking up before my alarm went off. I went to my PAMF doc first and she could not find anything wrong with me. Six months later, I had changed insurance to Kaiser, so I went to see my old OBGYN to see if I had hormonal issues. She took a few blood tests and said I was perfectly healthy. Six months later, I could not take it any longer. I was super fatigued and my hair was falling out daily. I also would like to mention that I took my 5-​year-​old daughter to see Dr. Husbands for chronic constipation. I had taken her to see her PAMF Pediatrician who had recommended laxatives and prune juice which helped immediately but a child cannot take laxatives daily. This is the same doctor that had prescribed antibiotics on several occasions without recommending probiotics. I had been giving my daughter lactobacillus for a few months which helped but she still was not regular. When I brought her in, Dr. Husbands again listened very closely to her medical history. He realized that the antibiotics had wiped out her Bifida bacteria which is also a probiotic. We then supplemented with this strain and within three days she was regular. It is now four months later and she has daily soft poops. Who could ask for more? I was treated for GI issues with several medical doctors for almost a year and almost cause my life before I found Dr. Husbands through referral from a friend. I went to Dr. Husbands about three months ago desperate for some answers. I had a host of symptoms ranging from worsening moods, panic attacks, insomnia, re-​occurring sinus infections (I was sick with some sort of bronchial or sinus infection almost monthly) fatigue and just a general feeling of not being well. I had been to several doctors, undergone blood test after blood test and still no doctor could identify what was wrong with me. It’s hard for me to recommend Dr Husbands highly enough, he changed my life — seriously! Before I came to see him (I found him via an article he wrote on his blog about low stomach acid), I had been to 3 chiropractors, 2 acupuncturists, 3 GI doctors, 2 physicians, and NONE of them could tell me what was really going on with me. He’s also a super nice guy and is very responsive to emails.
I do have to say that his services do not come cheap, but can you put a price on your health? I don’t think so. He doesn’t take my insurance, but I’m told you can resubmit invoices to certain insurance companies so others may be able to get around this. And to be fair he’s very generous with his time and doesn’t charge me every single time we need to have a phone call or lenghty email which is awesome.
If you have an elusive illness that is stumping your doctor and specialists, you owe it yourself to see Dr Doug. Even if you’re not sick and just need some nutrional advice or chiropractic work, he’s the man!

I went to see Dr Husbands about a digestive issue. He stated he could solve my problem and the fee for a consultation and write up was $ 300. When you get to the office he gives you a contract that says for every 15 minutes extra there’s another $ 75.
I decided this was more about the money than patient treatment so I left. They called me en-​route to my house and the «Dr» said I can give you a $ 200 over the phone consultation and writeup and I said «let me think about it».
After I said yes let’s go. Dr Husbands came back and said «I’m going to give a final review and see if I can realistically provide you with valuable, likely successful recommendations within your budget for a fair exchange of time I’ll be putting in.»
So clearly, this is ALL about the money and since he didn’t see me as an open wallet he pushed me to the curb and just told me to go back to my original GI Dr.
Buyer beware, this one is out for one thing and one thing only.

Such an amazing doctor. He has changed my perspective on my life.
What was my problem? Everything.
Yes, eating out, drinking too much, and so on… can all take their toll. Also, keeping up with this insane fast pace of «living the good life» in the Bay Area can do the same. Maybe some people thrive in this environment? I don’t think it’s for me… I am meant to be in the tropical regions of this world, the closer to the equator, the better. Easy does it. slow your roll, hasta mañana, what ever way you want to put it.
All that to the side, I’m going to be here for a while (at least a couple more years) and having the ability to keep moving on, at an optimal level has a certain level of priority. I decided to get some help from the closest, most reputable holistic health doctor around, Dr. Husbands.
He is a functional medicine doctor who focused on getting to the root of the problem rather then using other resources and props (i.e. pharmaceutical drugs) to temporarily aid a situation. He has helped me see a completely different perspective of how I should approach my life through testing my hormone levels, DHEA and so on. He has managed to analyze my eating habits and exercise routine, improving it with some sound advice. He has an amazing way of describing all the science through analogies that any average non-​medical practitioner could understand. He is very knowledgeable and sincerely concerned with his patients’ well-​being.
Whether it be to lose weight, sleep better, gain more muscle or even have more energy, there is always room for improvement in our lives. If you are into finding the root of the problem, as well as a solution, then a holistic, functional approach with Dr. Husbands is definitely the smart route to take.

Went to see Dr. Husbands for help with a complex problem of my husband’s. Given that he is a functional medicine specialist, we were hoping for more tests. He did do one that uncovered something that was helpful, but that was it.
The advice that he gave was generally good, but because it seemed to be general (i.e. same thing he tells everyone) instead of specific to my husband’s situation, it was not good at convincing him to make changes. Also my husband is a typical engineer guy and needs data and explanations, and we felt that Dr. Husbands was a bit short on that, so never was able to establish quite the rapport that we needed.

Dr. Husbands is a real blessing! I came to him with a bunch of hormonal problems (not knowing it). Traditional medicine just offered pain killers and not to mention surgery. I had endometriosis and had a large cyst removed about 5 yrs ago. A recent ultra-​sound showed the return of the cyst and so that is when I decided to try Dr. Husbands.

I was referred to Dr. Husbands up in San Carlos near Redwood City, by two of my friends that were his clients. According to them both he is an excellent chiropractor but after a consultation with him myself i understand that he is far more than just a chiropractor. He is an expert in functional medicine and in nutritional medicine.
I have struggled with vitiligo for several years and the methods that have been proposed to me by a variety of dermatologists in palo alto and menlo park, including one that teaches at Stanford University, were incomplete and harmful over the long term. One Dr. even suggested that as a long term strategy I use sunless tanning creams.
Dr. Husbands was more confident that the condition could be managed through other, natural means. While I live in Mountain View, I decided to work with Dr Husbands. I don’t fully understand all the medicine behind it but his plan did not include any harmful creams or steroids, or UV light treatments but was focused rather on assisting the body in healing itself. I have started to implement his nutritional plan and am confidant that I will be much healthier as a result.
