Put new arms on my son’s clock. Good service at a fair price

Wow! Totally impressed with the house call by Christian & Rob today! On time, Knew what they’re doing and background info of my grandfather clock.

GREAT SERVICE provided in our hone and in the store. The first service call was in our home to address our original concern and a second service call to repair something unrelated found during the original service call, all without exceeding their, original repair estimate is worth mentioning to my friends and here on Unilocal.In this day and age there are so many businesses that would not have done what they did without charging for the second service call, not to mention the follow-​up call a week after the first service call. I recently retired from the service industry and I was impressed with the level of service, knowledge, and professionalism Clocksmith provided. I am so glad I chose them over their competitor in San Mateo (Peninsula Clock Shop who scared me with their estimate). It’s no wonder Clocksmith has been in business for 48 years and have a 4 ½ star rating. Believe me, they should have a 5+ star rating. No doubt they will be in business for another 48 years.

My mother’s clock hands kept getting stuck together and the clock would stop. The gentleman who helped me was so nice. He fixed it while I waited and did not charge me! I can’t remember if he said he’s had the business for 39 or 49 years. He sure provided wonderful customer service.

If I could give no stars I would. Fred Bausch is an ass. If you don’t like people do not go into business. He took months to fix my clock and did not even bother to tell me. A good business owner would have told me as soon as I walked in that they were behind and it would take months to fix my mantle clock. I could have gone on you tube and learned how to fix it myself in the amount of time it took him to figure out how to do his job. I was very polite and waited several weeks before even calling to check. I was told at this point that they were slightly behind. Again I waited several more weeks until I couldn’t take it anymore. When I went in to confront Fred in person he was rude and yelled at me when I asked why it took so long. He told me he works 7 days a week! Bullshit because if you were working 7 days a week then you wouldn’t be be 3 years behind and you could get things done. Needless to say I will never ever ever be back. Please save yourself months and months of waiting and take your clock to Mohr clocks in Los altos. The customer service is so much better and they fixed my pocket watch in 2 days!

Do not, I repeat DO NOT take your clock here if you care anything about it. This family lies and they do not have a good reputation in the clock industry. I was told by Penny I needed my grandfather clock serviced as it wasn’t keeping time at 100%. She quoted me a price of $ 1300 and then said it would be weeks before they could pick it up. They finally came to get it and thank goodness I had enough sense to take pictures of it. I didn’t hear from them for months so called and was told penny had broken her hip and no one had touched the clock. I never was informed of anything and so now the husband (Fred) said they never had any intention of fixing my clock as it was not worth the repair. He said Penny didn’t have the heart to tell me this so she just took the clock in. (Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous??)
I asked to have my clock back then and Fred said now it didn’t run at all since they sat it in a room for 4 months. I told him it had better work as it did when they picked it up. They finally returned it after constant emails from me and there is a huge blemish on the brass now that was not there before they took it. They said it was, and when I told Fred I took pictures of the clock the day he picked it up, he then said, «oh, my nephew Christian, doesn’t have a lot of common sense so he didn’t hang the weight the correct way, the blemish was always on the BACK of the weight», (this was never mentioned until I said I had pictures of the clock the day it left my home)
Needless to say, I have talked with other reputable clock dealers in the Bay Area who say unfortunately these people are like this and have done this to quite a few others who end up coming to another dealer to correct things they have destroyed. I have enough documentation and proof thank goodness to take them to court so hopefully they won’t be able to keep doing this to others.
Do your research, go to someone reputable and honest, you won’t be sorry.

Forewarned that it might take a while, I said I was willing to wait. However, 11, yes, eleven, months to fix my clock was ridiculous. They claimed they were back-​logged. But there was never anyone in the place when I was there. How often do people get their antique clocks fixed??? The clock was stuck, overwound? They did manage to get it running after an inquiry at 9.5 months, telling me it would be another 5 – 6 weeks. They valued my clock at @ $ 350.00 and then charged me $ 495.00 to repair it which was $ 75.00 higher than the original quote. Knowledgable and pleasant explanation about how to keep the clock running, but way, way over priced for the work done and the time it took. I felt like I was taken advantage of.

It took a while but I guess I’m lucky considering they are booked 2 years in advance. The staff is extremely knowledgable. I was very impressed. They cleaned my 1886 mantle clock and I could not be happier with their work. The clock keeps time again and sounds great. These people know their business.

Amazing service. I bought a grandfather clock on craigslist. It wasn’t working. For less than a hundred dollars Clocksmith made a house call and two people serviced and set the clock.
I figured it would cost more. I really like how enthusiastic these 2 are about their trade and how they took the time to explain how things work. I’ve dealt with other clock shops on the Peninsula. These are the best – hands down!

My parents inherited my father’s grandparents grandfather clock back in the late 1970’s. Unfortunately, the clock fell over during the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.
Although, my parents had the clock «repaired» it never ran again and the wood work of the casing was badly damaged. In the summer of 2011 my mother told me that if I wanted the clock and was willing to try to get it running again I could have it. After much research I settled on The Clocksmiths… and I’m so happy I did. Penny and Rob could not have been nicer and more encouraging. The clock had not run in over 20 years, so I didn’t want to get my hopes up. They delivered the clock to me two days before Christmas (as promised) and I can honestly say that I have never seen this clock look or sound this good. It literally brought tears to my eyes! My only regret is that my father is not around to see it. He would be thrilled!!!

We got a large (battery-​operated) clock about a year ago and a few months back the hands stopped turning. Jen pulled the birthday card and asked me to get it fixed it as a gift to her. I wasn’t really looking forward to lugging the thing around or getting someone to come over to look at it, but then I realized that the clock face came off pretty easily. I looked on Unilocal and found Clocksmith was pretty much right down the street from us (It doesn’t get more local or niche than this).
I walked in and two ladies took a look at the clock while I wandered around the store, mesmerized by all of the pendulums and overwhelmed by all of the ticking. They were able to replace the movement, and a few days later the clock was as good as new. And that’s the story of how I didn’t have to sleep on the couch on Jen’s birthday.

I have my mother’s old clock– an electric style Westminster that drove me crazy hearing every night while I grew up. Now that she’s gone, I thought the sound of it might be less annoying– but the wiring had been pieced together with some terrible tape work and I was afraid to use it, even though she had kept it running day and night. The people at Clocksmith let me know that there was no way to replace the motor once it failed and that it would likely happen sooner rather than later. They were very kind in explaining the issue and offering the possibility of a quartz movement. When I asked if they could just replace the cord, one of the women immediately grabbed a testing wire and asked my permission to cut the old wire. She tested it and the clock came to life– a bit wobbly but still going. She then took it into the back to fix the wire properly for me and refused to let me pay for the work as they had no way to fix the internals once they finally give out.
This place is amazing, they’re knowledgable, kind and friendly and have given me back a bit of my childhood if only for a limited time. I wouldn’t hesitate to take something else there, even if it’s miles out of my way.

When my grandma passed away, I inherited the grandfather’s clock she received as a retirement gift from the phone company she worked at for all those years. I’m not sure when, but at some point she removed all the weights and essentially stopped the clock. This clock has been moved from Montana to Seattle, and ultimately to its new home in our living room here in Palo Alto. I wanted to get the clock back to working condition, so I hopped on Google and found Penny and Fred.
They are amazing. It took a little while for us to finally touch base, they are pretty busy and I got sick for about a week, but they were able to come to my house and repair it right here in my living room. The cost is extremely reasonable in my mind (I thought I would be spending hundreds). They gave me some lessons on how and when to wind the clock, and told me they would call in a week to see how the clock is and told me I can drop by at that time to pay them.
It’s amazing to find small town personal service in such a populous area as the Bay Area.

The kind, wise, and amazingly expert owner (I think) of this venerable shop was able to rescue a valuable, one of a kind, hand-​made artsy clock that is very dear to me. The clock was physically damaged by a cleaning person and was no longer keeping time.
Against all odds (including finding the only remaining part on the planet, apparently), and after gobs of hours, he was able to repair the damage, and indeed fixed other issues to prevent future damage. This sort of expertise is incredibly valuable, and I insisted on paying another $ 30 on top of the $ 70 he charged. Frankly, writing this now it feels like I should’ve paid some more…
Anyway, the short of it is: if you have an intractable clock problem, this is the place to go.
