Bayshore Supply and Lights

My electrician suggested I stop by to pick up a timer switch for my porch lights. He said, «tell them you don’t have a neutral,» meaning, I don’t have a neutral wire in my box. So I stopped by on a Saturday. Two people sitting at desks, typing away, can’t be bothered to even greet customers. So I asked the guy at the desk for help. He came back with a timer switch that needs a neutral wire. Not what I wanted. He went into an office and asked another guy if they make timer switches without the white wire. That guy said no such thing exists. So the first guy says, «can’t you just ask your electrician to install a neutral?» Well, there are in fact timer switches without a neutral by Intermatic; I came home, found it on amazon, and it’s being delivered to me before 9pm same day. The staff at Bayshore just didn’t want to be bothered with helping a customer with a small-​ish request. Why bother going to this place for anything when I can just order it online.

I went to Bayshore for lighting for a major remodel with some trepidation based on prior reviews.
My experience could not have been better.
Richard was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about LED lighting and took a fair amount of time explaining things.
Michael was a fountain of knowledge regarding radio Ra (Lutron automation). I merely mentioned this in passing and Michael appeared as if magic. Not only knowledgeable, but pleasant and patient.
They both saved me MANY hours of research as what I want to do is not your run of the mill lighting, and I wanted to do this myself rather than pay for a fancy installer.
The cherry on top was their prices actually BEAT the nearby big box, as well as a nearby wholesale electrical supplier. What? Couldn’t believe it. Service AND the best price.
What a country

Horrible horrible customer service. Not willing to help at all. I recommend going to The Lighthouse on El Camino instead as they have their customer service down and are willing to answer your questions. Bayshore clearly doesn’t want to work with consumers who need assistance.

Walked around the showroom for 15 minutes. Was not even greeted, much less asked if I needed help. Ignored by multiple employees. No way will I give them my business as they obviously don’t need or want it. Was prepared to spend up to 3K on a chandelier. Never mind.

So I went in and saw some lights, sales person was helpful and interested. I called back a week later to order the lights, left a message, no reply, again, left a voicemail, no call back, finally called and talked to the sales person, they were busy but took the info and would call back, never did. I live in SF and ended up being in a lighting store in Reno, same products I wanted locally, ordered and shipped to my home. They cared and wanted my $ 500. Terrible service! Service sells and you lost a customer for life and I’m NOT done remodeling!

Was just there to pick up some parts from the back, and also to browse their lighting on the front.
PARTS
I called on the phone looking for a specific part. The call was answered on the first ring, and they knew exactly what I was talking about. (This isn’t universally true locally…) When I went in, it was clear where to go and what to do. I didn’t have to wait that long.
They also sell common plumbing parts here. Note that they don’t have as broad a solution as a plumbing specialty house would, when it comes to things like adapters. But the basics are there, and they carry some good lines.
LIGHTING
I browsed their selection and liked that they carry some modern lines. It looks like they’ve updated parts of the showroom. I was interested in lighting design help, and the gentleman encouraged me to bring my plans in, and that he’d be able to make suggestions, which sounds good.
I was hoping they’d have a service like the folks at the lighting place in Mountain View, where for a fee they come out to your place in the evening with lights to see how you like them, but looks like they don’t do that yet. Maybe in future.
PLUMBING
They have a pretty decent plumbing showroom with nice Hansgrohe displays.

Don’t waste your time going here. The staff are the worst! I was there for 20mins before someone showed some interest. Then the guy started by pointing to some lights and said here are the cheap lights like I shouldn’t bother about knowing the full range of prices. His manner was rude, actually quite crude and disrespectful. He turned on the lights that were «cheap: and walked away. I walked out finally feeling awful.

Sales staff are rude and incompetent.
I asked for DC transformer, staff handed me transformer. I ask for wiring diagram as there was not one in box. Sales guy said «hire an electrician». When I tested transformer at home, discovered was AC transformer and not DC When I returned transformer, same sales guy said «can you not read». And there is not a manager to give review.

I just left after 10 minutes of walking around without anyone asking for any help. They didn’t even acknowledge me as I walked in.
I get the feeling this is a place you’d want to go to if you are an interior designer have a major contract. Eg A hotel and I need 100 fixtures, or I’m replacing every single light in a 3,000 sf home. I don’t think they are after selling one or two lights to individuals.
You can probably get away picking something yourself, but you’d have to know exactly what you want.

My experience with Bayshore Electric was horrifying. I dealt with a salesperson who made the presumption that we are all lighting experts. If you asked a question, it was answered with scathing indifference at your obvious stupidity. I left this business annoyed that I allowed myself to be put into such a negative situation. Luckily I found a nearby business that explained everything clearly and respectfully, and with cheaper prices. I never write reviews, but my experience at Bayshore Electric drove me to it… be warned !!

I had photocell issue (did not work) and took the light back, Danny was wonderful and patient in helping me and testing the lights, teaching me how to install, etc.
Highly recommend Danny if you need help on installation issues and testing lights.

This place is the definition of «OK». They have good pricing on some items and horrible pricing on others. They are knowledgeable and at the same time ignorant of some types of lighting. If you know what type of lighting/​fixture you need and you’ve priced it out, bayshore is a good place to check out. If you are still on the fence on lighting and have no idea about pricing, its best to try somewhere else. Also important to note, they have a very strict return policy. Best case scenario they let you return your item, but with a 20−30% restocking charge.

Called 3X and put on hold, on hold, on hold… nobody home
Judging by the other 1 star reviews, won’t waste my time with this place.

I would give this store a «ZERO STAR» rating if it was an option with Unilocal!
DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!! IT IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF, ESPECIALLY IF YOU NEED TO RETURN SOMETHING.
I purchased a ¾ HP disposal and later found out I needed a 1 HP disposal. Since the store was closed by the time the plumbers got to the disposal installation, I had to purchase another disposal at Home Depot which was open until 9:00 pm. (BTW — Home Depot prices are CHEAPER than this store, even with their «supposed discount».)
I returned the ¾ HP disposal to Bayshore Supply & Lights and they charged me 3% for returning something purchased using a credit card, and — this is the really unbelievably obnoxious part — they wanted to charge me a 25% «restocking charge», even though the disposal was not special order and they already had it on their shelf. It was completely new and unopened. PLUS, the way they calculated the restocking charge, they included the SALES TAX as part of the restocking fee!!! I complained to the manager and they reduced the restocking fee to 10%, but I still think that was completely unreasonable for a stock item.
If you are not a contractor, they treat you VERY RUDELY, so I advise to STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE!!!
In addition, this store is a complete mess, dirty and dusty, and the lighting department is dark and dreary.

This place is dark and damp and the people are the most unfriendly, unresponsive I have seen before. It is best suited for contractors who need electrical parts. Forget the lighting department, their salesmanship and customer service is the worst I have ever seen. If you have part numbers and know exactly what you need, then you might have a chance, but pay close attention to the previous reviews on returns or add on orders. I believe there are some serious cultural differences with management.

Terrible customer service because you need to go there knowing EXACTLY what you want. They will not let you leave a deposit and take something home to see how it looks in your house… or buy something and return it if the colors don’t match your home.
I went to Lamps Plus and they were more than willing to let me take lights home, see how it looked and I could return them with no cost to me if they didn’t look good.
You are expected to find exactly what looks good in your home from it hanging in their cluttered store.

I’m going to have to agree with the general sentiment of this establishment. For a lighting store, it really is dark and depressing. Apparently they’ve undergone new management recently, and it wasn’t much to begin with — now it’s even worse.
I checked out a bunch of different places and found that Bayshore Supply and Lights was really only, at the most, $ 20 cheaper than what I found at other places. What’s worse? The customer service is incredibly lacking. I’d rather pay more and be greeted and helped without feeling like I ruined this person’s day, than pay less and receive that kind of treatment. Not only that, but the organization of this place is ridiculous — stuff everywhere. When I say «organization,» I use that term loosely because there is no way you could describe it as that, in any sense of the word.
Because I have not (and will not) order anything from here, I can’t comment on the installation or delivery part. If you’re cheap and enjoy being treated badly, this would make a fine dominatrix dungeon… I mean lighting supply and plumbing store.

Ugghhh, this place is terrible. They have good products, but the staff is so unhelpful. Also, it’s a lighting store but it’s SO dark and depressing inside. I was there last week looking at fixtures for almost an hour and I was ready to buy. Not a single employee offered to help me and when I finally asked I got attitude. I took my business elsewhere.

The service representatives for the electrical department are great to work with and have superior specialty knowledge of the products. I’ve had an awesome experience working with Ricardo as well. The cashier ladies are very professional and courteous. They have good pricing and I highly recommend going their for all of your electrical needs.

This place is conveniently located off 101 with plenty of parking. It sells electrical, plumbing, and various fixtures. The showroom is a mess and u need to sort it out. It’s hard to see items when everything is mixed together and there is no rhyme or reason to their madness. As a result, you have to talk to the people seated near the entryway.
The electrical guys are pleasant enough, but the woman named May in charge of plumbing is not helpful. You can call her and leave messages and send her emails, but at the end she won’t be contacting you, as a result, I decided to spend my money elsewhere.
I suppose if you want bad service (from her) and not get your questions answered, then this is the place for you. For your electrical needs, the guys are better than her by light years.
Price wise, they are about the same as others. Sometimes, I found it cheaper to buy the items on Ebay.
