Hertz Rent A Car

I usually rent a car from SFO with Budget whenever I fly to this area so I tried to rent here at Hertz outside of the airport just to save some money from airport fees etc. I’m also going with Hertz for the first time because United Airlines has an incentive with them with miles. I was very surprised with this branch because this used to be Enterprise Rental Car. I used to live in this area so I was ecstatic to find out there’s a Hertz right next to Tanforan. When I entered the office, it was a super small space but it was ok overall. The branch is only manned by one employee at the desk and the rest are outside cleaning the cars and maintaining them. This location was pretty good despite the very small space. I rented an economy car and was offered either a Chevrolet Spark or a Mitsubishi Mirage. I went with the Mitsubishi Mirage since it had 37MPG? Not sure about the number, but all i remember is how not often I had to get gas for my two-​week time there in the Bay Area driving around. It was awesome for the price! The radio was kind of turning on and off by itself lol but that was no biggy. The price was right as I got a good price on it so no complaints there. Will rent here again.

I’ve rented cars at countless locations, and I’m spoiled to have this one near my office. Friendly customer service, easy in-​and-​out, and I always get what I need from them (including a ride home!) This is simply my favorite Hertz (and any rental car) location. Any poor reviews are complaints about the car rental business in general, not this location.

This place is absolutely horrendous. I was forced to rent a car through them while Melody Toyota did work on my car. It was a ONE day rental and I ended up being charged for FOUR days though I returned the car the day I got it. I called and asked about the charge and was told that it would be for just one day. This was back in October. I continued to call multiple times because despite promises that they were working on it i NEVER received a refund. To this point I have NOT gotten a refund. These people will take your money & then give you a runaround. Absolutely terrible.

How this company is still even in existence is beyond me. I rented a car for two days to drive up to Lake Tahoe and upon getting the car I specifically asked if I were to drop it off at another location in Lake Tahoe would I be charged extra. The front desk told me I would be charged $ 40. The weather conditions were too dangerous for me to drive the car back to San Bruno so when I arrive to the hertz location in north truckee they tell me I will be charged $ 320. I then tell front desk that is not what I was told and that it is not my fault I was told false information. She then told me to contact the San Bruno location and when I did I told them my situation and the man I spoke with told me he couldn’t do anything, when I asked for a manager he said that they had stepped out and he does not have the means to contact a manager because he does not normally work there. I then was directed to call customer service and that is when I lost my shit. I talked to 7 different people in 2 hours was hung up on twice when waiting to speak to a manager, transferred to emergency roadside assistant for what I have no clue. Then spoke with someone named Claudia who told me she can’t allow me to speak to a manager until I pay the $ 320. She then transferred me to someone named Ray and at fist he seemed understanding and then told me after his calculations it would be $ 601.00 to return the car in Lake Tahoe. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU QUOTE ME $ 281 more than what the front desk just told me. I said I need to speak to a manger asap and he then transferred me to someone else who was not a manger she told me to leave a call back number because all the managers were on the phone with someone else. I leave my number and immediately call back with another friends phone it took me 10 minutes to get on the phone with a supervisor. So I spent two hours on the phone because hertz wanted to play games waste my time and give me the run around. It’s been 2 days and I still haven’t received that call back from «a manager» and the supervisor told me to just leave the car and they will keep the contract open I have yet to hear from her either. If I don’t receive a call back soon I will be reporting them to the better business bureau.

Rented a car for a week, upon picking up the vehicle I noticed broken automotive glass in the vehicle. They brought out a vacuum and got most of it over the next 15 minutes, but definitely left behind some (I discovered later on my trip). When I got home, I noticed that the amount they charged me was for $ 1200, not $ 300 (as per reservation). Called them back and asked for them to explain, which they said was a mistake and would adjust. So things happen and we are human, but that is not why they get 1 star.
When I returned the car at the end of my trip I entered the location and 1 person was inside talking on the phone with a customer. Another person entered (ended up being asst. manager) who then flagged me over. She was not very nice, did not say anything like «hello», «how are you?» or even «how was your rental?» just gestured for my paperwork and started checking in my vehicle. I mentioned to her that my rental was disappointing due to the problems and even brought in some garbage and pieces of broken glass that I had found after they re-​cleaned the vehicle. Her response was nothing more than a shrug and said — «we will work on our cleaning process in the future.» Usually, people at least pretend to empathize or care about the customer. Seemed like I was an annoyance just existing as a customer.
I go to Hertz for customer service and quality cars. Unfortunately, they didn’t deliver on either. Guess time to go down the street to Enterprise, who at least smile and pretend to be happy to see me!

Very friendly service. Nice new car. They even gave me a ride to bart after I dropped the car off. I will rent from this location again and again.

DO NOT PREPAY FOR GAS
They forgot to mention that for any gas you don’t use, you lose it. I should have asked more questions but I feel I shouldn’t need to and the employees should fully disclose everything. Now I have a bad experience and felt that this review is necessary to make sure anyone that goes here knows this.
I’ve managed retail stores in the past and all my employees sold with integrity.
Oh yeah and about the insurance coverage. Check in with your insurance company if rentals are covered. Most likely it is. Just my recommendation.

I’m so used to going to other rental companies where I just flow in and out the door smoothly.
When you walk into this place you feel a certain vibe that you’re coming in for «questioning.» I guess they want to know who they are renting to, how far you are going (although it’s unlimited miles), and yeah, they definitely try to persuade you with the Upsells, like someone else here on Unilocal commented.
When you go rent a car it should be a happy, feel good experience… not otherwise.
I like supporting and doing business with places that have stellar customer service… unfortunately this place is not quite there yet. I don’t blame the workers, management should provide the right training — and something tells me that Hertz is lacking in that department.
The car was fine. Not the car I wanted but it was a pleasant car.

Beware!!!
If you are in accident and are directed to rent your car from Hertz BEWARE. If you have full coverage auto insurance you should know that your coverage also includes car rental so there is no need to buy the liability protection that they will offer you. They might insist and demand and bully you into buying it but don’t, unless you want to be a victim of their manipulative tactics to get you to spend more than you have to while your vehicle is being repaired.
You’ve been warned…

Good customer service, small place though. Parking is a pain but overall it was a good rental experience.
