The Edison Experiment

This place is a little hard to find but its in the same shopping center as WildFish. The décor doesn’t make sense but I don’t go to bars for the décor haha. They have one giant television and have sports playing. There is plenty of seating, it’s nice and dark in there. I love the music they were playing, it was a mix of Black Keys and Passion Pit. Ok so the drinks! They were boozy and made quickly! The bartender who took out drink order was very knowledgable and friendly. I had the Bourbon Peach Smash and it was fantastic, I like to taste my bourbon so this drink is not for you if like super fruity drinks, it has just the right amount of sweet. My husband ordered a White Russian, and he said it was great, creamy but not too thick.
I recommend this place for a date night or happy hour after work.

Nice bar, sophisticated, but still comfortable. I really enjoyed my specialty cocktail and so did the hubs. At 8:30 on a Friday night it was pretty sparse, but we kinda liked that as we just want some time to talk and relax.

Found this place on accident after dinner at Cover 3 which happens to be in the same shopping center. Went here about around 10:30 pm Saturday night and it was pretty dead in there. We stayed until 1:30 and the crowd size didn’t really change. All the couches were pretty much taken up so we decided to sit at the bar.
The ambiance is sophisticated with a speakeasy vibe. To be expected with these type of bars, their specialty is in making classic cocktails with an updated twist. All of the bartenders are very friendly, but expect to wait a long time for your drink order. The cocktails do take a little time to make, but we were waiting 15 minutes for a bartender to take our order and another 10 minutes to wait for our drinks to be made. The price of the cocktails average about $ 10.
Apparently Friday night is the best night to go, because there is a live band plays and it gets more packed. We will try this place out again on a Friday night, because Saturday night was quiet.
Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for a new cocktail bar in the 1604/​Huebner area.

Maybe I had a poor bartender who didn’t know what they were doing — but this bar served me the worst Old Fashion I can think of in recent memory. Moved on to a house infusion on the rocks after that, it wasn’t too bad, if it weren’t for the price. When I think of infusions, I think of a relatively affordable house drink that’s both cheap to make and low labor, yet it cost the same as a decent made cocktail. Regardless, I’m stuck on the fact that they performed so poorly on this keystone of a bartender’s skill… Then again, if you’re looking for a good cocktail bar this far north, you’re on the wrong side of town…

Wicked cool! Great little dark, underground speakeasy boutique type bar. Incredible music selection including Adele and Michael Buble. Great drink selection, craft cocktails, Irish coffees (very fancy coffee machine behind the bar) too! Yum! Huge bottled beer selection too! They also serve red bull which I don’t see often in bars (could be just me). We had great service even though the bar was busy. Small place, but very cozy with vintage couches to sit and relax throughout. Bathrooms were clean and smelled good! Always a bonus! Can’t wait to go back!

Great atmosphere, and the live music was an excellent touch! The bartender was great and everytime I see him it’s evident soo much goes into every drink. whether it’s an old fashion, Moscow mule, or the infused shots. These drinks are the real deal, now to get a little crowd into this bad boy. It truly does not get enough recognition!

The drinks were very good (a little whiskey/​bourbon heavy, wished there were more gin options). The bar tenders seemed very knowledgable and were willing to let us taste the liquors we asked about. They seemed very proud of their crafted cocktails and was very satisfied.
My issue was the atmosphere. It just didn’t seem «authentic». I would have justified spending the amount of money if the place had more historical pieces, or themed more appropriately to «Edison» theme.

Finally, some good night life in Stone Oak! We hit 4 bars before this of various caliber… almost all were fairly desolate for a late Friday night and meh [aka get one drink and move on…]. Edison’s Experiment was def our fav!
The inside is very lounge, modern, and comfortable. Loved the art!
There were two guys playing acoustic guitar and those honkies had soul! Fun, different entertainment and we could all still talk/​hear one another.
The specialty and regular drinks were pretty tasty and acceptably priced.
I’ll def return if I’m in the area!

Freaking Fantastic! Do not over look this small quaint bar. Located behind Wildfish, it has dark windows and didn’t appear open at first glance. The bartender is top of line mixologist! This is exactly what Stone Oak needed.

My friends and I chose to go to this bar since we’ve never heard of it. It was nice and relaxing. LOVED THE LIVE BAND! AMAZING!!! (Kind of jazz and electric mixture) My drink that was straight off the menu was nasty! Didn’t like it at allllll. In fact my friend’s drink was nasty too. And it came in some hobbit mug cup. It wasn’t cute at all. Nor the taste. So we just started to order regular drinks we usually get. Volka. I got a Long Island and a shot of tequila;) very laid back spot and no cover to get in. And if you’re bringing a lot of people you can call in advance and RSVP a section. Smooches

Perfect place to be on the weekends! Ask to try their Banana infused Jamison! It’s freakin amazing!

They came through for our last minute Bday party after Silo Cuisine cancelled our reservations for a bigger party. They even allows us to bring in apps from an outside restaurant! Happy Hour pricing for the entire party! Best service ever!!!

Pickins is slim on this side of town for the youngish who aren’t into sports bars and The Edison Experiment is trying to fill the craft cocktail, speak-​easy gap. Maybe that’s not the best description for The Edison Experiment. don’t go in there thinking it’s going to be as dedicated to the speak-​easy vibe as say, The Last Word. There was top 40 playing and a few TV’s tuned to sports which isn’t what I expected when I was greeted by the luxe bar and chandeliers.
Anyway, identity crisis aside, The Edison Experiments drinks were on point. Best Singapore Sling I’ve had yet and their Absinthe cocktail was actually pretty enjoyable considering Absinthe tastes like poor kids candy. The service was ok if a little slow for three bartenders working a crowd of maybe 12.
Please youngish, non-​dbag Unilocalers, get to The Edison Experiment before those Stone Oak-​ers geezer it up.

Sexy, sultry, secret little bar on the north side. I had the Y.L.S. which was spicy and sweet, the perfect cocktail. This is an ideal place to take a date or just have a night cap after dinner. I will definitely be back

While out and about on a typical Friday night, my friends and I were looking for something new and exciting. Which is super hard sometimes when you’re trying to go bar hopping within the 1604 area.
I had heard through the grapevine about this place and wanted to make it a point to check it out.
Upon driving into the shopping center it took a moment to find this place as it was nicely nestled towards the back. With the ample amount of parking we were able to park right in front.
As I was walking into the bar I genuinely thought I had time travelled through some secret portal and had to gather my senses back together. This is no top 40s, electronic music joint, no my sir, this was old school jazz music with an eclectic vibe. The band was amazing and really created the atmosphere for Edison Experiment (EE). As they were tucked away neatly towards a back corner, there was a makeshift dance area in-​between some tables and it was cute to see some couples dancing away.
Amongst the dim lighting and low lighted chandeliers, we were able to find some empty spots at the bar. My favorite place to sit in any bar to be honest. We were promptly greeted by the wait staff and told our drink orders would be taken asap.
EE is all about the craft cocktails, i promise no Meghan Trainor reference, so this is the chance to try a Moscow Mule, Sazerac, or my favorite Mint Julep. The bartenders/​mixologists here know their stuff so don’t be afraid to be creative and send them a request. They do an awesome job and know what they’re doing. The drink prices for any place that focuses on craft cocktails are average about $ 8-​$ 10.
They also serve a small selection of food items in case you’re having «hangry» attacks.
If you’re wanting to change up your go-​to spots then come to Edison Experiment. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

I actually used to come here when it first opened and was known as Sinatra’s. The difference now is the name.
It’s like walking into a 1920’s style nouveau riche bar, which is actually pretty awesome. The wooden bar, dim lighting, mirrored backdrop where the bottles are and even the photos on the wall are all conducive to a great date night somewhere a bit out of the ordinary. Yes, the drinks are expensive even during happy hour but it’s a mixology bar which means you’re getting a hand crafted, well thought out and perfectly executed cocktail.
The music is great, not too loud but just perfect enough to enjoy yourself without having to yell like a baffoon at the person two feet away from you. The only time it’s been a little loud is when they have live music but even then it’s usually a small jazz-​type group and it’s not overbearing.
They also have spa water, water with cucumbers in it. It’s delicious, seriously how many bars do you go to where you actually enjoy the water? (Anyone remember the move The Other Guys where Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell keep fan girling over the cucumber water?)
Meat and cheese board is a must try even though its also a tad pricey. When was the last time you tried straight up honey comb? It’s on there too!
Loved it and will be back.

I came here on a Monday from 5 – 8 PM with a friend who lives in the area. The place was pretty empty, with only 7 – 8 patrons around at any given time. The bar is tucked in pretty well in a snazzy apartment complex — there’s plenty of parking that’s open to the public, and you’ll walk by a really gorgeous and rather sizable water fountain. There’s a patio-​type space outside — I don’t know if they serve drinks out there, but it’s a good place to sit for a cigarette break.
In any case, as I walked up, I could tell from the door that the bar was going to have a theme — the door was positioned in a half-​circle, all wood, which gave me the impression of a hobbit den (if I’m being perfectly honest). Inside, the lights were bare bulbs hanging down from the ceiling, and the walls were covered with framed, old-​fashioned pictures. Very cute.
Happy Hour is every day from 5 – 9 PM, which really can’t be argued with. I ordered 3 drinks entirely off of the Happy Hour list — each drink was $ 9 and easily the least expensive cocktails served. All three were creative, very well-​made, and delicious to boot. The bartender, a blonde woman whose name I’ve forgotten, was a sweetheart.
I don’t believe the bar is wheelchair accessible, as there were a number of stairs to get to its landing.
I’d visit again if I were in the area, but it’s far enough from central San Antonio that I’d not likely do so otherwise.
