I had surgery here on Tuesday. The nurses that helped me were all very nice and professional. I felt like I was in capable hands and they were all very attentive and kind. I was very nervous about this surgery(completely elective) but once I was in their company, and the IV’s got started I felt better. ODD? yes but completely true. I also saw a professional athlete here and that made me think wow! if its good enough for a celebrity athlete, then its good enough for me. I can’t say who it was in compliance with HIPAA and out of respect for their privacy but it honestly made me feel more at ease. I came out of surg, woke up in PACU and again surrounded by wonderful and caring nurses. I would highly recommend this place. Also there is a café downstairs(the backside of the bldg. that faces Luby’s) and they had a chicken mole sandwhich… youknow you’re in San Antonio when the sandwhich isnt turkey, or ham, its chicken mole LOL. Loved that idea.

Surgery is never fun but the team at Texas Center for Athletes are making things easy and simple for my husband. He tore his ACL a few weeks ago and we were referred to Dr. Nielsen. Our appointment was at 1:30, we arrived fifteen minutes early and were seen about five minutes later. The Dr was really nice and explained to us(in terms we could undertstand) the procedure. He also recommended my husband do physical therapy until the surgery date. Like other Unilocalers noted, the front desk staff at the Dr’s office are somewhat ditzy but they got the job done and were mostly polite. The physical therapist office is in the same building which is super convenient. The therapist name is Joseph Klotz, or Dr. McDreamy as I like to call him. Now I’m married and all but damn, sometimes I wish I was the one with the torn ACL… Anyway back to the review, Mr. Klotz sees his patients as soon as they walk through the doors and his receptionists are the sweetest, most professional ladies I’ve ever met. This being the first major incident we’ve ever experienced, they’ve walked us through the process with great detail and without rushing. One more note, these office waiting rooms are awesome. Comfy couches and wifi!

It’s another surgery factory. But the staff are very nice. In by 7 out by noon should be there slogan. Get there at 7, go into surgery, the doctor comes to the waiting room at 10 and tells you how it went, then you join your significant other at 11 until the are cognizant to get dressed and roll out. Gus in recovery was particularly nice.

My boyfriend broke his collarbone and we were referred to the Texas Center for Athletes. The individual doctors that he saw were fine and the surgeon and surgery staff were exceptional. The low rating comes from the fact that the front desk staff are un-apologetically incompetent. On almost every occasion we visit, I’ve observed my boyfriend standing in front of the counter while they chit chat and ignore him. A follow up appointment was scheduled for him on a day that their office was closed. I’ve rarely seen a single smile from the group. One time we got stuck in traffic and were late for an appointment and the guy behind the counter was downright nasty, complete with heavy sighs and eye rolls as if we had inconvenienced him. Please bear in mind that for numerous other appointments we were early and still had to wait for 20 – 50 minutes past our appointment time to see the doctor. And this may be a little nitpicky but they mispronounce his name every time we go. You’d think they would make a little note on the chart or something. If you have another option, I’d take it.
