Business Owner
Abbas Selgi knows everything about the violin – except how to play it. The owner of Terra Nova Violins, Selgi perfected the art of building and restoring violins and stringed instruments in his native Iran and now is a trusted expert for area musicians. He’s been at it for more than 30 years.
He found his career by chance as a young man in Iran. After he finished school, Selgi began an apprenticeship with his neighbor, a master in building and fixing musical instruments.
Under the guidance of his neighbor, Selgi learned the intricacies involved in carving and crafting guitars, violins and tars and setars, which are stringed instruments native to the Middle East. He soon started his own workshop and in 1997 followed family who had migrated to the United States and settled in San Antonio. After nearly a decade of working alongside his brother, in his own home workshop and later at an Austin violin shop, Selgi launched his own store with the help of a former business partner.
