Great place to pick up some wine for dinner or to take back to your room. The guy there helped us pick out something when we didn’t even know what we wanted. He was pretty knowledgeable about the different wines they carried, and opened the bottle for us to take back to our room. Also, if you’re drinking in the store, you can ask for a to-go cup!

Hard to find, but once found is a great spot. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful to find great local Texan beer or wine. Definitely worth the adventure. Additional plus, the drinks are able to be brought on the river walk and boat tours.

A Great place to stop after purchasing a ticket for the River tour. Unfortunately, they don’t carry any cider(much like most of Texas). But, the guy working that day was friendly and asked a few questions about the kind of wine I like. He suggested a local Riesling. They have a good selection of local wines and beers. Don’t forget to ask for a To Go cup to take with you on the the boat!

I hate not giving this little spot a better review, but it was just so small and out-of-the-way that I would’ve missed it entirely if I had been buying tickets for the local boat cruise. To set the mood, I was thirsty for beer and in the mood to drink local. It just happened that the signs around me were advertising that beer was able to be consumed on the tour boats. Well that just sounded terrific. So I stumbled into the tiny little shop, which two enthusiastic employees running left to right behind a small bar, hydrating the local patrons with local wines, and local knowledge. All I wanted was a cold brew, to which they accommodated me from a decent selection of bottles from a refrigerator. The kindly employee handed me a beer with a few quick jokes and facts about the locale of my drink. He was super nice. But the overall experience just needed some polish. The location was great, tucked away in a(literally) dark corner of a hallway, and the store was neither conducive to a warm drinking environment, or a large selection. They had their niche with local alcohol, but just need some time to build things up.

One of my favorite recreational activities in San Antonio is traveling to the hill country and going to wineries for wine tastings. However, there aren’t very many places within city limits that offer wine tastings, and much less at a reasonable price. This place offers 6 tastings of Texas wines for $ 6, they usually have at least 8 — 10 options at a time, and they switch out their selection on a regular basis which makes it worthwhile to visit on a regular basis. They collect wines from ALL over Texas, and some of the employees are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about Texas wines and you can tell they’re really passionate about it. They also sell wines by the bottles and have one of the largest selections of Texas wines around. Furthermore, they sell wines by the glass as well as a rotating Texas craft beer on draft(which is only $ 3 for happy hour, you can’t beat that in downtown), and you can even take your drinks to go. This is easily one of my favorite places on the RIverwalk. Many people don’t even realize it exists because it’s somewhat hidden in a hallway next to the Iron Cactus. They don’t even have any signs on the Riverwalk itself, so just look for the hallway with the sign for the Aztec Theater. The pourers aren’t pretentious whatsoever and most are actors as well. Next time you want to do a wine tasting, do something different on the Riverwalk, or learn more about wine in general, make sure to try A Taste of Texas Wine.

Until last night I have never had wine from Texas. I told the guy working what sort of wines I normally drink and he made sure to get me something similar. They have wine to go which is pretty rad because i found out soon after that you can walk around with a cocktail along the Riverwalk. I picked up two glasses of Malbec for my mother and I right before we did the touristy thing and got on the tour boat ride. If anything this place is awesome with wines ranging in all price ranges. Check them out!

Texas grows wine grapes? Yep. Quite a variety on their 400+ vineyards. They do it big in Texas, as we all know. I wandered about the River Walk and decided to go take a boat tour and happened upon A Taste of Texas Wine. It’s unfortunate that they tuck it away in the little arcade that it’s in, but I received a very thorough education about grapes grown in Texas and the wines they produce. Some of the reds can be a bit pricey for a wine region that isn’t so prominent(the two I liked were $ 27) but the lighter bodied reds were a nice diversion from my jammy, peppery Cali Cabs and Australian Shiraz choices. Definitely stop by and have a chat and pick up some libations for your cruise down the river.

We were able to get our wine to go and bring it on the Riverwalk cruise, so that was awesome. The guy was helpful and nice, but they don’t chill their white wine, and I just really prefer my white wine to be nice and cold, especially on a hot texas day.
