Delicious, greasy burgers on the South side! We both got the quarter pound cheeseburger with jalapenos, and onion rings. There wasn’t a lot of conversation during the meal because we were too busy devouring the awesomeness that is aTJ’s burger. Staff is friendly, food is out of this world, place is clean(restroom spotless!) and you get that cool neighborhood vibe. Love how they’ve totally redone the place. Been coming here occasionally for about the last 10 years but never thought to write a review. Note: Onion rings are awesome, but one order is a LOT for one person unless you’re starving. Hubby and I agreed we could have split an order between us and still have had plenty.

I grew up with these burgers! This has also become both of my daughter’s favorite burger place to come to on daddy-daughter date night! Burgers are delicious and the shakes are the icing on the cake.

Last night we went to go grab a couple of burgers from TJ’s. I have to say that the burgers were decent. To give you a point of reference, I absolutely LOVE Chris Madrid’s burgers. So, if you’re looking for a burger that measures up to Chris Madrid’s, this is not it. However, they do make a good burger. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the burgers are made to order… so no heat lamps here! I was a little disappointed with the fries. I like my fries firm and their fries were limp. I was able to pick out a few fries that were firm and they were delicious.

TJ’s has been around since I was a kid and still has the same amazing greasy juicy burger to this day. I highly recommend the onion rings. It’s a staple in my opinion. They also have great service and the food is always hot. You should definitly try it out if you’re in the area.

My second time trying TJ’s but this time I went inside to order. Upon walking in I felt as if I was walking into someone’s kitchen — the reason I felt this way was because the cashier knew nearly all the customers waiting on the front table, they were talking and shooting the breeze which made me feel a little like an outsider, regulars maybe? After ordering I witnessed the cashiers relative(perhaps a daughter?) walks in from the side door and straight behind the counter to talk. All of this family reunion small talk was making me a little uncomfortable… I’m used to professionalism, even in the best of family restaurants. The ordering area is very clean and looks plain, I think it would look better spruced up a bit with some signs, pictures or flowers. This is the second time I’ve had a little problem with the bun. Don’t get me wrong it is a tasty bun, but seems a little too moist or soggy, like the veggies were not properly drained. Other than that, burgers are awesome. I got the quarter pounder this time with fries. Those fries… do need work. They are just your regular standard fries. I do regret not getting onion rings instead… most customers eating inside were ordering rings. I’ll get those next time :)

Not too shabby at all. Had a burger and some chili for lunch. Good stuff all around. Wouldn’t mind some more outdoor tables, but what can you do. :-)

Burgers are a food of preference for me but this place beats every where I have been. Burgers are juicy, good size, not too messy, seasoned perfectly. And the chili chez fries are amazing as week! And now that they have made it bigger it’s even better be you can eat your food there!

I have been there many times and have always had great service and the burgers are always made just right. Good stuff! I go way out of my way to take my family there for burgers. I highly recommend this place for great tasting hamburgers.

Wow, this place is hopping! This modest little southside burgeria was packed to the rafters with loyal customers on the day the office lunch crowd decided to check it out. What we found was a solid hamburger joint serving up some straightforward, old-fashioned food. There’s nothing too fancy here, but the menu is varied enough to please everyone. I had the hamburger and French fries, which were fine but not fantastic. I need to go back again so I can try their Frito pie. Please note that they do indeed accept credit cards now, so there’s no need to hit the ATM first.

The burgers were overly salty. I really wanted to like it, but yikes, too much salt. The place was clean and the staff efficient. The chili cheese fries were great, but I wouldn’t make the drive just for that.

Though it’s at a new and improved location the quality of the food has not changed. The burgers are good and hot and the fries are crisp and salty unlike the limp ones you get at Brenda’s Burgers a few blocks away. If you ask for jalapenos on your burger they will hook you up for an additional 30 cents, cheaper than what Whataburger charges. And the shakes are good too.

I’ve had better. The meat itself is delicious but that’s about it. The bread is usually tough or soggy as if the veggies haven’t been properly drained. The fries are never crispy or salted.

TJ’s is a great greasy burger place. I highly recommend you order the double, especially if you like thick burgers. Each patty is thin; I think you can even order the triple, if your health can stand it! The best part is when our number was called, the burger came out steaming hot. No burger warmers at this establishment, which proudly displays its«Blue Plate Award.» The fries are nice and crispy and the onion rings are amazing. I will have to sneak some ranch packets in my purse the next time we go because they do not serve it there… that would be the perfect companion to those golden-brown onion rings. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating with fans. When we went it was considerably cooler outside with the breeze coming through than inside where the cooking seemed to be warming up the restaurant. I love adding local restaurants to my list of places to grab food when I am pressed for time.

The establishment itself has been in the same location for as far as I can remember. However TJ’s has recently been redone in the last year or so. It still limited to its indoor seating which is basically my only complaint about this place because those greasy burgers are darn good. Fries and onion rings are crispy and they are not stingy about giving you a generous amount of them. Their Frito pie of all things is one of my favorites and don’t forget to wash all those calories down with a milkshake. You go all in, in a place like this. The greasy calorie induced food is always worth it.

T.J.‘s has been made-over! I had a greasy burger craving(or a Vitamin G craving as some would call it.) and I had a flashback to when my parents would drive on down to T.J.‘s, order a couple burgers and we’d eat in the car, drive-in style. Headed over down New Laredo Hwy and saw that the T.J.‘s of my youth had been upgraded into a bright and shiny new building but still kept that down-home burger taste. T.J.‘s burger was just as I remembered it, straight-forward, greasy and delicious. The fries have also changed up from steak fries to shoe-string fries but were still fresh and crispy. I’m making it a mission to relive the burgers on this side of town and so far, it’s been fun and fattening.

If you like Whataburger you’ll enjoy T J’s even better. Just think of the juicy burgers you’ve always had there and then pay T J’s a visit ordering yourself a burger and fries. You’ll notice that your burger is made to order and hot when you take your first bite. I’m a fan of Whataburger but have been disappointed by luke warm burgers and fries. T J’s is always made to order and served right off the bat, uh grill. The best thus far. What’s that place in the North side, oh yea Chris Madrids. Tried it and was not impressed. If you want an Old Fashion burger, T J’s is the place. Anywhere else is simply over rated. You can bet your pocket book that just because it’s trendy and high dollar doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good product. They’re just catering a snooty higher society. Some of the best foods originate from the West and South sides, mom and pop restaurants.

TJ’s burgers are nothing special, you can get a bigger and better burger & value at any Whataburger chain in south central Texas. They now take credit cards. Seating is very limited and it’s hot inside without A/C.

I love this T J’s! If i’m ever in the area i have to go here. But remember they are a cash only restaurant. Even when i’m not in the area I plan to make trips to go there. I definitely reccomend this place :)
