History

Established in 2011.

One of the first self-​serve frozen dessert and smoothie bubble tea shops in Alamo Ranch; Spoon It has been locally owned since 2011! Currently owned by an Army veteran and continuously seeking opportunities to serve our delicious treats to a broader customer base!

I am a college graduate of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. Prior to serving you here at Spoon It I served as an Army Engineer officer.

I own Spoon It! Froyo and More with my mom and dad, Joel and Jenny Madrazo. Joel is a chemical engineer graduate of Oregon State University and Jenny is a business administration graduate, also from Oregon State. They have been small business owners for 20 years.

It is our desire to provide you with a family friendly environment where you can enjoy our frozen dessert hub of premium treats. Our intent is to provide the local community with a gathering place to build relationships with friends and family that will last a lifetime. I used to come here all the time with my little sister when I lived back home last year, it doesn’t seem that much has changed. Still great varieties, and still clean.
Have to admit, I was a tad disappointed to see that they didn’t have the New York Cheesecake flavor anymore. However, it has been a year… so I understand the flavor may not have been popular enough to keep around.
One of the things that I did notice was that the staff had changed. When I went here last year, there were a handful of high school/​college kids that worked here on the regular that were super friendly and helpful. When I came here last weekend, it didn’t seem like those employees worked there any more since the two employees I saw looked new and were a bit older than the previous demographic. Yes, they greeted us. And yes, they were polite. However, it just didn’t seem as «open» as before with the previous employees. After we were greeted, the lady behind the counter went to the back. After we picked out all our stuff, we were standing at the register for a good minute while we could hear her chatting with another staff member in the back. Granted, there’s a bell to get service, but as a customer, I still feel awkward having to interrupt anyone to obtain that.
I digress. The service was still nice, and the flavors still delicious. That’s all you need in a froyo shop!

Worst tapioca pearl I have ever had! The Pearl was so soggy even my 5 year old daughter didn’t want to eat it. maybe ima boba snob but the inside should have been 2 weeks and this was soggy. the smoothie lacked some serious flavor as well. there’s sorbet was great but I came for the bubble tea and was extremely unimpressed.

I was really disappointed when I took my daughter here. The employee was nice, but the product was eh… not so good. Don’t know if it was an off day or what, but it’s not worth the $ 12 we paid for the two of us. A little run down and dingy in the store– just not a great impression of what I thought it would be.

It’s your average self serve frozen yogurt place. There’s over a dozen flavors to choose from (sugar free, non fat, regular) and plenty of toppings (crushed candies, fruit, sprinkles, syrup, etc). The store is very bright & clean, you just walk to the back — get your yogurt cup — and start creating.
Of course it’s a popular family/​kid spot so be prepared to deal with cheap-o’s sampling every flavor … who end up getting in the way of others (I’m thinking parents become paralyzed as they walk in the door and forget to control their children).
They make bubble tea … there’s a tip jar next to the register which I’m guessing is if you order a bubble tea because other than that — the 2 girls working the night we went didn’t do a darn thing. I mean, they said HI but made zero conversation while we paid. SUCH A ROUGH LIFE.
Indoor & outdoor seating. Plenty of parking. Free wi-​fi.
A bit pricey so I’d consider this a special treat kind of place.
Flavors were good and the frozen yogurt was a perfect texture.

I would like to leave more stars because this place is really good. However if you advertise 11 pm and the front door is open… common sense is your open. We walked in at 9:50 pm the young lady said they were closed for the night. I was in shock since the door says 11. Unilocal even says 11.

Probably the best yogurt place I’ve been to yet remember they charge by the weight of your cup, so pace yourself with the yogurt it is self serve and they have over 16 flavors to choose from daily.

Use your check-​in offer! They’ve had that for awhile and the folks here are really nice as far as honoring the discount.
The flavors vary but so far they’ve all seemed to be good with each as close or on point as to the labeled flavor as possible. The toppings are similar to what you may find in other froyo shops (mochi, cookie dough, brownies, fresh fruit, caramel, chocolate, nuts, etc).
The place is a bit small inside but they do have seating available outside as well. It’s kept clean and there’s a tv to keep you entertained.

They serve the BEST bubble teas in San Antonio. They are the ONLY place that actually prepares MILK TEA correctly. They have lots of flavors available. My favorite is taro. They actually blend real taro in their bubble drinks. I highly recommend it. Say hi to the owner Sue. She is awesome.
Oh and I like their yogurt better than Orange Leaf, Red Mango, Yogurt Zone & Pinkberry.

Spoon It! Is the best thing about the Alamo Ranch area! First off, the staff is always really friendly and greets you as soon as you walk in the door. I was slightly overwhelmed by the set-​up, first time I’ve ever tried self-​serve froyo, but they let me know what it was all about and offered me small cups to sample their flavors. They have about 15 different flavors, some that rotate seasonally while others are staples. I’m old school/​boring however so vanilla and chocolate was all I needed. So many options for toppings, but I went with cookie dough and walnuts and drizzled with a little caramel and marshmellow crème. Ahhh delicious! It’s also really neat looking inside and always clean. Highly recommend it to quell your sweet tooth!

so this place is amazing. i get excited just thinking about my next visit. it’s top of the line when it comes to froyo joints, with plasma display screens, mod seating and an overall fun desin. The staff was friendly and helpful.
I’ve never seen so many flavors available all at once.
there is just something so fun about making your own frozen yogurt creation!

I enjoyed that this place offers sorbet. I prefer that texture to the creamy yogurt. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and offered sample cups.
My son got his favorite flavor… chocolate. I got the strawberry kiwi sorbet and it was delish. There’s plenty of toppings to chose from. This is my new fave.

Finally another semi-​healthy thing that came from home! FRO YO! at 42 cents a oz not bad. it makes you just a little more conscience about how many toppings you’ll pile on there.
Personal fave: birthday cake with fruity pebbles, yogurt chips and honey. yum.
Dislike: the sign that says don’t take the spoons until you pay. (just something about that sign I don’t like…)

Have you ever seen Robocop? Do you remember the scene where one of the scientists dispenses Robo’s food from a levered machine? The dispensers at Spoon It! remind me of that, except instead of viscous nutrient paste sluicing from the nozzle it’s yogurt. Delicious, delicious yogurt.
Despite their topping bar filled with pulverized cookies, candies, cakes, and sauces, a man on a diet can easily enjoy a healthy ice cream like experience here. All of their yogurts (of which they have several mainstays and several rotating flavors) are either low fat, or no fat and have all of the beneficial micro-​bugs that humans are supposed to have swimming around in them.
On a typical trip my staple has been birthday cake flavor with fruit, of which they also have plenty. I am easily able to reject the siren song of the less healthy options at the topping bar however even then were I to splurge and drop a fat pile of snickers in to my cup, it’s still yogurt which at least to me makes it less of a crime then if I were to go get gold ribbon ice cream smothered in snickers at Baskin Robbins.
The moral of the story is, it’s awesome, not ice cream, but I pretend like it is.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Perfect time to go now since it’s HOT HOT HOT. You can pick your choice of yogurt such as watermelon, strawberry, carrot cake, chocolate, ginger, etc. Then top it with fresh fruits like mango, pineapple, strawberries. Also for the kids gummy bears, fruit loops, etc. There is also condensed milk and other sweets to top. But the best part are these boba balls that explode in your mouth! Soooo good. I’m going back very soon. Even though it is in far northwest part of town.

So I’ve been here a few times and I’m a fan but I’m not like a die hard fan. For one, I find it a bit on the expensive side; I paid $ 17 for two large size yogurts with about 4 spoons of dif toppings. Secondly, they have about 40 something flavors but use the same 16 (only 16 dispensers); so far strawberry is the only flavor I like.
I’ll go again… around pay day.
