Spay-Neuter Assistance Program – SNAP

I really love and respect snap because I feel that they do a very important job in our community. San Antonio really needs places like this and we are lucky to have one.
This is an excellent place to get your pet spayed/​neutered for either cheap or even free if you live n certain zip codes. If you’re looking to just get shots or any other wellness services and your pet is over 6 months old they must be fixed in order to be seen.
I bring in my dog to get his shots, heart worm and flea/​tick preventatives here. It is so much cheaper than going to a vet! It’s definitely worth coming here not just for the money you save but also to support what they do here. If you are needing wellness services make sure you pay close attention to their schedule. check online, don’t call because you can’t get a hold of anyone or call the clinic directly. Make sure they will be open when you want to go and avoid going when they are taking the spay/​neuter appointments because you will be there all day long and it really sucks. I’ve made this mistake twice and had no snacks and no other form of entertainment other than petting George, staring at the other dogs, and playing on my phone.
Lastly get there early right when they’re about to open so you can get in and out as quick as possible.
The staff is really nice and knowledgeable here so I definitely recommend bringing your pet here :)

I took my little guy there to be neutered and the staff was friendly, caring and knowledgeable. I was very comfortable leaving him there and coming back to pick him up. It was affordable and they really don’t push you into getting services you don’t want. My little guy healed up very well, and they sent him home with pain meds. I am going to start using them for my puppy’s wellness needs.

great experience with these ppl, went to the mobile unit. they were nice professional ppl. got cat spayed and all vaccinations. very reasonable rate, so much lower than what I expected. they can only take so many ppl per day, its a small mobile facility so they do a raffle to be fair to everyone, the worst part about my experience were the angry losers of the raffle. pls donate to these great ppl, they don’t just except money, they need paper towels, tape, water, alcohol, printer paper, pretty much anything you can think of to run a business and take care of animals. thx.

I am from Austin so I am use to places like this. I was hoping to find something similar to Emancipet in Austin and I was happy to find SNAP! I guess after years of going to the regular vet and getting average service for crazy high prices, I am super surprised to find places like this. My dog needed her 1 year rabies vaccine and I work regular working hours so actually setting an appointment and taking off work can be a drag. I love this place because they have 3 days (one being Saturday) where you can just drop in. So on a day I was already home, I was able to throw the dog in the car and head on over. The staff was WONDERFUL and super efficient. I remember one horrible trip to the vet where I was there for over 3 hours so the fact that I was done in less than an hour was a huge plus for this place.
I was able to get several shots, heart worm test, an office visit and 12 months of heartworm medication for $ 100. SOLD! We will be back for sure. They only treat healthy animals so this could not be used with sick or injured pets but they are there for you for all the preventative stuff. On top of everything, they were super loving to my pup and she wasn’t freaked out at all by being there.

SNAP does great work at good prices. the staff has always been knowledgeable and courteous, even when our dogs are being total brats. they don’t try to up-​sell me on anything, and the visits are efficient but thorough for all routine things our dogs require.

We would give them 100 stars if we could. We have been taking our gang here for two years for vaccinations, heart worm and flea preventatives, check ups, spay and neuter. This is the most affordable vet service I have found and the lovely ladies of SNAP really know their stuff. Dug, Ziggy, Hank, Timmy and Coogan (RIP) are always well taken care of. We heart SNAP.

Finally an affordable inexpensive (free for some) facility that really does help with the animal population. I’m talking about spay and neutering here!
I believe they have some government funding which is why they can afford to do the things they do, but they strive off donations. If you ever use their services please donate yesterdays newspaper, bleach, paper towels and anything they need at the time you pick up your animal.
I’ve brought over 4 cats in years past and recently my 5 Month pup. I was told that my dog had a rare condition that would cost $ 700 for a cryptorchid surgery. I called around and got rates ranging from $ 200-​$ 300. I emailed SNAP to ask their rates and if they offered that surgery. They did. For a jaw dropping $ 50! They mentioned they had a free spay/​neuter mobile clinic in my area in November. I showed up at the site at 7am among other pet owners taking advantage of this great program. Most people said they had strays. I am definitely impressed with their good hearts and knowledge to help our community prevent over population where stray dogs and cats are concerned.
After a lengthy wait for a lottery number we were called, offered several options for vaccines $ 50 less than other clinics and were all around extremely helpful, caring, animal loving people.
Of coarse visiting the clinic will prevent the lottery style long wait, so be sure to schedule an appointment at their clinic or check when they might offer a special at a mobile clinic in your zip code.

SNAP has neutered two of my dogs and my cats. The staff is friendly and they performed clean, uncomplicated surgeries. Post-​op instructions are clear and direct. Services are affordable.

SNAP is amazing! Now, the only business they get would be from people taking in pets, strays or ferals for a fixin’ but I am going to tell you, if you are looking for a charity or somewhere to donate some cash, SNAP is a worthy candidate.
They are doing good things there!
I took in my third animal for an appointment today. The first was a stray cat that we ended up keeping, the second was a dog that we adopted out and now another cat that I hope to have my sister adopt once she heals.
It’s fantastic to know that I can help out an animal at a low cost, not to mention I won’t have to endure humping or meows of «longing» from foster animals.
So, email them for an appointment and show up the day of your appt. as early as you can to ensure a quick drop off, you see it is first come first served — the appt. is just for the day of the surgery and not the time.
They also have low cost rabies shots and other vaccinations.

I work just south of San Antonio in an office nestled between corn fields (or cabbage, depending on the season). While it’s nice to not be crammed into an industrial park, this location comes with the unpleasant stigma of being a GREAT place to dump pets that you don’t want anymore. Unfortunately, some San Antonians just love that if you don’t want to keep your dog, you can just set it free to find a new home. PS — that doesn’t work. Your dog or cat will most likely die.
A few years ago, a dog was dropped off near the office. She was approximately 9 months old, in heat, and had mange (and a collar, no less). She was also the sweetest dog I’d met. I took her home as a temporary foster for a few weeks while the person who planned to take her home got his house dog-​ready.
Since she was in heat and I wasn’t sure about the status of her rabies shot, in addition to the fact that I didn’t want to pay a ton of money into a dog that wouldn’t be a permanent fixture in my home, I started searching for low-​cost clinics. I found SNAP, a nonprofit organization — Spay-​Neuter Assistance Program, and upon explaining that I wasn’t sure if she was pregnant, found that they were able to squeeze her into their schedule immediately. I dropped her off at 8am the next Saturday morning and picked her up, spayed and stitched up, at around 5 the same day. They were also very helpful in explaining her demodex mange to me, and we got her set up with rabies shots and tags and a heartworm test.
The spay was only $ 65, which was far cheaper than if I had taken her to my regular vet (Castle West). She healed perfectly and was a happy pup again the next day. I recommend SNAP to everyone I know that lives on this part of town, or won’t have their pet spayed or neutered because of financial reasons or because they’re lazy. There are also free spay/​neuter services offered to animals whose owners participate in Medicaid, food stamps, and other government programs.
SNAP also has a mobile clinic which does spay/​neuter surgeries, heartworm tests, vaccinations, and microchipping. Their schedule can be found on the website.
Side note: The people that were supposed to take the dog I had spayed decided that they didn’t want her after all. Nani turned 3 this month and is the resident professional fly-​catcher in my house.
