Nothing special. Blue Bell ice cream is served, which if you aren’t from Texas is a huge plus but this is in no way a special ice cream parlor. If you like getting the added bonus of having hair in your ice cream then this is the place for you!

I don’t see how this place is only a 3 star business. This place is really good. The service is amazing and the flavors that they have are good. We ended up getting the blue moon and cotton candy. What a good combination! Don’t listen to the other reviews. Try this place out for yourself before making a judgement.

Good ice cream and service. My only complaint is that it was cash only and I only had my debit card on me so I had to get money out of the ATM. I got the coconut ice cream with a waffle cone with the top of the cone dipped in chocolate. Yummy.

«Cash only”~ a reasonable request but rude a little. Since 1975, no sugar added, worth to try!

Ice cream is always so yummy and the lines are always fast! Perfect place to sit outside and watch people walk by! You do have to pay with cash which isn’t a problem because the prices are really reasonable considering everything is so expensive on the river walk !

Had a major sugar craving and with so many ice cream and gelato shops around, I almost couldn’t decide where to go. Probably a mistake to go here. The shoplady was so so so friendly but the ice cream was old and tasteless. I had a praline flavor and the nuts were chewy and the cone was stale! There was also a creepy stuffed monkey that would yell out randomly from some kind of toy machine, really startled me since it was just her and me in the store. What a waste of the carbs and calories. Serves me right for cheating I guess.

$ 3 including tax for a «single» scoop that seemed like about a pint. Traditional flavors but nice variety and fair prices. Quick friendly service.

Very friendly service with a smile and they had a great selection of ice cream. Except they did not have any peppermint ice cream which is a favorite for my pregnant wife, so that was a huge bummer to not be able to surprise her with that later. If they would have had that particular flavor they would have totally gotten five stars. There really didn’t have much in seating besides a few tables and a couple barstools. No matter though. We ate our scoops as we strolled back to our hotel.

There are 37 different flavors in the store. We order two scoops of ice cream in a original waffle cone. Sour Rainbow and Cookies and Cream. I don’t know how do you like it, but my husband and I love this ice cream. For us, most ice cream in United States are too sweet for us, but not this one. The texture is soft and thick. The store is not fancy but I don’t think it’s a big problem because most people just take out their ice cream cone and take a walk along the riverside. However, the price is… not that pretty. Is it worth to try? Well… You can buy Haagan-Dazs at any supermarket. Since you are in San Antonio already, why don’t you just give it a try?

What’s with all the Unilocal hate? This was the perfect refreshment after falling asleep on the Rio San Antonio Cruise. Two large scoops on a waffle cone later, I was my perky self again. The cookies and cream flavor was good, but the banana nut was fantastic for a hot and muggy day.

Friendly people work here, which I always appreciate! We were undecided on what we wanted and the young lady helping us was quite patient. Thankfully there weren’t others waiting behind us. The ice cream was good — I wouldn’t say it was anything special, but it was a welcomed treat in a pretty hot spring day.

It was next door to Boudro’s, so the husband and baby wanted to go here. I do enjoy my Blue Bell ice cream… I was craving Cookies n Cream, but they didn’t have it. So I decided to try Peppermint. Needless to say, it sucked. I ended up throwing it in the trash after about 4 or 5 licks. I really wanted to just eat the cone, but there wasn’t an open trash can for me to just dump it in. It was a waste. It was a good portion, but that Peppermint doesn’t taste like Marble Slab’s.

I was surprised to see the low rating on Unilocal for Mr. Ice cream. It was not that bad. I think it was personal perspective. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy but just ice cream anr walked by Mr. ice cream from the street level on our way back to the hotel. The décor of it reminded me of an old fashion café. I have to say that I had the same experience with the server didn’t know who was next in line. Other than that, the banana split was good and yes, big scopes!(I was glad that we decided to share it). Price was fair too.

As bland and uneventful as any ice cream place could be. If you want a better quality cold treat(sorbets and gelato included) you should hike up the RiverWalk(stay on the same side and walk north for less than 3 minutes) and try out Justin’s Ice Cream. The dense quality of the ice cream alone will be a noticeable difference. Not Mister Ice Cream’s cheap Blue Bell stuff that has lots more air mixed into it. If you really just want something cool and cheap, you would be better served going to the McDonald’s a block away on Commerce Street. You can get a soft serve ice cream there for a little more than a dollar with tax included. You’ll also find many other food and drink items at the usual McDonald’s prices. According to neighbors in this part of the RiverWalk, the owner believes that he should spend as little as possible to keep this place going, and the quality suffers as a result. This business is conspicuously absent from the Paseo Del Rio Association, the group of businesses that promote and protect San Antonio’s famous RiverWalk. Apparently this business is all about having the benefits of the Paseo del Rio without coughing up for membership. Check out the Paseo’s website and you can see how many businesses located on the RiverWalk are contributing members. You scream, I scream, we all scream for … Justin’s Ice Cream!

Real ice cream, huge portions, great prices and straight forward service. This is no yuppy, fluffy, trendy ice cream parlor. Worth popping in if you need a break from some of the expensive tourist traps in the area.

All the flavors of yummy blue bell you could want. We went during a slow time when the line wasn’t out the door and the workers were still confused on who was doing what and next in line, etc. My cookie dough float was delicious and satisfied my sweet tooth. Hubby’s butter pecan shake was good too.

I am amazed that more people aren’t mentioning how filthy this place is! I walked in and the place reeked of old urine. There was dried, sticky ice cream all along the handrail on the customer side. There were really old looking cones under equipment that I could see while standing in line. The plastic covering that holds the ice cream in place was broken in two so when the disinterested teenager who scooped my ice cream pulled the scoop up the side he actually finished the scoop on the underside of the broken plastic. Judging by the very dirty condition of the rest of the place I shudder to think what was growing under that plastic lip. I threw that cup of ice cream away the moment it was handed to me. SOGROSS. Oh, and they are cash only. This place literally stinks. If they were offering free ice cream I wouldn’t take it.

Good ice cream! Plain and simple try the flavored it’s a little step back in time! I think that people are very harsh on this place. It says old fashioned ice cream. I hope people give this place a chance! It’s very nice and affordable find on the river walk!

People are really being harsh on this place and I don’t understand why. Mr. Ice Cream was fantastic. First off the price and value were amazing. In New York you will pay $ 5 for a scoop of ice cream. I paid half that and my one scoop was HUGE! They gave me not one but two monster scoops. My friends ordered two scoops and were overwhelmed. They had to quit, but they loved every taste. I got the Happy Trails which is vanilla, caramel swirls, peanut butter and chunks of fudge. One of the best combinations I ever tasted! The place is cash only so just be aware. Though every person should have at least $ 20 dollars on them, c’mon people.

So like, I’m pretty sure if I told you I was a computer technician I should be able to like fix your computer and not just be able to turn it on(and naviagte to #shamlessplug). So like, Mr. Ice Cream, if you say you are homemade, it’s weird to me that all you serve is 37 flavors of Blue Bell. I mean it was good, but like, I was expecting grandmammy churning in the back room good. Also, it’s 2013, and like in the year 2000(said like they do on Conan O’Brien skits) everyone stopped carrying cash. It was a republican presidential mandate. So like, if you only accept cash, put huge signs everywhere and call every flavor«Vanilla We Only Accept Cash» and«Rocky Road Only Accepts Cash» etc, because you almost didn’t get paid. Thank god my mom was with me, who ignores all presidential mandates(i think she even parks in handicap spots) and had some green so we got out of there with out washing dishes, or making waffle cones, or however you pay an ice cream shop back for eating their goods without payment.
