I brought in my iMac and my MacBookPro and both times I have had amazing, fast service. They have friendly staff with extensive knowledge of Apple products.
They are my go-​to for any service I will need in the future as well as for any new Apple products I might want to purchase!

About two weeks ago I brought my 2007 iMac 24 because it refused to power up. I know MAC TLC is a Public Radio Supporter and I had heard good feedback from my friends so I brought my dead iMac in.
Everyone I encountered was extremely polite, a tech took my computer, asked a few questions and said someone would be giving me a call in a few days with the status of my Mac. I left the store very happy and pleased with my decision to go to MAC TLC.
The next day (Saturday) a technician called to tell me that they looked over my Mac and they regretted to inform me my logic board had failed and that I could come pick up my computer. There was nothing that could be done to fix it. I came in that Tuesday and picked up my dead iMac. I was not charged for the diagnosis.
At home, my wife and I discussed purchasing a new iMac, but ultimately decided that we could not afford a $ 2500.00 unplanned expense. I thought about replacing the logic board or even just reflowing the existing logic board. I had read in the forums the the issue was more likely the power supply, so after doing the necessary diagnostics, I confirmed that the problem was the power supply. I asked a friend to do a continuity test on the existing power supply and he determined that 2 of the 4 capacitors had failed and ultimately confirmed that the power supply was at fault. I sourced a new power supply online for $ 100.00 and 3 days later successfully installed the new part. We almost trashed our faithful computer based on MAC TLC’s recommendation, but after about 2 hours work, my iMac works like new!
MAC TLC staff is professional and courteous and may be the perfect choice for Memory upgrades and Hard Drive Replacements for people who don’t work on their own MACS, but for most users MAC TLC is just an alternative to the Apple store. I am sure I will be back to have Applecare work done, but for an out of warranty Mac, you might be better to do the work yourself.
MAC TLC is a great alternative to the Apple Store, but not the best choice for keeping an old Mac alive.

I live on the NW side of town, near UTSA. This place is near the airport. I don’t like driving over there, but this is the Mac repair place we have. I sort of live with that.
Trip #1 (8÷20÷2015): Dropped off my 2010 iMac that wasn’t powering up anymore. After a few days, I called and heard what I always do from this place: Logic board shot, it’ll cost nearly $ 1000 to replace it. It’s what they say about everything. I inform them that I can buy the same computer off eBay for less than that, but I want my data out of the old one. I’ll bring in the replacement when it gets here, and get the old hard drive put in the new computer. I’m assured that this can be done.
Trip #2 (8÷27÷2015): I bring in the replacement computer that I bought on eBay for $ 600. That’s right – the entire computer cost less than what Mac TLC wanted to charge for repairing the same type of computer. The «new» computer is a 2011, but no biggie – one would think. So I tell them, I want the old hard drive put in this «new» computer, and I want them to give me the «new» computer’s hard drive to use as an external drive; I paid for that drive, why waste it, right? I’m assured that all of this can be done, and I PAY IN ADVANCE for the service to be done. They say they’ll recycle the old computer for me. Fine, whatever.
I get no call for a week. I finally call them to ask if my «new» computer is ready. I’m assured that it is.
Trip #3. I pick up my supposedly repaired computer. I’m given a hard drive. They try to charge me AGAIN for the service I already paid for. I tell them I will not pay them one more fricking cent. Oh, they’ve «switched POS systems,» and have to dig around until they realize that yes, I did pay, after all. Thank you very much for finally realizing it.
I finally get to take everything home. I plug in the computer. I try turning it on. Nothing happens. I swap out cords, outlets, you name it. Still nothing. Strangely, it’s doing exactly what my OLD, BROKEN computer was doing. So I turned it over and compared the serial number to the box (yes, I STILL had the original box!), and, lo and behold, it’s the same fricking computer. They gave me my old computer back! Does this mean my «new» computer is headed for the recycling heap? I’m totally in panic mode now.
So I call them to see if they still have my computer. I’m relieved when I hear that they do (it never dawns on them WHY they would still have it!). Now I inform them that I won’t drive over there again, bring me my new computer, and bring it now. Well, they can’t, it’s Friday, you see, it’s almost closing time, we don’t deliver on weekends, and Monday is a holiday. All I ever get when these people mess up is excuses and whining. So what am I supposed to do? I sort of need my computer. Well, I’ll have to bring the old one back, and the drive, too, or wait over a week for delivery of my old computer. Good grief. Fine, whatever. I’ll bring it in to get this nightmare over with.
Trip #4. I bring the old computer BACK on Saturday morning. I inform a new tech what happened, hand over the old computer, tell him to switch out the drives, and do it immediately. He takes it back. Eventually, the tech comes out again, and says that he can’t swap out the drives, something about a difference between the 2010 and 2011 models. WTF? Why was I told my computer was repaired, when it wasn’t, and why wasn’t I told that it couldn’t be OVER A WEEK AGO? Here come the excuses again – «miscommunication» yadda yadda yadda. If I was furious before, I’m livid now.
But wait! Can things get worse? Of course they can! This is Mac TLC! WITHOUT ASKING MY PERMISSION, the tech has started transferring the data from the old drive to the new, AND it will take at least three hours. I can wait, of course, but they close in 2 hours. DUH! It’s a 1 TB FRICKING DRIVE! Of course it will take a while to transfer! What am I supposed to do for three fricking hours? Do they think I want to sit in their boring dump of a business for that long? WTF? Are they stupid? I have a fricking paper to write for college. I don’t have time to waste on these morons.
They’re delivering the supposedly repaired computer to my work on Tuesday, but I don’t care. I’ve had it with this dump. I’ll drive to Austin before I let these incompetent idiots touch my Apple products ever again.
If you absolutely must come here, don’t let Kyle touch your computer. He’s a complete moron, and a coward, too. He refused to face me when I came in that last time, even though HE was the original tech who messed up, and left another holding the bag. I feel sorry for that tech, for having to face someone as irate as I was.
But I’m not all that sorry. I didn’t mess up, after all. Mac TLC did.

I started at Best Buy for service on my MacBook Pro, and the cost of checking it in was quoted at $ 200 so I decided to try Mac TLC. Best.Decision.Ever. It needed a new hard drive, and was repaired within 3 days. My data was transferred over from my backup drive and it was as good as new! John was helpful, called to let me know the repairs needed, and kept me informed as to the timeline for completing the work. I bought a new case cover, 2 surge protector strips, and paid for the cost of the repair for less than $ 200. I will NOT be returning to Best Buy for any kind of service on my laptop. Great service, highly trained staff, and very competitive pricing.

John you know I have been a loyal customer for years at your store. I had custom macs built, bought laptops and accessories over the years. I always say nothing but good things about your company. We shook hands when we walked in and even had a laugh.
I came in today to have my Moshi card reader replaced since it was not working and I have had it under a year and was told that I had a year to come back to have it replaced by your staff.
I asked if the Tech person could maybe look at it to see if he could make it work which I would have been happy to take with me if it did but the customer service I received from your Tech person made me feel like I was trying to steal something from you. His first thing to me was «It’s been over a year we can’t do anything» I then told him to look me up and he found that in fact it has been under a year. (Your receptionist told me I had a warranty at your store so whether I brought in 3 weeks or 1 day before the year expired it should still be honored.) When your Tech person (short heavy hispanic man) found that it was still valid for warranty he gave the receipt to the receptionist and told her it’s up to her. Never said sorry, never said anything but walked away bothered. Why act like that? What did I do? What have I ever done to deserve this treatment? I have never brought anything back in all the years I have done good business with you and to be treated like this for a $ 48.95 card reader?
The receptionist told me to get another one from the display and she proceeded to switch out the card reader. I double check it to make sure it worked and out of the blue comes the (short hispanic tech person) and says let me have that one you got and you can have this one, it’s new and it was not new it was used. He just had to have the last word. I then said I just wanted mine back and I would send to Moshi myself which I am doing and getting a new one.
The receptionist even told me that was wrong and rude what he did but what was the kicker is when I told you «John the Owner of MAC TLC» that you realize I won’t be doing business now with your company based on my experience here today .
You said, and I quote.
John: «I think it’s a Blessing you won’t be coming back»
WOW! you may have been having a bad day but to treat a customer that has spent easily close over $ 7000 or more with you to lose me over a $ 48.95 card reader.
I understand that you are a small business as I am also a small business but to be treated like I was trying to get away with something was wrong. Your receptionist was ready and willing to swap out the product because it was under warranty, because your tech tested and verified it was a flawed product.
I hope you will retrain, rethink your customer service skills because you will lose even more business this way. I will never come back. It’s a shame because I thought you were a good person!

Unfortunately for me, I have an IMAC «lemon.» Fortunately for MAC TLC, attempts to squeeze continued life out of this piece of junk has benefited them with repair
costs that now almost equal what I paid for the machine in the first place!
John Thompson and his staff are always good, fair and reliable to work with, no matter the problem. They have even supported my protests to Apple, Inc., as I attempted (and partially succeeded) in obtaining a refund for the unexplained
loss of the computer’s display screen, an $ 800 ticket! My next protest to headquarters will attempt to seek restitution for repair to the IMAC’s directory and, lately replacement of a barely-​used disc burner…
Although I am fed up with this 2.5-year-old machine, I’m glad there’s a service like MAC TLC to rely upon with it goes down.

I finally had time to bring in my macbook from 2006 (!). The hard-​drive failed, it sat in my desk and then a bunch of other stuff got in the way. needless to say, I was not judged or pressured into buying a replacement when I brought my laptop here. They got it set up in workable condition at a fair price in a day! so glad I don’t have to set foot in the apple stores.

Recently had the hard drive on my 2010 Mac book Pro die and, fool that I am, I hadn’t backed it up recently. John at MacTLC was able to recover all of my data and transfer it to my shiny new hard drive. The price was reasonable and the peace of mind priceless. So grateful! They do great work at a reasonable price. Highly recommend MacTLC!

Been using them for quite a while now. I was once a PC user then my wife opened my eyes to Mac. If and seldom when our macs go down I bring them here. Quick turn around time, very thorough to pin pint issues, price is on point with service, and best if all no San Antonio attitude here! I’m so glad they are near me.

I called MacTLC to see how much it would cost me to replace my shattered iPad Mini display. The guy I talked to was very kind and knowledgeable. He recommended I go to the Apple Store because he thought I might still qualify for something under the limited warranty. Reluctant, I went on his recommendation. Turns out, I qualified for a replacement, and the total cost was less than what MacTLC quoted me on a repair. I’m actually very grateful for the direction they pointed me, despite the fact it wasn’t business for them. It shows they care about your budget and overall experience. I think if I did have something to repair, they will be my first call.

I’ve taken my 2008 iMac desktop computer to these guys twice over the last few years, and I’ve been extremely pleased both times. Unlike the «geniuses» who work at the mothership, the guys at MacTLC don’t act like a bunch of too-​cool hipsters – they actually take the time to listen to what’s going on with your machine and to offer a variety of solutions.
On my most recent visit, they repaired the infamous «flashing question mark» screen (the Mac equivalent of the Windows «blue screen of death») by installing a new 500 GB hard drive and restoring my computer from my Time Capsule. I turned my computer in on a Saturday and got it back on Monday, which was much faster than I expected.
Give MacTLC a try if you have a sick Mac, need a new one or just feel like shopping for some cool accessories. The prices are competitive, and the service is top-​notch. Support this great local business that provides the perfect alternative to the corporate store.

Mac TLC is a calmer quieter place to get your Mac gear. John is always helpful, and patient, wether I am making a purchase, or just asking a question. You may still need to go to the Apple store for your accessories, but stop here first, it is a much more enjoyable experience.

I used to work for an Apple Value-​Added reseller, so I’m fussy and opinionated as a consumer of Mac help. The folks at MacTLC are pros, they don’t pretend to know more than they really do.
If you’ve spent time waiting in line for a «Genius» over at the Apple store in La Cantera, you’ll find MacTLC more laid back, slower-​paced, and better able to focus on the task at hand.
