Bring Your Own Parts

We needed our rack and pinion replaced so I requested a quote and was contacted by Martin. He was very nice and said they could have the car in and out the same day which was great. We purchased the part ourselves from a pick and pull so total cost ran us just under $ 550.00 and we got same day service! We got quoted at another shop for $ 1800.00 which was really not in our budget so Bring Your Own Parts really came in clutch. The car is running great and not leaking anymore power steering fluid!

This review is for the Bandera location. I wish there was a rating less than 1 star. My wife’s vehicle broke down near this shop. As soon as it happened, we knew it was the alternator. Rather than pay a tow truck to bring the vehicle across town, we were able to drive it a half mile to the Bandera location. We told them all we want is the alternator replaced. A couple days later, they texted my wife to tell her a motor mount was broken, rear bearing had «play» in it, the engine was sagging because of the mount, and the fuel injection system was clogged with carbon and her van was not drivable. This was all false. We knew, for a fact, the only issue was the alternator. We insisted we pick up the van ASAP. We picked it up the next day (it was miraculously drivable). We immediately open the hood to find the air intake hose housing attached to the engine was completely broken. This was not broken when we brought the vehicle in. Our regular mechanic (and family friend) is assessing the damage now. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Fortunately, it’s only a matter of time before they’re sued and put out of business.

I had them do my brakes. Very reasonably prices, not pushy at all.

A cheap alternative to repair your vehicle. Parts are at a good price, but service leaves something to be desired. I went there twice, I continue to have issues with the parts and work that were done and won’t go back to get it fixed there, I will just pay another place to re-​do the work. Also, both times they turned a two hour job into a morning till evening repair.

This place is a joke. I took my car to BYOP a couple of weeks ago needing new brakes and a rotor. I told them that, and gave them the parts. They told me they couldn’t fix it, I needed a new caliper. With parts and labor for the caliper alone, it would have cost me just shy of $ 400. Brakes, rotor, caliper, and labor would have run me $ 700. I had them put the old parts back on so I could go get a new caliper. It was worse than before i brought it in. I bought the new caliper, but decided to try to fix it myself. I noticed the caliper was fine, and then replaced the brake pads and rotor like I initially wanted. Then I took the new caliper back to Auto Zone, because I didn’t need it. BYOP is a scam. I ended up saving $ 600 just doing it myself.

I really wanted to like this place, I love the concept!!! I had a really unusual problem… my 2004 Toyota 4 Runner tailgate hatch stopped working. I ordered the part online, called BYOP and they quoted $ 100 to install. I searched all the blogs and DIYer’s stated it was a 30 min job, basically 3 bolts disconnect wiring, replace new one and re-​bolt back in, BUT there was a computer program issue. So as I read about this, before I arrived and, I went to BYOP with both the instructions AND «how to» re-​progam the computer. BYOP honored the $ 100 quote ($ 99.50 an hour) but wanted to charge me an additional $ 69.00 if they had to «look up» the computer programming issue and reprogram it all.
Keep in mind, I CAME IN with the instructions AND the re-​programming info, which was «un-​hook battery, install part, re-​attach battery, turn key to ON position and roll windows down…» NOT much more difficult than that. Well my car was IN the shop right at ONE HOUR, and you, got it, they charged me BOTH fees.
I initially called the dealer and it was $ 400 for part and install. I bought the part for $ 220 and paid BYOP $ 180…mmmm, should of gone to the deal for that one!
Just NOT so impressed on the first round…

Bring Your Own Parts put 500 miles on my car while it was in their shop. It took them 2 weeks to fix my car. This was my first and last time using their services.

I took my van over to bring your own parts which has a hundred thirty seven thousand miles to have the front end replaced. I had the week before I bought a new set of tires and needed to ensure that the man was safe for driving on the highway. The weekend before I took the van to bring your own parts I drove the van to Austin and back and commented on how much smoother the ride was with the new tires. The following Monday I took my van in to bring your own parts and they started the front end work. It took them approximately 2 days to replace the front and tie rod it cetera on my van. That weekend I drove the van back to Austin and noticed I had a severe vibration coming through the steering column. I took the van back to bring your own parts they said they checked it and could not find anything wrong with the work they had done and that the tower tires needed to be balanced even though these work Tire at work less than two weeks old. At any rate they did not fix the problem they had created saying that my wheels were broke now? Lol. There a rip off don’t use them.

I was able to purchase a new headlight through BYOP and have them install it. That part went well. Before I went through with the sale, I asked them over the phone about warranties and one person said that they offered lifetime warranties on parts if things went bad, and you’d just need to pay labor.
The part was the correct part, and they had it one day after I initially called. However, when I got home, I saw my receipt said there was no warranty included. This confused me. I called the next week to get clarification. They said they’d call me back (keep in mind when you call Bring Your Own Parts, it goes to a central San Antonio line… You can’t call the Bandera location directly, it appears to me).
Three days later, I called again, and this time specifically asked to speak to the manager of the Bandera location. They said he’d call me back. He did not call me back.
Finally, I went into the store another week later when I had the chance to. I spoke to the manager, Martin, who was really nice. I told him that since I was told there would be a warranty, I just needed something on paper. That way, I would be sure if anything happened, I’d be covered. He took a look and after a few minutes told me that he needed to do some searching to find out where they purchased the part, and then he could get me the documentation. He said he’d call me back.
Because they were nice in the office, I gave them some time… They are probably very busy. I waited two more full weeks. Finally, today I called them and got a chance to talk to them in the Bandera location again. They said they’d look into it and call me back as soon as possible.
Tonight I received a text message: since it’s a cosmetic part, it’s only a 30 day warranty on the part.

That’s fine. Maybe it’s my fault, in some way. They never told me that the lifetime warranty was on my specific part. I should have done my research, and if I did, I would have walked away before this even unfolded and just gone somewhere else.
I’ll say, customer service wise, it felt like I didn’t even exist. And given some stories that I’ve heard from other people now, I am pretty sure this is my first and last experience with BYOP.

I have done a lot of business with Martin and they are always professional and always have the best prices anywhere…

They repaired my Saab for $ 1100 less than another shop quoted, in 1.5 hours, while I waited. They also confirmed that an expensive brake job suggested by a competitor was unnecessary. Friendly courteous help, free beverages and snacks in the waiting area. Returned my broken parts, and test drive the vehicle to insure it was repaired properly. Very impressed. I will not undertake another major repair again without seeing Bring Your Own Parts first.

No guarantee for work and after the labor of them trying to fix the problem correctly it cost more than regular repair shops with a guarantee on parts and labor. Ended up taking my car to the dealer to have the job done correctly.

So a friend of mine had been talking about this place and how he wanted to take his vehicle there. Im surprised that more places like this don’t exist, because you can ALWAYS get parts cheaper than what most dealerships or large mechanic chains sell them for. Most people either don’t know that, or are too lazy to look around online to find something cheaper. Also, a lot of places wont take outside parts and install them on your vehicle. This is how they make money off of you. Take notes people!
I needed to get my rack and pinion replaced, so I called to get a quote. The guy I talked to on the phone gave me a quote that was actually cheaper than I was expecting. So I take my own part over there (bandera location), and go inside. The one guy I talked to (Martin I believe) was very professional. And I say that because a lot of places you go to… the service people act as if you HAVE to get work done there. They got my vehicle in and got to work. It did take a bit longer than expected but here’s why.
During the installation they found other stuff that needed to be fixed. Surprise surprise, right?. He took me outside and showed me what needed to be fixed. However, what set this guy apart from most others is that he didn’t try to force me to get anything. Most places will make it seem like your vehicle is about to blow up if you don’t get a new air filter. Martin showed me what I needed, got me quotes, but didn’t pressure me. He sat there patiently as I cursed and chose which ones I wanted to replace.
I can only give them 3 stars tho. After they installed the new part and I drove off… my vehicle started making a new noise. a loud one at that. I took it back to have them look at it again. there was something they didn’t remove during the install that was rubbing against something else and making a bad sound. I didn’t like that. BUT… the problem I went there for in the first place was fixed and everything is good.

Maybe I should have tried 281 location… Explained specifically what I wanted done over the phone and was given a reasonable quote so I bought the parts that we had discussed to the manufacturers specs, called back and set an appointment. Got in and they took my car in and had it in parts before telling me that the quote was going to be almost double. Also, was content to wait because I had brought school work with me based on the assumption that they had wifi as was advertised on their commercial, nope strike two, finally (2hours beyond what they said and after checking up several times to see NOONE working on my car but several outside smoking and chatting) I am told that one of the services that was standard everywhere else I checked (alignment after complete strut replacement) hadn’t been done and would cost me even more. Had the alignment done but was told I would have to come back because the machine wasn’t calibrated. Staff was nice and the gentlemen I spoke with on the phone at the other (281) location seemed straight forward and helpful enough. They are the reason I bumped it up to a 3. Next time I will pay what ended up being very little more and leave my car with my regular mechanic. It may take a couple of days to get it back but at least he won’t put me over a barrel and then ask for more money.

Great service and very fair prices compared to different shops around the San Antonio area. They also support the military, which is another plus. I called and talked to Justin at the 281 North location. He was all about the customer and he was about giving the best price he could. I took my Jeep SRT8 to put on some high performance rotors and pads. They did a great job, the best thing about this place is you bring your own parts and they will install them, they have a great staff and mechanics that you can see what they are doing to your vehicle, which they have a clear window to see them work which is pretty cool. There’s no gimmicks, just good service and fair prices. They work on all vehicles to include high end cars and SUVs. Just bring your own parts! Yes I recommend this establishment.

I like to have full synthetic in my engine as you can go up to 15 000 miles with it without a problem. Actually the USA is the only country in were people change the engine oil every 3000 miles.
So I asked around and it cost about 120 to 150 dollar to get an full synthetic for my vehicle. So I went to his place here and brought the oil I bought in sale. I use Mobile 1. It cost me just $ 20 bucks to get the oil change done.
They were quite fast and they had free SECURE WiFi, something most other stores don’t have.
They get only four stars as this is my first time and I have to see what the future brings.

My husband and I have used BYOP to repair both of our vehicles several times. I compared to the dealership’s cost when they replaced my struts and BYOP was about half the price! They’ve always done a great job, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. I especially like that they take me into the shop to SHOW me what’s wrong with the car before they do the repairs. The waiting area is nice since they have a TV as well as free snacks, drinks and WiFi.

This place have revolutionary all over it, I mean full control of your bottom line is paramount for a customer, and this place fits the bill! No longer are we consumers bound by the rules of the typical mechanic which holds you hostage to additional fees and higher prices by only allowing an allotted parts to be used int he repair process, and ultimately costs yo 2 to 3 times more that what the repair should be. Not at BYOP, this place is definitely «of the people» they guide you through the consultation and diagnosis of your vehicle and have you follow overboard on the service chart. The lobby is so comfortable and after breaking the ice with other fellow customers, a Saturday afternoon repair becomes a private lounge with new friends. It’s a definite must for those with limited capital and yet demands skilled competent technicians who know their $#!+ yo! Give them a look, drop by and don’t tell me the place ain’t cool, they’re the only ones touchin’ my ride, you should too.

I have taken my car to BYOP several times and they have saved me a ton of $$$. Talk to Martin he is a great businessman and knows how to treat a customer. I had a starter replaced a few years back when it went bad he stood behind his lifetime warranty and replaced the new starter for only $ 85. I had another problem with a special intake hose and mass air sensor (a replacement I can do myself) However this is a special order after market or dealer only part so I was looking at spending $ 300 at least. I took it to BYOP and he ordered the part for me for only $ 30

Took my car in for a catalytic converter repair and they did a great job, the price was more than fair. Other places wanted to charge me 700 to 1000 and I walked out the door for under 500 for parts, labor, AND towing. WOW! ;) They made sure that no unnecessary work was done by keeping me informed of every step. Also, some of the things I told them might be wrong they found out were fine… most places would have done the work anyway just to get more money out of me. As a single mother I appreciate so much the courtesy of Martin my service provider and the price point. I feel comfortable recommending BYOP to anyone.
