We always have at least 44 flavors of ice cream, gelato and sorbets on display in the front and we have been responsible for over 300 different flavors of ice cream, gelato and sorbet.

Some crazy flavors we have had in the past are: The Kick (pineapple, mint, coconut, and habanero), Cardamon, Root Beer and Cherry-​Vanilla Dr. Pepper sorbet, Candied Ginger, Pumpkin Pie, Honey Pine Nuts, Grand Marnier in Chocolate, Guinness in Chocolate, Southern Comfort, etc.. . And we are always open to new ideas.

Of course we also always have the classic flavors including Chocolate, Strawberry and Butter Pecan. Be Sure to try out our True Vanilla.. .We import the flavor from Madagascar; the only place in the world that provides pure vanilla extract (zero artificial flavoring). Sure it may be a bit expensive, but it is sooooo worth it. We always try to have at least two dairy-​free sugar-​free flavors.

And of course what Italian dessert shop would be complete without a full espresso bar?

History

Established in 2001.

Brindles is a home-​made, mom and pop ice cream, gelato and espresso shop in the Strand Shopping Center off Huebner Road. When we mean home-​made ice cream we mean home-​made ice cream (well, made daily at the store anyway). When we mean mom and pop, we mean James and Fabiola Whitson; the sole proprietors of Brindles. We have been open since 2001 and provide great customer service in an awesome atmosphere. All our ingredients are fresh, fantastic and authentic (trust us.. .you learn at least a bit of Italian if you work here).

We have won the Critics Choice for best Ice Cream from the San Antonio Express News every year since 2002. We always have at least 44 flavors of ice cream, gelato and sorbets on display in the front and we have been responsible (in good ways and bad — who’s idea was was the creamed corn flavor?) for over 300 different flavors of ice cream, gelato and sorbet.

This is a definite must go to spot if you are coming to San Antonio. The flavors are amazing, the service is friendly, the cost is affordable, it’s clean, and the mood music is great! Come early for best choices as it seems they sell out of some flavors and cone options.

Touted as the best ice cream in San Antonio, I say it’s fair but not the best I’ve ever had. However to give them credit it seems fresh and the staff were nice.
Honestly I remember getting some mint chip of some sort and another flavor with caramel in it but beside that my memory isn’t sticking. What I can say though is that was one of my first ice creams in a long time beside Salt & Straw in Portland back in March.
I would go back but I think I need to try the other «Best Ice Cream in San Antonio» and make a very informed decision *wink wink*

Came on a Friday night with a friend for a banana split. There’s a lot of people on Friday nights so prepare for a slightly wait. I always enjoy trying the different ice cream flavors and my favorite item to order is the banana split. If you want to eat it, make sure you ask if there are any bananas in their inventory. A few times I have been sadly disappointed.
There was a new person today so he was a little overwhelmed, but prepared the best banana split I have ever eaten in the 10 years at the shop. It comes with three scoops, two choices of nuts, caramel and chocolate syrup, whip cream, and a cherry.
The atmosphere is relaxing with a good amount of seating inside and outside. They supply water from a pitcher as well as other drinks, coffee, and ice cream snacks.

This place is ok. They have at least 16 to 18 gelato flavor choices. No ice cream here. I got me a one scoop in a chocolate dip waffle bowl. The gelato flavor I love, but the chocolate waffle bowl had no flavor. Chocolate didn’t even taste like chocolate. I paid extra $ 1 and I end up throwing it away. It was 10min before closing and the young lady said to us we can eat outside. We really didn’t want to, but she makes us feel uncomfortable someone is rushing us out. So we just went outside. Then it started drizzling. :(

I would give them 5 stars for the ice cream but the milkshake was sour. When I tried to return it they brushed us off and said they couldn’t do anything about it. For 4.25 they should have replaced it with an ice cream or given me my money back.

The sizes and scoops are decent. You can get away with sharing with a friend if you aren’t too hungry. I had the Azteca and the brindled ice cream. If you really like cinnamon then I recommend the Azteca. The brindled was sweet and tasted butterscotch mmmm. I would like to go back and try more of their ice cream flavors and gelato. Customer service was excellent!

The name pretty much says it all — Brindles = Awesome Ice Creams.
Brindles is located right next to Flying Saucer and Half-​Price books. There’s seating both indoors and outdoors, but not a lot of it. However, it isn’t very packed (at least that I’ve seen). Brindles is basically like an upgraded Marble Slab. They have a lot of different flavors, you can add whatever toppings you want, order a milkshake, ask for a sundae etc. The ice cream itself is nice and creamy; it is a little bit on the sweet side of ice cream and reminds me of a creamier Ben&Jerry’s. One of my favorite parts about Brindles is that they give A LOT of ice cream per scoop, which I guess should be expected because its about $ 4-​$ 5 for a medium cup.
Tip: Unlimited samples, make use of that

This is one of my favorite ice cream places and I always find an excuse to go get some when I go to the movies. I like how they somehow pile on a bunch of ice cream into those little cups so don’t underestimate the sizes.
All of their flavors are really good, but the Azteca is a must!
The staff is really friendly and lets you try whatever you want, which is really important when trying to make such a tough decision with all the choices!

What happened?
No external lights on, the place is practically dead. 25% smoothies but they had only 1 flavor and we were referred to nearby boba Sip by an employee (cannot find it on this app but I would give it 3 stars). All of the 6 kinds of dipped cones were sold out. The final insult: NO MUDDY FEET! Major disappointment.

I’m not from San Antonio so I had never heard of this place but as soon as a friend showed it to me, I could tell it was the best. The flavors are amazing and the consistency of the ice cream is so different than anything I’ve had before. It’s a small place in a good area with great customer service. The employees are always extremely nice and patient with you trying flavors. The prices are also good, way cheaper than Marble Slab or Baskin Robbins for the same if not more quantity. I highly recommend the pistachio and almond joy, SO good.

Nice little ice cream shop that occasionally offers really unique flavors. I love the cardamom and also the maple, each of which I’ve only found there once, but I keep checking back to see if they’ve made them again. Also, the green tea ice cream is the only version I’ve had in the US that is ‘right’… not overly sweet, but very tea-​ish. Mmmmm. It helps that it is right next door to one of my favorite spots in town (Beerknurds!) and that the two businesses are supportive of each other (so I can bring my Brindles in the Saucer!) They also have fantastic chocolate-​dipped waffle cones. If you catch them fresh-​dipped, they are good enough to eat without the ice cream (which I do when they don’t have one of my preferred flavors.) Of course the local and hand-​made aspects of this spot are an added bonus. Give it a try!

My first visit to Brindles Awesome Ice Creams was just an okay visit. I can’t say why exactly, but it did not give me the warm and fuzzy. The Ice cream was good and for three people spending a little over $ 10 for our entire bill; I can find some warm and fuzzy somewhere. I had the coffee and the hazelnut which was a good combination.
The service we received was amazing and the tip jars for voting on the outdoor window art was quite different and fun to participate in.
We may try this again…

Brindle is pricey, but for good reason — all the ice cream is home made!
This was not my first time to come here and it won’t be my last time. The service is always wonderful and they’re kind about letting you try flavor samples.
Yesterday I sampled the crème brûlée, tiramisu, brindled, and the cookie butter. The cookie butter ice cream tastes just like the version at Trader Joes (this is a good thing). The tiramisu was a little overpowering for me. The brindled was delicious. Overall, I ended up ordering the crème brûlée flavored ice cream.
Even though I ordered a small size, Genevieve, was generous with the serving. For this reason, I think we got our money’s worth. Her service was excellent even though it was towards the later part of the night. We had a great experience. We will be back!

The girlfriend and I were craving some ice cream. So we checked this place out for the first time. I felt bad trying so many flavors but the woman behind the counter was pretty patient with me lol.
I ordered the Heath fudge and Brindle ice cream with caramel drizzled on top. What an awesome combination. I loved the little bits hidden inside the Brindle and the fudge mixed inside the Heath fudge was delicious. The girlfriend ordered the Crème Fraiche and Crème Brulee. It was an awesome combination!

After visiting the Strand shopping center in the Huebner Oaks area multiple times, I was surprised to learn about Brindles Awesome Ice Cream from the Current’s Best of San Antonio 2015 issue. I had unfortunately completely overlooked this place!
Don’t be fooled by the underwhelming outside, however. Upon entering Brindles, you will see the many awards and accolades they have accumulated throughout the years at local festivals and in local publications. You might also be a little overwhelmed by the amount of delicious options staring back at you from behind the counters. Brindles says they have at least 44 flavors of ice cream at all times.
Brindles offers gelato, sorbet, and ice cream, as well as coffee beverages and other treats (I didn’t try the affogato, but I can only imagine how delicious an espresso shot would be poured over their ice cream). What stands out about Brindles is their creative flavors of both ice cream and gelato, like crème fraiche, bacon walnut, and cookie butter. This is not your normal ice cream shop. Their friendly staff were extremely patient with my husband and I as we stood in front of the counters, mouths open, as we attempted to make a decision. Luckily, the staff provided us with multiple samples, so that at least our difficult decision would be well informed.
After trying several samples, I settled on the Kick, which includes pineapple, coconut, mint, and habanero. The tropical fruit flavor of the ice cream was perfectly complemented by the aftertaste of a hint of heat; a not quite expected but welcome addition to my ice cream experience. My husband enjoyed a scoop of Moose Tracks, a peanut butter cup concoction that he commented was some of the best ice cream he has ever had. Although both of us tried our hardest to eat slowly, we couldn’t help but scarf these down.
Prices were reasonable, and for a child’s size portion (which was the perfect, one scoop amount), we only paid around $ 2.75 for each ice cream. They have comfortable seating inside, as well as covered seating outside for lovely Texas afternoons.

When Brindles first opened the ice cream and gelato where outstanding. The owners made the icecream themselves everyday. I had not been back in a few years — Today the sorbets all tasted like water and and where frozen solid like ice — the gelato was substandard. The place is run down and dirty. The windows are all full of dirty hand marks and tables outside havent been cleaned for days (full if spilt ice cream and sticky). The owners should fire the manager

We absolutely love Brindles! So many amazing choices… Gelato, Sorbet and ice-​cream homemade daily! They also offer shakes, sundaes and the «cold stone» mix-​ins. The consistency is so creamy, like butter. Also, the prices are way better than Baskin-​Robbins for a much better quality product. The place itself is so cute and cozy with plenty of seating, indoors and out!

Delicious ice cream! If you want the most popular flavor (I forget the name but it’s a mixture of hazelnut, chocolate and I think maybe a hint of cinnamon) you have to be the early bird or they run out. I am never the early bird (even for chocolate hazelnut ice cream) so I was left with the only option of buying a pint of mixed ice creams in layers, one of which was this popular hazelnut chocolate that has such great reviews. Not the best choice for initial taste test because I did not get the flavor of just this layer but the many others that were all very delicious individually but I was disappointed that they didn’t allow me to experience the true flavor of this popular hazelnut one that I’ve read rave reviews about and was so looking forward to trying. So I have a general idea of the taste and it’s enough for me to keep trying to be an early bird so I might have the opportunity to have the full experience.
The mixed pint I bought with the layer of flavor I was looking to try was very cheap when sold this way. It was less than $ 5 and had plenty of delicious ice cream flavors.
Customer service was friendly but parking on a weekend night is few and far between. I suggest trying to be the early bird but so far even I haven’t been able to follow my own advise. If I finally do, I will be sure to update.

Unique flavors! These two words just about sum up Brindles. This store has your usual boring flavors such as: Strawberry and Cookies & Crème BUT they also have really unusual flavors (at least for Texas) that are just as tasty. I’ve been a frequent customer of this establishment for the past few years. Recently, I went with one of my sorority sisters and I fell in love all over again. I got their medium bowl, which comes with three very generous scoops. I chose the flavors Crème Fraiche and Pan Cotta. My usual favorite flavors (like at Marble Slabs or Cold Stone) is sweet cream and the Crème Fraiche was even better. They have a frequent customer punch card; after X amount of punches, you receive a free ice cream. I really like this reward system because I LOVE ice cream. Definitely recommend this creamery to all ice cream lovers, including the picky ones, as they have a massive variety of flavors and cones.

Let me start off by saying that I have been to Brindles many times during my relatively short stay in San Antonio, and I had great experiences every single time.
Brindles has some great hand-​made ice cream flavors, many of them unconventional. Some of my favorite flavors were the hazelnut, tiramisu, and Italian cream. I would highly recommend trying the affogatos. Brindles adds generous scoops of ice cream, pours espresso, and tops it off with whipped cream… it’s absolutely amazing.
One of the best aspects of Brindles, other than the amazing ice creams, was the staff — they were personable and professional, and had great recommendations every time. Also, they never got offended when I asked them to try flavor after flavor after flavor… mmm…
Lastly, as for the atmosphere, it does get crowded during the weekends (especially during Friday nights), but it’s relatively quiet. It’s a small/​cute/​tidy ice cream shop, with outdoor seating… absolutely perfect for the summers.

I was at half price books with my daughter & fiancé and as we were leaving we noticed Brindles ice cream shop, our daughter wanted ice cream so we stopped in. We each picked a 1 scoop waffle cone ice cream, my daughter picked pistachio, my fiancé strawberry cream, and myself the stracciatella ice cream. Well both my girls really enjoyed their ice cream but my choice was not good at all. It literally tasted like it was old or had freezer burn on it. It was disgusting so I tossed it in the garbage! I did sample a couple of flavors before choosing this one, maybe I should have sampled this flavor before picking it (my fault I guess) I figured since the other flavors were good this one would be as well but no it was gross. Bad batch maybe?

Brindles is a very cool and hip little ice cream shop! It’s a very chill atmosphere In between the half price books and the flying saucer.
–quiet little last to just chill out or hang with some friends
–many flavors of ice cream and gelato in various sizes of cones and cups
— they even have lattes and a bakery section

So many flavors to choose from! I love stopping by Brindles whenever I’m in the Huebner Oaks shopping center, especially after Flying Saucer.
Service is great and professional! The shop is well-​kept and clean. They have a couple of tables outside too. They are dog friendly, so I’ve brought my pups along to enjoy sitting outside for ice cream. (I think my husband and I took turns waiting outside with the dogs to decide what to get.)
Parking can be a little difficult though, so just a heads up!

Came here after searching for a non-​chain local ice cream shop & seeing the mostly good Unilocal reviews. Have not stopped returning!
Wide variety of flavours both traditional and original/​experimental. Their cases carry ice cream, gelato, and sorbet ~ something for every preference. Staff have always been friendly to me and other customers there at the time, accommodate as many tastings as you desire and don’t rush you through the decision making process.
I appreciate the element of surprise during visits to Bridles, I am particularly drawn to their unique flavour combos & never know what new surprise they will have in store. On my most recent visit the highlights were: Avocado/​Orange ice cream, Cookies & Coffee ice cream, and Maple/​Bacon/​Walnut ice cream. Avocado/​Orange was a lovely combination ~ not too sweet, smooth and very refreshing. Cookies & Coffee was a grown up take on a childhood favourite, the coffee flavour was deep ~ almost like espresso. Maple/​Bacon/​Walnut was by far the best of the bunch with salty, meaty bacon pieces which were neither fatty nor flaccid ~ I brought home a quart of this flavour!
I am aslo enamored of their Muddy Feet sundae, two scoops of your choice atop a generous portion of warm chocolate chip cookie dough and toppings of your choice ~ I could not have imagined a better sundae.
Pick up one of their Free Ninety-​Nine cards at the counter, buy 12 small ice creams & get one for free. Who doesn’t want a free serving of ice cream?
