Boardwalk On Bulverde

Went to Boardwalk this weekend for the Food Truck Showdown, it was very busy but that was expected since they were giving away free beer and had bouncy houses for the kids. The live music was decent. We hit up Slider Provider and Gracie’s Taco Truck. The sliders were amazing and would definitely recommend them. The taco truck had ran out of a couple choices and the street tacos we got were pretty greasy.

Great family environment. We like to take our kids here because they have fun as well as adults do.
Would like to see more variety.

Hopefully this place will repoen like it used to be. It was cool when on a weekend there were at least 4 running trucks. I just dont see that anymore. We used to visit monthly. But the selection has gone way down ao havent been in a while.

Disorganized. I want to like this place but I just can’t do it. You never know the rules or what trucks will be open. The food at some of the trucks is good but not worth the disorganization.

I have been driving past this place DAILY to and from work for years and have never been able to figure out when they are open?! So I was a little frustrated and not expecting a lot. I had given up the thought of trying any of the interesting sounding foods when last weekend I saw them on the news. They were doing a Food Bank collection event with live music. So we decided to go, but we went later than we should have. We got there about 9 pm and all but one or 2 trucks were closed!?! The 2 that were open had unbelievable lines.
So we never tried a bite:(
Had a couple of beers and enjoyed the music and people watching. It had a fun dog/​child friendly vibe and very relaxed crowd. I enjoyed it, too bad we couldn’t try any of the foods.
Want to try it again and hope the lines won’t be so long.
So 2 stars might be a tad harsh… If I can figure out when they’re open and can get food I’ll be happy to change my review.

This place should go away.
I went here twice recently and both times were a waste of time. The first time the lines were so long that there was no way I was going to stand around getting a tan in 100 degree sun for half an hour just for some food. The second time? Same thing.
Parking is atrocious: just whatever you can find in a grassy field after squeezing between pedestrians for 10 minutes. On top of that, the place causes traffic to pretty well stink in that area for everyone else.
The magic of food trucks is wasted; they aren’t coming to you or appearing at random locations — you’re going to them. You have all the cons of going to a regular restaurant (lines, parking) and none of the pros (air conditioning). I think some of the trucks only take cash too which is ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong — I love food trucks… in a certain context… this isn’t it.
I think this place should disappear. If you’re craving something specific, just go to a regular restaurant.

There are more choices than before, some really great food trucks with fresh local treats. Sir-​wacha is a fave, really excellent fried rice and banh mi sandwich. The pies at Ain’t ya Momma’s Pie are also very tasty.
Really needs more cover, not nearly enough shade while waiting in line, the is terribly hot and it’s not even Aug., which is normally the hottest month here. Couldn’t find any available covered seating, ended up eating in the car.

Great place! It’s a lot of fun occasional love music, GREAT SELECTION OF THE FINEST FOOD TRUCKS IN SAN ANTONIO!!! The only down side is the parking. It’s right off of the road and if your no careful you will be hit by oncoming traffic. Good family atmosphere. Definitely should try this place!!!

Of all the food truck spots here in town, this one is my fave. It has some room for improvement but overall it is spacious for both eaters and vendors, its been recently remodeled to be more inviting for new comers and even more accommodating for children and families with more play areas for the kiddos. I’m talkin’ the full shebang for the little ones, a bouncy house, a sandbox, a 2 floor wooden playhouse with a slide and a fair amount of room to let them run around.
At least half of the ‘park’ is covered in wood chips on the ground and the trucks are parked on the perimeter like a modern day version of Oregon Trail. Minus the dysentery of course. I’ve been here enough times to know that the majority of food trucks that come here have great food and each has something unique to offer. Most notably, I can recall a truck which made an out of this world beer battered Fish Taco, This Ain’t Yo Mama’s Pie charges an arm and a leg for mini pies but they’re worth every penny and a Tamale food truck keeps their wrapped goodies moist by using cream cheese with flavorful chicken… yummmmm.
I enjoy the food here, most vendors have reasonable prices and the park is very family & pet friendly but the couple negatives here are crappy parking which is tucked in the back and for days when it rains, that means you’ll be trudging through the mud and the wood chips can get annoying when you’re walking around and nearly twist your ankle because the ground is uneven and slanted at times. Otherwise, come with a group when they have live music and get ready to get yo grub on!

Square’s catering yum! I don’t recommend Gyros pizza. Digiornos much better. We enjoyed the brisket on fries.

Great food truck hangout for the family and friends. It seems they have about 7 food trucks out tonight. Kids can enjoy the swings and jump castle. Video games also available in an old school bus and basketball.

This place has gone severely downhill. I have awesome memories at BOB but it’s seriously disappointing every time I’ve gone back in the past few months. If you look at the reviews, a huge majority of them are from 2012 through early 2014.
The last straw for me was on Saturday last week when they advertised on their Facebook page they would be open and they had four trucks open and a live band. I gathered up the family, stopped at HEB to pick up some beer, and arrived there with NO TRUCKS and NO LIVE BAND. I immediately went back to their website to ask what happened when there were several others stating they had showed up and no one was present. They deleted the post and acted as if nothing happened.
Needless to say, I will not be back here for a while. The Point is definitely a lot better IMO.

Came here once last year for the truck showdown event.
The event was not bad. I had fun. The parking was kinda horrible tho. The park itself was all right. Nothing special. And it was also a bit hard to get to. Since it isn’t really my kind of place, I haven’t been since then. But don’t get me wrong, I do like food truck parks. Alamo street eat bar is my favorite. This place just doesn’t have the charm, pass.

This is a great alternative to hit up when you are looking for something different to do than the usual norm. The setup of this place is so unique and fun, not to mention family and pet friendly!
When you first arrive here you will immediately notice cars parked alongside Bulverde road. Don’t worry though they have a back parking available for about five dollars. It is best to be mindful that people will be crossing the street and there isn’t a direct cross walk zone so make sure to not play the «10 Points» game with pedestrians.
What I really like about The Boardwalk is the wide variety of food trucks you can choose. Each one is unique and different so you won’t have to worry about not have great options to munch on. Every food truck accepts major credit and debit cards so that is a plus!
There usually is live music going on so you have a nice background setting. Plenty of seating areas as well and there are bathrooms for people to use.
Depending on the day they may offer Free Beer Fridays but if not they charge for beer which is about 2 – 3 selections on tap.

The Boardwalk is alright — some interesting food options I suppose, but for the most part, pretty standard fare and nothing that made me say, «WOW, I gotta have it!» Also kind of a bummer to see chains there… really, a Steak & Shake truck? No thanks. The atmosphere wasn’t super lively, though we were there on a Thursday night so I can’t speak to how it is on weekends. I might come back if there were a truck or two I really wanted to try, but I’m not that impressed when I compare it to other food truck hubs in the city.

This is a great concept but it needs some updating. Not to mention it was super boring! For a Saturday night you would think more places would be open and there would be more people there. The only reason me and my friends stayed is because we were having a going away party for another friend.
I just can’t see myself going back.

I adore this place.
It’s open air, provides ample seating and lets you bring your own beer.
Also, there’s FREE BEER on Fridays.

While the food trucks vary a little day to day, the options are nice and the atmosphere is fun.

The heat and humidity of the city can be unforgiving. Depending on the time of year going anywhere outside to activity might be out of the question. But even on a cool summer breeze or the beginning of the fall wind, still slightly warm, may I suggest you go to The Boardwalk on The Bulverde.
It is like an area perfect for families, kids, a date or if you want to just go by there yourself. First the parking can get a bit interesting. Since this place fills up rather quickly you can park on the side of the road and walk to the entrance. Inside there is a fun, playful atmosphere here. Food Trucks line the grounds as though this was some RV Rest stop. They have just about anything you can think of or are craving for. For example I have spotted Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, Toastie Buns, Rickshaw Stop to name a few. And not to be outdone they sell tacos, pizza, cupcakes; the food trucks rotate periodically.
They have special events based around holidays like St. Patrick’s, among others, which seems to do really well. With the caravan of food trucks they also have big competitions to see who has the best food. It is basically a real fun, laid back spot to carouse and try different truck cuisine.
In addition, subsiding special events it is BYOB. This helps because as I segway to the next part of the review food truck fare, while tasty can be very pricey. For example I had a burger here that came out to ten bucks. And I could sense that the patty was frozen and the fries were taken straight out of an Ore~Ida package. Remember that food truck fare, while not the typical dinning experience can be a little more than restaurants. My suggestion is for you to try various items from different trucks. This will help you in deciding to commit to a $ 15 plate. Needless to say my experience was not dampened by this.
One of my big issues is space here. If you don’t get here early and grab a seat you will be standing with your food all night. Another issue I have is the manner in which trucks are positioned. Sometimes, by no fault of their own trucks are spaced too closely together and this blocks the flow of traffic. It would be best to position them in a way that does not block people from moving freely throughout the park. And lastly trucks need to distinguish the line of people that are waiting for food in relation to the ones that are waiting to place an order. I stood in one line waiting to place my order only to discover in reality I was behind people that already paid. Trucks need to ring up people and then guide them from preventing others to do so.
I do like The Boardwalk on Bulverde. It is a haven for Truck food lovers and foodies alike. Its fun atmosphere makes it perfect to bring families here, a date and yet it still has an edge to it not to exclude our burgeoning Foodie Culture. There are a cacophony of trucks with all styles of cuisines to match. And if you are not careful you might score food from the same truck that wins The Great Food Truck Race! It could happen…

I came here once months back and it was closed, but I didn’t really mind because I didn’t know what I was missing out on at the time. But let me tell you, ever since my very first actual successful visit (about a month ago) I’ve been itching to go back! The hot dogs at Dirty Dawgs were definitely my favorite, along with everything I sampled from Society Bakery. I will say that my least favorite item was the carne guisada plate (I split it w/​someone and they also didn’t care for it) from Gracie’s Kitchen since it was very similar to CG you would find at TC’s. Not that it’s a bad thing, just not exactly «home-​made.» I would like to mention that service from all 3 trucks I dealt with was above average.
Parking is a little strange, maybe you will be lucky enough to catch someone while they’re leaving and grab their parking spot. There are picnic tables throughout the entire grounds, though do watch out for uneven patches in the grass and areas to step up and place your order. With all that free beer going around on Fridays I can totally see someone accidentally tripping over some of those obstacles :) On that note, you can bring an ice-​chest with you to BoB and everything will be right with the world.
I took cash with me, but I think I overheard someone saying a few trucks accepted cards. They say they’re pet friendly, too, so we’ll definitely have to check that out next time we go! Which I’m hoping will be soon. According to their website they have 8 trucks so you should be able to find something you like, whether to quench your thirst, appease your appetite, or grab a giant cookie from Society Bakery to calm that sweet tooth. LOVE this place!!! After trying the food trucks on SoCo last year, I fell absolutely in love with the food truck concept. And then my sister recently told me that San Antonio also has its own food truck location! And it is amazing!
The vibe is awesome, with live music and games and the people were pretty friendly when my sister and I went. And of course the food is amazing. I pretty much tried a little something from every truck so I can’t even remember what I got, but I know I wasn’t disappointed! I definitely plan to make a visit there sometime soon because I am already having withdrawals. Thats how good it is.
