Great little spot for a German draft beer. Good spot for events as long as you don’t mind polka music and bratwurst. No food except during special events. No dogs allowed when there is food. Cash only.

Love this place. Each time I’ve been the staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of beers! This would be a cool place to take out of town guests.

Now this is what I am talking about for a German experience! This place is only open a handful of times during the year to the public. This place will give you an awesome German experience with culture, music and people! You mostly have to sit outdoors but there is lots of picnic table seating and plenty of German to go around! There is a building with a bar inside that you can visit as well. On First Fridays they serve delicious Brats, sauerkraut, german potato salad, pretzels and desserts. I think it was only $ 2 to get in and I believe the money goes to their organization for keeping German culture alive. I always visit Beethoven’s on First Fridays and will keep it in my rotation for sure!

Talk about a hidden treasure! If you unfamiliar with this place, just think about Southtown, it is right at the end of the strip before Blue Star. It looks like a house with a small lighted sign out front. What you will find when you go inside is another world! They pride themselves on their German beer selection and usually don’t disappoint. I am a Wit, Blonde, Saisson, Trippel girl, so there’s a lot of room to hit the mark. Their staff is very friendly and it’s a very homey atmosphere. Great draft selection and some good bottles and cans in their bev case. If you don’t see what you’re looking for on tap, ask the bartender Jason he will help you and be very patient with you.
Come back for Gartenfest, First Friday, St Patty’s and of course OKTOBERFEST! they have a great seating area in the back and set up booths and serve great German food (ie-​pretzels, brats, schnitzel and more and its’s yummy!)

My very first visit I got to see the men dressed up in awesome German lederhosen and women were wearing dirndls. All carrying or drinking from old stylish beer steins. Felt I stepped into the Mother land! Everyone here is friendly, looking to have a good time, chat you up and help you have a good time too.
This particular night was first Friday and the Spurs were playing. Got here with a friend ($ 2 at the door) and saw that it was kinda empty, then realized everyone was inside the hall watching the game on the big screen. Sadly the Spurs lost, but it didn’t dampen the party as everyone came piling out to join in on the live music and dancing. The evening was perfect for sitting outside. Enjoying the night air, cool breeze. My beer was cold and the music and people were loud and proud!

Fun place to go when you want some authentic German beer and to watch a game. They boast a medium sized indoor bar with several big screen televisions. The outdoor patio is even more impressive with picnic benches and small stage where you’ll routinely find performances from local groups and big bands.
On first Fridays, during Fiesta and other special events they also sell German style snacks — big chewy pretzels, dogs with kraut and reubens are a few choices I’ve seen.
Fun place no matter when you go.

We regularly visit Beethoven’s and when we decided to get married, we immediately agreed that it would be the perfect place to have our reception… we could not have picked a better place! The staff was so incredibly helpful, especially the bar manager Jason Trevino. Despite having the reception the day after First Friday, they came in early and set up the garten to our specifications, and even let us get in the halle the day before to decorate. The food was INCREDIBLE and I was blown away by the deal they gave us! Anna Gomez, a volunteer at Beethoven’s was like having my own, personal day of wedding coordinator.
I cannot say enough good things about Beethoven’s as a venue and about the people who work and volunteer there. Beethoven’s allowed my dream wedding to become a reality!

Went there last night just to enjoy some good beers and relax on a Friday night, nothing too crazy. Nice to see they had Karbach Hefe on draft, I like that the are open to expanding an already impressive beer selection, not to mention they had Ballast Point in bottles, score! This place feels like my own little neighborhood bar, they know us, like us and are friendly. They were showing game six of the Dodger-​Cardinals NLCS baseball game which was nice. I was stationed in Germany in the Air Force and this place brings back fond memories. The bartender did us a solid and sold us three nice beer mugs for 15 bucks and refills thereafter for 4 bucks, BAM! Nice to go out to the courtyard and have a smoke and catch some fresh air. This is probably my favorite bar in all of San Antonio, this is where I take my out of town friends. Can’t say enough good things about this place, it’s a can’t miss go-​to place!

The Beethoven Maennerchor Halle und Garten is like the illegitimate lovechild of a German Gaststube and the local American Legion or VFW…
1. The tables are draped with plastic cloths of red, black, and gold!
2. There is a long bar with taps of some of my favorite German beers!
3. Little old dude with snowman socks sitting at a table watching Moby Dick (the 1956 film with Gregory Peck).
This place has it all!
As I sit with my friends enjoying an ice cold Krombacher Pils, we see the bartender. A man of small stature. Dangling from his mouth, an unlit cigar. He is friendly and attentive. I watch as he grabs a glass… fills it halfway with cola and tops it off with beer.
…yes. This fine gentleman has just made a traditional Colabier.
Suddenly, I find myself transported back to the Fatherland. The only thing missing is a big plate of currywurst and/​or schnitzel.
They regularly host a variety of events including Fasching, Oktoberfest, and Christkindlmarkt.
I will absolutely be back here for events or just when I’m in town to get my Guenther fix!

Really enjoyed their beer garden during First Friday! Prices were reasonable ($ 2 entry, $ 5 sandwich). The atmosphere was relaxed with people of every age and race present. We did had to park several blocks away, though. All of the staff (volunteers!) were extremely friendly. The German beers were also excellent, of course! If you’re looking for a relaxed and casual place to sit outdoors, this is a great choice. Cash only, but there is an ATM inside.

This is an exemplary beer garden — here’s why:
BAR — Bar Staff are friendly and offer samples of different beer and premixed cocktails. The beer is all German, meaning you are getting solely hops, barley, water, and yeast. They have about 10 on tap and are escalating to 30+ for Fiesta.
AMBIANCE — this is really what one goes to Beethoven for. Beautiful twinkly-​light trees make it fun and spirited, and the crowd, when it’s full, are loud but not crazy. Seating — indoor and outdoor for maximum comfort. The outdoor space is filled with vast picnic tables and the inside is of a very touristy German kitchen style. my favorite part is their framed picture of David Hasselhoff.
I’ve been twice on a Friday night, and in July it was hoppin but April was verify quiet at 7pm. I can’t wait to go back to this spot for a date with the Germans.

Oh, Beethoven’s. A San Antonio gem for sure.
This might be the only place I enjoy sitting shoulder to shoulder with sweaty strangers, drinking German beer (seriously, I never drink beer, much less the German kind), and doing the chicken dance all in the same night. I even learned how to polka here! Not much of it stuck with me after that night, but the blurry memories of twirling around underneath the giant, beautifully lit trees are near and dear to my heart.
I’ve brought many an out-​of-​town guest here on First Friday and recently enjoyed Oktoberfest, but my absolute favorite time to go to the bier garten is during Fiesta. Don’t miss out on this! The vibe is especially raucous.
Everyone at Beethovens is extremely friendly, so don’t be shy. Go ‘head and chow down on that messy bratwurst, make some friends in line waiting for the restroom, and don’t be shocked if you get a little Optimator spilled on you in the process. Take it in stride.
And seriously, don’t miss the chicken dance.

Great german beer garten, also a great spot to meet up with friends. The staff and patrons are always fun and interesting to talk to. This place is awesome during Fiesta and Oktoberfest. The garten is huge, with plenty of seating, and it’s bicycle friendly.

The place is supposed to be the second oldest Beer Garden in all of Texas, it got beat out be a place in Austin that’s a few months older…
There’s a 9-​pin bowling alley in the back, but it’s all shut down right now because of insurance reasons or something.
The staff here is incredibly welcoming, and the music is always right on key!

I used to sing in the Kinderchor as a kid, my grandparents have been members FOREVER, so I pretty much grew up here.
It’s a great Beer Garten and I like the bratwurst.

I don’t know why I haven’t reviewed it yet. The ambiance alone is enough to take a trip! It’s like taking a mini journey around the world with only the distance of Southtown! So I’ve been to Beethoven’s a couple of times now, both with big groups and for date nights with the hubby. Had wonderful times at each! The big outdoor space, community tables, and polka in the background always feels like we are back in Germany. And the members are always so warm and welcoming! Had some great conversations about all the things we miss, got some great tips of German restaurants, and how to become members which my husband is currently in the process of doing so.
They always have German fair for sell when open to the public (1^st Friday’s;Be sure to check the website I believe in the fall they have quiet a few events open to the public.) A great selection from pretzels to potato pancakes! Their German potato salad is one of my favorites! But most importantly they have German beer on tap! Paulaner, Spaten and Dunkel just to name a few. If you don’t like German beer which I have no clue why you’d wouldn’t they have Shiner up for grabs as well.
Cover charge is pretty cheap for non members. We’ve paid between $ 2 and $ 5 for each time we’ve came but defiantly worth it. The amazingly price on pitchers will make up for it!

If you have any love of old school beer gardens or German beer, you’ll love this place. (If not, you’ll still have a good time people watching.)
The interior of Beethoven Maennerchor is a decent old bar, which may be a bit well lit for most people. It’s the kind of place where old German guys get together to play cards while enjoying some of the bar’s fine German brews.
The best time to visit is when there’s a concert in the beer garden. That’s when Beethoven Maennerchor comes alive. You’ll find people from 5 to 80 dancing, everyone is in a good mood, and the pitchers are cold and delicious. I’ve heard everything from polkas to blues to rock & roll in the beer garden – all of it excellent.
The last time we were there, a young boy was dancing with such enthusiasm and aplomb that people started tipping him dollars in a cup. Just watching the kid was a blast, and at the end he gave the bucks to the band. It’s just that kind of place!

A pitcher of Optimator for $ 13? Consider me a happy kid.
I’m a regular patron of their first friday events. They’re often packed so it’s good to come out early, stake a claim and drink a couple of liters with your mates before they shut it down at 11:45. Make sure you have cash with you because you’ll need it to pay the cover and pay for your beers. Also for some reason San Antonio parents think bringing their children here and getting drunk in front of them is a great idea, which can be a detraction to the ambiance.

This place is usually packed when it’s a First Friday night, but unbeknownst to most, this place is also opened Tues-​Sat from 4 p.m.-midnight.
The atmosphere on FF is jubilant and festive, but on the quieter nights, it gives you a chance to take in the bar and the outdoor seating in peace.
The draft beer selection is limited but the ones they have are solid and CHEAP! You can get a pitcher of a good German beer for $ 12! Make sure you have cash, though.
The biergarten is large and picnic tables are plentiful.
If you’re touring the King William area, this is a must stop location!
