Advantage Rent A Car

I’m giving them one star because the car did not break down. That’s the good. Here’s the bad. The car I got had hail damage all over. Their two shuttle buses were broken down and they were using passenger vans to run customers to the airport. The employees really tried hard and were friendly so that’s another plus. I’m adding a star for that.

I had a really great experience with these guys. The shuttle driver, the gentleman behind the counter, and the gentleman at the exit gate were exceptional in terms of customer service. The car I’m in is very new, clean, and comfortable. Overall a great experience.

If you are on a budget and don’t need all the fancy bells and whistles then these people are your go to rental company. They hooked me up with a new mid size AWD SUV for my trip to the Grand Canyon at the same rate as a small sedan ~ 31 bucks for 3 days. I didn’t really have to haggle and didn’t have to get the sales pitch on all the insurances they scare you into buying. I’d say that was a bargain for 2000 miles of driving. I’m fixing to drive to Utah and then Yellowstone and will be using them again.

If you have an early flight… DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!
I had a 5:55 AM flight out and they do not have a shuttle until 5:30 AM. Had to pay for a hotel near the airport with a shuttle ($ 120) and this company did not reimburse me for the early return.

If I could give NEGATIVE stars I would! Horrible Horrible non-​existent customer service!
I made a reservation online for what I thought was for several months in the future but at some point going thru the process it reset the dates and I did not notice until I got the confirmation email. I immediately noticed and tried to change or cancel the reservation and it wouldn’t let me. I also immediately emailed back, emailed customer service, messaged them on FB, called and left a message as well as wait on hold for 45min before giving up! The next morning I called again and waited 35 minutes before someone answered, only for her to tell me she couldnt help me! WTF? So I had to pay for a rental car that I was not going to be there to rent! I am disputing it thru my ccard co! I will NEVER rent from these people! I now see why their rentals are so cheap!

Avoid at all costs!!! The car that we got was dirty, and like others and said the shuttle took forever to arrive. They charge two hundred dollars security deposit, which they only tell you when you pick up the car. I do I hope I get that money back. The shuttle driver yelled at us for standing up to quickly before we arrived at the curb side of the airport. Even though he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, I am pretty sure that the broken down van didn’t even have a seatbelt for the driver. This place is a joke. PS whatever you do don’t use the bathroom, it is filthy.

This place is a joke and they rent crap for cars. We reserved a mid sized car and received a van. The windshield wipers were both bad and one actually had a piece flapping. The car had NO windshield wiper fluid. The car was dirty inside and out with crusty food stuck to the front seats. The car was dented and scratched and was a bit embarrassing to drive. One of the tires was so low we needed to put air in it half way through our trip.
Basically there is NO car maintenance done to these cars! That’s scary to think about. Moral of this story, please rent else where. I wish I had read all these reviews prior to renting.

I waited almost 30 minutes while Avis, Hertz, Budget, Alamo, Enterprise shuttles go by and had to call for a freaking pickup! It says the car pickup is at the airport but that is not true. Buyer beware. They were listed on South west airlines website so I figured they must have vetted them. WRONG! On top of that they charged an additional $ 200 deposit. SW will be hearing from me. This is very bad customer service.
The counter manager was nice but he has no power to do anything to make the customer happy.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! They ripp you off. They over charge you so please read your paperwork carefully. The corporate office is no help either.

So unprofessional! Will not use them again. Make sure they tell you what they are charging your card for! When we picked up the rental the guy just kept swiping my card saying it was just for their computer information come to find out they changed me $ 500 more then was told it would be

A very bad experience I was supposed to pay $ 53 for less than 48 hours rental car and I ended up paying $ 270.00 very bad service and not much information from de person who help me at the check in, they charge me almost $ 100.00 taxes from the airport plus their own taxes, that is crazy and not correct, please do not refer or use this company becarfull they are not serious people

Horrible experience. I reserved a minivan because I needed a minivan, and when I got there to pick it up, they didn’t have a minivan. They offered me an SUV for the same price as the minivan, but I checked prices on my phone, and SUVs rent for a lot less. My husband joked that Advantage’s slogan should be, «Advantage Rent A Car, where you go to rent a car right before you go somewhere else.»

This location treated me right. The manager solved a problem for me that was caused at the Austin location. Check out process was quick and efficient. I’m taking off a star because the location is pretty far from the airport and a bit hard to get to, which means you have to leave a good amount of extra time to get to your flight. Knowing that, I would use this location again.

I used my car for an extra 8 hours and they charged me 4 times the rate they had offered me, what a rip off. Customer service was rude and offered no help. I will not be using Advantage again.

This was the worst rental experience ever. Would never rent from here again and would not recommend to anybody else. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE.
I made this rental booking through Orbitz. Orbitz said I have to pay $ 150, but these guys charged me extra $ 70. It was late in the night around 11:00 PM, they made me sign the contract and I signed it without properly verifying as I already had a long day and wanted to get to the hotel, take rest and get ready for my long day of meetings the next day. When I went back to drop the car, they had this extra $ 70 for insurance, which I did not want, I explained this to Amzi, he said he is the messenger only, it is frustrating employees like these don’t take ownership of the roles (a team member of their employer that needs to help customers that come to them trusting what they put in their website)
I talked to Amzi, he asked me to call back the next day and gave me a number to get this taken care of, I called multiple times and nobody would pick up the phone. To drop the car I had to drive round and round just to get to this place early in the morning. The reason I was willing to pay a less rental fee was to go through this pain of dropping at a place that is far away from the airport. Not only they gave me this pain, but also charged me extra and wouldn’t give me my money back.
DONT RENT FROM THIS PLACE, I WILL NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN.

Rented a car for 3 days. Total was 79 dollars.
Stupid enough to upgrade at the counter.
Was told upgrade would cost only 30 dollars.
Final bill came to 141 dollars.
Moral of the story do not ever upgrade.

Amzi did a great for me now, TWICE.
Great customer service and was able to get me in the right car at the right price.
I would definitely recommend him specifically.

I was supposed to rent a Toyota Sequoia and after we start the process they informed me that the car is not available and they offered a Jeep Cherokee instead. I let them know that we are 6 people and no way we can fit in a jeep Cherokee so the girl at the counter went in the back and I could hear her talking to the manager, then she came and told us that the car is not ready Ann we should wait in the airport and they will call is when the car is available. I asked them for a time frame and they did not tell me a time frame because they did not know when they will have the car. Meanwhile the manager never came out to express his apologies because our trip was ruined by them, nor the girl at the counter. Very very rude people. Budged rent a car stepped up and gave us an excellent car and saved our trip.
Do not rent from Advantage rent a car in Austin airport!

The policies for this company are sneaky. I arrived to pick up my car for a week, $ 181.99 total as per my reservation, but upon arriving I learn that final price is not even close to the final price. They don’t tell you that the basic insurance isn’t included in that «final» price so that’s an extra $ 129.95… Then there is the energy surcharge, customer facility charge, concession fee, city tax, state tax… So to me that quote isn’t anywhere near final. I would be fine with this if this were stated on the website… Or we were instructed to chose insurance upon pick up. But they sneak the price down so we choose their cars, but I could have gone with a more well known company for a lot cheaper.
When I called to file a customer service report, I was told it isn’t their fault since it was booked through a 3^rd party site. So now they have no responsibility over their business partners? I think AMEX travel is pretty reputable. Regardless, I won’t be using them again.
I do have to say the customer service rep and the site staff were very nice, but this company policy is unacceptable.

My husband had to travel to San Antonio for business and I decided to tag along. He works for the government so his choices for rental car companies are limited to the cheapest, enter Advantage Rent A Car.
Upon arrival, we went outside to wait for the shuttle bus to take us to the agency. We watched buses for all the other agencies pick up at least 5 times and had yet to see a shuttle for Advantage. Finally, we decided to call to confirm a shuttle was indeed running as we had been waiting in the cold drizzling rain for about 20 minutes. We were told the shuttle was on its way. After watching the other agencies buses pick up for yet another 15 minutes, we called again. This time the agent explained that there was only one shuttle running due to staff shortages. While we were on the phone this second time, after nearly a 45 minute wait, the shuttle finally arrived.
Needless to say, the shuttle was packed. People and their luggage were crammed in like sardines, but thankfully the ride was just a short way down 281. However, what that meant, was a huge line of people (mostly government travelers) at the rental counter with a shortage of agents. We waited over an hour before we were finally able to drive out the gate.
Dropping off the vehicle was a bit easier, although the address here on Unilocal is wrong. Thankfully I looked at the rental contract for the address before typing it into our GPS. If you are heading to the airport, leave yourself plenty of time as once again, there was only one shuttle bus which translates to a longer than average wait.
While the customer service agents as well as the shuttle bus drivers were friendly, I would not recommend using Advantage just due to the sheer inconvenience of the service. I am guessing the «staff shortage» is not an anomaly, but instead an everyday occurrence.
