We offer a variety of made-from-scratch Cakes, Pies, Pastries and Breads sold by pre-order and available daily for purchase at our shop. Wildflour is part of Carolina Ground Mills and loves to support our local farmers and community. Stop in and check us out or look for a loaf of our bread at many of the Ingles, Harris Teeter and other fine groceries in the area.
History
Established in 1981.
My mother (Debi Thomas) started the bread baking business in the basement of Saluda’s Orchard Inn, baking fresh bread for the Inn guests. When the demand for good, wholesome, whole-grain breads increased; the Wildflour Bakery was born. Years later, the café was added. All of my many brothers and I grew up in the business. As it is now, Mom is still master baker, supplying several groceries, restaurants and Inns in our area and, of course, the café, with the the best bread you’ll find anywhere. I now run the retail end of the business with my baby brother producing our beautifully delicious pastries. Mom always told us growing up that we should never serve a customer something that we wouldn’t serve the family and thats the standard that our team still hold tight to.
Meet the Business Owner
Debi T.
Business Owner
Debi was born in Indiana and moved to Saluda after graduating from IU. After teaching school for years, she found her love of baking bread and has been doing it for over 30 years now. With lots of passion, a knack for innovation, a strong sense of community and enough children to always have a dishwasher, she built a solid staple for the people of Saluda and all the travelers that are lucky enough to find this quaint little piece of Blueridge mountain heaven.
I feel strange writing about «Debi», it is much easier if I tell you not about Debi, but about my mother; My mom has grown this business from a little tiny seed just like she grew our family. You’ll never meet a more honest, hard working, selfless woman and she makes one heck of a loaf of bread. Love you, Mom.
