Also known as the «Big Bus Utah,» the Hop On Hop Off is an open-​air tour bus with the option to «hop-​on» and «hop-​off» at each tour stop. The bus visits 19 destinations throughout Salt Lake City, providing a convenient and affordable way to tour the city. But best to check out the time schedule online first.
I foolishly wasted about a half hour of my precious time in Salt Lake City, waiting in the hot sun at the pick-​up spot for the Hop On Hop Off bus right in front of the Salt Lake City Information Center. This was a Saturday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. and the big red sign was still up at the pick-​up spot. After nearly dropping from heat exhaustion, I decided to go in the Tourist Info Center and ask when to expect the bus? The nice gentleman told me they were done for the day! Needless to say, I was disappointed. The $ 31 it costs for the one-​day 90-​minute City Tour is a lot less that what the other local City Tours charge. But I did manage to find someone to take me on a private tour that hit all the spots on the Hop On and Hop Off and this guy who drove me also drives the Hop On Hop Off bus. He took me into the Avenues, past the beautiful churches, the Capital building, and all the important Mormon buildings that the Hop On Hop Off goes to. Also expect to see the University of Utah campus and the beautiful Red Butte Garden & Arboretum.
Because the Hop On Hop Off concept is a popular (and affordable) tour in many American and European cities, it earns 3 Unilocal STARS but because they keep their signs up without any kind of information on when the buses come and go at that particular place, I deducted 2 Unilocal STARS.
