Gallenson’s Gun Shop

Fantastic place. My wife got me a pistol for a present and they treated her with respect, made her feel comfortable and sent her home with what she wanted in a set price range.

Today I went to gallensons to pick up a firearm I had shipped to their location. I was notified via e-​mail that the firearm had arrived at the store several hours earlier. Upon my arrival I told the sales person why I was there. without asking or looking for any info for my order the salesman told me that the gun was not in the system, and that they would call me when I could pick it up. The salesman then walked away from me. I feel that this was a total lack of customer service. In my opinion the sales person could have at least got my info checked on the status of my order and given me an estimated time of when I could pick up my firearm, instead he treated me like an idiot and walked away from me. In a previos expirience shoping for a shotgun with my father, we asked the sales person a question, his responce was sharp and sarcastic. Making us, the cuatomers feel like idiots. I dont think thats a good way to get return customers. Once I get my gun I will never go back to gallensons.

My first interaction with this shop will most definitely be my last. I went with my husband who was selling his handgun. We waited 15 min to get help and finally a very slovenly looking man showed up and asked what we wanted for the gun. My husband stated the price we had been trying to sell it for… about $ 750. This was obviously negotiable because it was a used weapon and we wanted to sell it fast, but still a fair price. The guy was honest, but rude, when he said we were «hundreds» of dollars apart and then just walked away without a word. We left irritated but later returned to find out exactly what his offer would have been.
There was a woman at the counter who was very friendly and tried to get him to talk to us. I know he saw us but he went in the back and hid. Another male came and talked to us for a bit, and he was also very friendly. He stated he didn’t want to get in the middle so he needed talk to the first guy out to let us know he would be willing to offer, if anything. Male #1 never came out… we waited overall about 20 min for this guy.
Male #2 came back and said that he was told the offer would only be about $ 350 and that even with everything we would include in the sale, including an interchangeable barrel, they would only sell it for 450 because that is all it was worth. He also claimed the extra barrel offered no value. My jaw dropped and I actually wanted to ask if they were crazy. No matter what they bought it from us for, there is NO WAY they would have resold it for so little. We left offended and pissed off as a grouchy old lady at a computer behind the counter stared us down. We realized we should have left the first time and never looked back.
Now here is the important part f the story… my husband and I together have more than 10 years of working for law enforcement behind us. He was the go-​to guy if anyone needed to buy a gun or know anything about any gun out there… INCLUDING for Sgt’s and other higher ups. He was known as the «Gun Guy»…the encyclopedia of weaponry. Not only can he tell you the history, specs, and pro’s and cons of any gun… he sure as heck knows the values. We sold the gun today for $ 650. Stay the heck away from this place. There are plenty of gun shops out there who will play fair and treat you with respect.

I used to shop at Gallenson’s but I refuse to buy anything from them again. When the last gun panic Gallenson’s raised prices as quickly as they could, including doubling FFL transfer fees. I get supply and demand, however what they did NOT need to do was double prices on an FFL transfer fee to $ 60/​firearm. I got screwed paying way too much for a simple FFL transfer that was half the price a week or so before. They told me the price was raised since they could sell everything else for more money now. I try to buy local whenever I can, but I’d rather buy online instead of going there. I’ll never go back, ever and I suggest with that attitude you go somewhere else too.

I only buy my firearms from them now. Best prices and they treat me with respect. They will soon be selling cans… Great just take my money now. I rate then 5 stars, my wife none because they take all my money.

This place has the look and feel of an old time gun shop and they have a lot of guns! I think they have more than the big sporting goods/​hunting stores in the state.
I am new to owning a gun and I needed a really good kit for cleaning my shotgun. Ron was fantastic! His experience was extensive and he hooked me up with a really nice kit. Also, he recommended some parts & materials that were not in the kit. He also took the time to tell me how to clean my gun, etc…
Anyone looking at purchasing a gun, supplies, etc… Should check out this place. Their inventory is huge!

Gallenson’s has the best prices and service in the state of Utah. Their inventory of ammo is second to none.

Truly this must be Salt Lake City’s biggest gun store hands down. They have so many different kinds of things for guns, about guns, with guns, that it can be just a little overwhelming. Thank goodness for the large and helpful staff, the things I happened to be looking for were pretty well hidden and I would have never found them on my own.
The prices on firearms was fairly typical, nothing special, as a matter of fact I have beaten the price on some of their handguns at other stores right here in town. The most impressive selection that they had was in the holster section. They had concealed carry holsters, open carry holsters, holsters of all kinds, all shapes, all sizes, and for all models. I don’t think a gun is made that they did not have a holster for.
Without a doubt they had the largest selection of ammo I have seen in a gun shop in many many years. I’m not sure if they offer any quantity discounts, because there are places on the internet where their prices can be beaten. But for one stop shopping, this is quite a shop.
Highly recommended. Good to see such a large store being able to keep a downtown location open.

Gallenson’s is a good old-​fashioned American gun store. Most the other options around are big-​box type stores, which tend to just carry top sellers (read: Glocks) and make it hard to find what you need. Gallenson’s is now my first call when I’m trying to find something, because they almost always seem to have it. The other great thing about them is that they don’t price gouge. Even if they’re the only place in town that has an item in stock, they stick to fair prices. Best gun store in SLC.

I love Gallenson’s. I was a first time gun buyer when I went into Gallenson’s after I had visited a couple of places around Salt Lake. As I walked in they explained everything to me very clearly and were super helpful. They helped me find a gun that would work for me and I got a great price on it.
I highly recommend this shop! Check it out.

Good store with lots of selection in guns. They have a huge ammo selection and a fair accessories selection. Staff not very knowledgable about gun laws.
They think it is against federal law to sell long arms to non-​Utah residents. There may be a state law but when buying in person federal law does not prohibit sales to non-​residents of the state in which the long arm is bought. In person at the store they told me that they can sell to anyone in a state that borders Utah but must ship to a local FFL in states beyond. Later, because I really wanted two guns they had, I called and then they told me sales to non-​residents is absolutely illegal.
Walmart, Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, and other local gun stores in other states for which I am not a resident have sold me long arms. If it is a state law or store policy to err on the side of caution I can understand but saying it is against the law to sell rifles to non-​residents in person makes them seem uninformed.
I have bought literally a dozen or more long guns in as many states and never had a problem. If you are a Utah resident then this store is great. If you are in town from out of state then you can buy ammo and some accessories

This is an outstanding gem of a shop. They are very helpful and low pressure folks helping one to decide exactly the correct item for their needs. As an intermediate to expert life-​long firearms proponent, I highly recommend this shop for fair prices and top quality merchandise and advice. Their reloading section is second to none on know how and supply of components. If they don’t have it they will gladly order it in.
Pass on the big boys and give this shop a try you’ll be pleased.

I have been to this shop several times, and overall they are great. However, my most recent visit was really terrible… and I believe it puts my safety at risk.
I was looking to purchase a concealed carry piece and the salesman was really pushing the kahr cw40. I asked if it was a double spring or single spring– he said he thought it was a double. I asked if I could take it apart, he said no.
So, I bought the piece on their recommendation and boy am I disappointed. Not only is a single spring (they said it was double-​spring) but it is a pieces of shit!
It only fires every other time and it is completely unreliable. Gallenson’s says that it is now a used weapon and refuses to take it back… which I understand… but at least they could give me a good deal on a used piece buyback.
I am really disappointed; not only the the Gallenson’s shop but in the weapon that the salesman sold me on.
Normally, this place is great, but lately I really can’t give them any sort of recommendation.
