The Feed Trough, Feed Store

I had learned that the product called Dry Stall (used to line the stalls with) makes a great additive to your soil to improve drainage. I came into this store today and got four 40lb bags of the stuff. The young man at the register was very pleasant and polite. He and the other young man loaded the bags into my trunk for me. I appreciate good customer service and will definitely be coming back to this store in the future.

I love this store. Jennifer, who is always working when I go in, is super friendly, very knowledgeable, helpful, polite and professional. They always have what I’m looking for in stock, whether it’s bedding, supplements, hay, etc. I tried another local feed store before I found the Feed Trough, but they are not interested in delivering, or even getting back to me when I inquire about whey they can deliver. That same day I happened to drive past the Feed Trough on my way home, and popped in to check them out… and I’m very happy I did! I wanted to add to this review… I ordered 20 bags of bedding and 10 bags each of Cedar Dry and Drystall to be delivered. Shane called me at about 6:30 in the evening to let me know he was on his way to deliver. I told him that I was just heading out to pick up my son at the train station, but that I had left my feed/​tack garage door open and all the lights on for him. I came home an hour later to all of it neatly stacked in the garage… amazing customer service!!!

Hello there is a woman named Jennifer workin there. who knows more about animals than anyone. you who has horses an lives in indian springs. Sorry about your luck, try going back Jennifer is around allmost all the time. And she is the best.

In 2012, bought some straw for Halloween decoration. No problems, except my bank card came up missing and was used to buy another $ 100 of stuff at this store, after we left. I remember being apprehensive about using my card as a debit, but did so, in this case. I will use debit only rarely. Not sure how the bank card got lost, I did not dispute it in time, but a charge I know I did not make (the straw was our one and only purchase there– ever) was made to our account. Never confronted the store management and I sincerely think this is not something of which the owner would have condoned.
I worked from the age of 12 in my family’s retail business and strongly believe in small, local business. Please understand that I am writing about one experience from nearly three years previous. My bad experience may have been owing to one rogue employee– it happens. I understand that. However, I also know that it is a business’s responsibility to confirm the card holder’s identity when a credit card is used for a purchase. Or, it is safe to say that, if the unauthorized purchase was a debit, then someone, for the first time ever, hijacked my PIN (BTW-​there was no way anyone could have seen me enter it– I am meticulous about that). I offer this as a cautionary tale to both buyers and the seller. Three stars, since my experience was mixed and I cannot be certain who to blame for the unauthorized purchase. As the owner has noted about a previous response, I am not a current customer and, for all I know, my experience today may be a five star experience.
Caveat Emptor et Vendor!

We own horses at Indian Springs Ranch as well as a whole assortment of animals from guinea pigs to chickens at our Corral De Tierra home so we stop in here on a frequent basis.
I can’t recall a time where we ever came away disappointed… Hay is always in good condition, the feed is decently priced, and they have a couple grooming products and such if your in a rush and need something pronto (hoof picks, dog collars, sponges etc).
We did get the wrong breed chicken here, but that was one out of probably the 8 or so we’ve purchased here, it was also a boy instead of a girl! I expect that’s the fault of the company who they bought the chicks from though.
The cashiers are always friendly and helpful, up for a chat if you’d like one and will leave you alone if you need it too. My fiancé likes to grab and dash and my mom likes to linger a little sometimes and they both like this place.
All in all a pretty good feed store! Incidentally, we have had our question answered wrong at L. A Hearne before, but never at the trough. The employees stress that it is their opinion anyways, so when you ask their advice you should know you can take it or leave it.
Horse people all have their own opinions!

Not a huge store, but conveniently located. I can’t relate to the reviews previously posted since the customer service I’ve received has always been exceptional. My needs are based on my daughters first year in FFA. She is raising a pig and they’ve been able to answer all of our «newbie» questions. Their stock met our basic needs: rubber boots, brush, pig whip, de-​wormer, feed and shavings. They will load bulk items for you and all employees have been approachable, friendly and helpful. As daughter even received a student discount! Store is even open on Saturday. Worth a visit or phone call for any questions :)

I have never been in a pet/​feed store where NO one knows anything about anything. Young kids working who could give a rip about customer service… its a wonder that they are not robbed on a regular basis as typically there is not one person in store… eventually they will wander in from the back or the office. Not worth the aggravation. No more.

We always pass this store and finally took the leap to try it. I especially hate going into any place and not buying anything. I waste my time and others time. This place had the typical brands. When we walked in, there was no greeting. As far as prices, it’s pretty much level with every other feed store in the area.
We decided on the 30-​lb Taste of the Wild Salmon for dogs. We saw the price was $ 10.and change. The other 30-​lb Taste of the Wild were priced at around $ 54, I thought the salmon must be on sale or something. We bought it to the counter, some kid with a cowboy hat and a bejeweled belt took a second look.
Another kid walked in the store, the cowboy kid said to us «don’t listen». He talked to the kid that just walked in and said «the tag was priced for the 5-​lb bag. Under California law, they have to legally give that price as advertised, if the owner finds out he’s going to be fucking pissed». Cowboy kid looks back at us laughing, «Thanks for not listening». I thought he was going to offer us the $ 10 price, but he didn’t. He charged us the $ 54. I didn’t say anything, I was pretty astonished what he said and did. We pretty much did them a favor as there were other salmon bags marked at that price. Luck for them, we weren’t the type to argue with them. Needless to say, we won’t be customers here.

Love this feed store! Friendly staff and much better prices than Hacienda Hay and Feed where I was going before!

I have found the owners and helpers in the store to be very informative. I am no expert when it comes to chickens and critters, we have been raising our own chickens recently and they have all been purchased as chicks and raised from the help at the store. They carry a good selection of other pet food, beyond livestock, so we shop there now for that to.

I for one have nothing but GOOD to say about this store. I was very pleased with the help and service that I got from Tammy today, right from the minute I entered the store. I was buying for my grand dogs that I was dog sitting for and I wrote down what type of feed they are eating. Tammy helped me with that and also the Bully Prarie sticks. She even carried it to my car. I got back to the house and when I brought the dog food in I realized I got the puppy and not the older dogs. I called and Tammy anwered. I explained that I got the wrong one, she told me no problem, I can just bring it back. Which I did, she had the correct one waiting on the counter for me. Plus a customer even carried it out to my car for me, but I have not a doubt in my mind that if Tammy had not been waiting on others she would have agin carried it out to my car. Based on my mediocre review, Keith L. continues emailing me, going back and forth between insulting me and threatening me, trying to get me to give more stars. I am not going to give into peer pressure and lie. Also, I do know what I am talking about, having raised chickens, pigs, turkeys, cows, goats, and a pony so quit telling me to stick to donut stores.
I will say it again, it’s an ok feed store, nothing special. Don’t ask any questions, all you will get is a blank stare or bad info. The new feed store I go to has only proven this ten fold. Walk in, get your bag of whatever feed, walk out.
