History

Established in 1945.

Swenson’s Flowers was founded in 1945 by Walter «Dutch» Swenson and his wife, Bessie. In 1958, Ed Silacci joined the company as a delivery driver and in 1966 was made a partner, changing the name to Swenson & Silacci Flowers. He was inducted as a Charter Member in AIFD, the industry’s most prestigious design certification program. In 1993, Mark Silacci joined his father in the business after graduating with honors from the MBA program at Santa Clara University.

The company has experienced significant growth over the years. In 1995, they opened a second location in Monterey, CA and in 1997 launched their internet operation — www​.Online​Flow​ers​.com. Today, we are ranked as one of the «Top 50» florsits in North America by FTD.

We are widely regarded as the best florist in Monterey County. We’ve been voted the «Best Florist in Monterey County» for the past 12 years by the readers of the Monterey County Weekly and «Best Florist» for the past 10 years by the Salinas Californian.

Business Owner

I’m from Salinas, CA and grew up in the family business — and had no intentions to return! I graduated in 1987 from CSU Chico with a degree in marketing & psychology. After a couple of years working in advertising, I earned my MBA at Santa Clara University. Following graduation, I spent 2 years at HSBC in the business development group before joining my Dad in the business in 1993. Over the years, I’ve been heavily involved in the industry, sitting on advisory committees to FTD and the Society of American Florists.

I’ve been married for 14 years to my wife Lisa and we have 4 great children — Gianna, Nico, Joe & Dean.
