History

Established in 1938.

Ramon Renov founded the school in 1938 after a career with the Ballets Russe de Monte Carlo. He taught ballet & tap to children & adults until 1980 when he turned over the studio to Lisa Eisemann. Lisa danced at the studio from the age of three and studied abroad and in the U.S. She traveled to England, Ireland, France, Canada and around the U.S. The studio has always had a tradition of Russian style ballet and it now also teaches tap, jazz, Irish dance and Bollywood. The Spirit of Salinas Irish Dance Company performs year round in the tri-​county area and dancers have been to Ireland to compete.

The Salinas Valley Civic Ballet Company brings pre-​professional opportunities for local youth and classes are available for children from the age of 2−½ and up through adults. Adults can take tap classes and there is a program for Tappin’ Dads who learn to tap with their daughters and perform in shows. Terrin Eisemann, Lisa’s daughter, runs the office and teaches beginning students.

Business Owner

Lisa Eisemann was born and raised in Salinas to parents who were folk and ballet dancers. She studied with Ramon Renov and took over the studio upon his retirement. She holds degrees in Criminology and is a licensed private investigator and the author of six books about crime in Salinas. Lisa took over the studio in 1980 and built it into a modern studio for children and adults to study ballet, tap, jazz and Irish dance. Her dance companies are highly regarded and their productions are stunning. She and her dancers have been to Ireland and Russia to study and compete. Her daughter, Terrin, now runs the studio office and teaches the beginning level children.

My child went here for a few months a year or two ago. The owner was one of the least courteous and cold people I have ever met. Even when my husband and I went in to say we were thinking about signing my child up the owner was slightly rude and short when speaking to us. We joined because we did not know there was another dance school in the area. After a few month of being treated as if they were doing us a favor rather than welcoming us into the community we left the school. I would never recommend this school to a friend that wanted to introduce their child to dance. It is not a warm or friendly place at all; quite the opposite actually.

My daughter joined shortly after her 3rd birthday. She has enjoyed it. She was nervous the first couple of times but the staff knew how to help her ease into it. They made sure to keep it fun. I appreciated that. My daughter continued attending and ended up participating in the recital. I was very proud. She had come a long way. She is now taking a break but asks to go back soon! Looking forward to enrolling her again.

Absolutely amazing studio! Friendly staff! Teachers are amazing with every student. Safe environment for all ages. Cute shop that has all accessories needed for dance.

The Salinas School of Dance has been an amazing part of my daughter’s life. She has been dancing there since she was 3 years old and is now 12. The poise, grace and confidence that my daughter is partially due to her experiences here. The staff has always been more than helpful and the owner is a wonderful instructor, director and roll model for all that have the pleasure of meeting her.
I have never seen or heard of any incidents of «laying hands», as reported by another Unilocaler, in all of the years my daughter has been studying there. The owner and her staff go above and beyond to keep the children safe while in their care for classes. If anything the owner and staff have the patience of saints when dealing with occationally fussy children and more often than not difficult parents.

My daughter has danced with the Salinas School of Dance for the past 10 years. We have the highest respect for the studio owner and teachers. My daughter started out shy and scared of everyone; because she was not treated like a baby, but a developing young lady, she has grown into a confident, graceful, and talented dancer.
Since moving in July, we have not been able to find a studio with the same high standards, traditional Russian technique, and attitude towards dance as self-​improvement and self-​discipline.
As a credit to the studio owner and her teacher, all four of the dancers that auditioned for the American School of Ballet summer intensive were all accepted into the program!

The staff here is awesome! My daughter, Alexa loves coming here. She gets up super early on sat mornings to start getting ready to head over to class. Once we get home she starts doing the steps she has learned at SSOD non stop. I can tell she loves this place and her teachers.

My little sister went here for a little while and she loved it, she was only 2 years old at the time but a year and a half later she can’t stop talk about wanting to go back. They treat the kids great and it’s good social time as well. I highly recommend this dance studio

Great place of children to learn dance, with a variety of dance classes for all ages the Salinas School of Dance is the best choice for you. The Salinas School of Dance provides dance classes as reasonable prices for children as young as two years old. Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Irish dance classes, the SSOD community is friendly and family run. The SSOD provides classes in Spanish as well as English and French. SSOD also offers parties in the studio for birthdays!
The Salinas Civic Ballet Company and The Spirit of Salinas Irish Dancers preform year round for events such as: birthdays, church events, private parties, schools and much more. These young dancers are skilled and enjoy dancing for large crowds.
