Susanna hails from Yerevan, Armenia where she first learned the art of sewing and design from her mother at twelve years old. Since moving to America twenty years ago, she worked professionally in the fields of jewelry and fashion. After decades of tailoring and designing clothes for her family and friends, Susanna decided to take her passion to the next level and launched Susanna’s Custom Design & Alterations in Downtown Salem in Sept of 2007. What customers love best are her enthusiasm, creativity, exquisite detailing and of course, her undeniable expertise will ensure her success for many more decades to come.

Nice job hemming my new and fancy shower curtain. Took a few days longer than the original date told to me, but that can happen here, since the owner is extremely busy.
She is very precise with her work.
The cost of hemming one shower curtain was $ 25, almost less than what I spent on the curtain itself, but I got it on sale at Macy’s.
Then I wanted to have my pretty white lace curtains hemmed, but $ 25 each for one set was $ 50, and the other set was a more complex fix, so that set would have been $ 35 each, so $ 70 for the 2nd set. $ 50 plus $ 70 = $ 120… I decided not to have them hemmed even though they are unique, and was able to work out something with one of the sets on my own. But this gives you an idea of the cost of a talented seamstress in the Salem center neighborhood.
I wish the dry cleaners on Essex st had a part time tailor as well, but they do not, and when calling they referred me to Susanna who is often very booked. She is going on vacation soon as well.

My puppy used a brand new Vera Bradley handbag as a chew toy so I brought it to Susanna’s for repair. I paid — up front — a reasonable $ 35 to replace the zipper and repair one of the handles. I was told the bag would be ready the following Wednesday, a week after I dropped it off. After a busy week, I didn’t make it back to the shop until Saturday morning. It wasn’t done. The job wasn’t even started and this was four days after it was supposed to have been finished. I received an immediate refund and have vowed never, ever to step foot in such an unprofessional, disreputable business again. Stay away.

Talented, inspirational woman and tailor. Strike up a conversation with her… you won’t be sorry you did.
I like my jeans hemmed longer than she typically does them. If you do too, make sure to pay attention so you get what your want. If you do, they come our great! She’s even patched my split pants amazingly!

Susanna is an exceptionally talented designer. She has made custom dresses for me for years, made window treatments for my business, beautiful Halloween costumes not to mention the numerous hemming & alterations. She has a witty, uplifting personality, super hard worker and the work is always on time if not earlier. She even came in on her day off to accommodate my schedule because I was leaving for a trip. I highly HIGHLY recommend Susanna’s Custom Design & Alterations in Salem, MA.

Susanna altered my Mother’s dress for my wedding as well as my wedding dress. Both dresses fit great and didn’t appear to be altered at all. Her prices were quite reasonable. Susanna works very hard on her alterations, and I feel really knows what she’s doing. She met all my deadlines early and was quite a fun lady to talk to (especially about her adorable Pomeranians). If I need another item altered, I will be sure to return here. Thank you!!!

I have used Susanna multiple times, she’s very good at what she does and always makes sure you’re happy. She has done pants, jeans and skirts for me and she’s currently doing my wedding dress. I would definitely recommend her.

When I first walked in to Susanna’s I was weary of how things would be as the shop wasn’t anything nice and she can be somewhat abrupt.
It cost me $ 80 to have a dress altered that only cost me $ 40 (on sale). She requires that you pay up front but she accepts cards, cash and check (cash preferred of course). I’m not sure if this is standard pricing as I don’t have clothes altered very often.
It only took her a week to get the dress done. She was on time and it fit perfectly and you couldn’t tell she had even touched it. Pricey — but perfect!
I would definitely trust Susanna to alter my clothing again.
