Suite Dog Daze

This place is great and Lisa has such a priority for pet safety. Staff is well trained and you can tell they take great pride in caring for your pets.

I am involved with a group of people who do informal rescue of dogs whose time is up at various animal control facilities. When we cannot find a foster home we pay to board the dogs we have rescued until a foster or permanent forever home can be found. We had been told about Suite Dog Daze and took one of our rescue dogs there. It was a possibility that at the end of a month if we didn’t have a foster or adopter that he MIGHT be taken into the rescue program at Suite Dog Daze.
It was difficult if not impossible to have any direct communication with Suite Dog Daze. Lisa was never available and the employees always said that we would have to speak with Lisa to get our questions answered. Emails went unanswered and phone calls were not returned.
Our rescue dog was brought to Suite Dog Daze with anti anxiety medication prescribed by his veterinarian. We repeatedly asked Lisa if a refill was needed and did not get a response. We also asked before taking him there what kind of training methods were used and we were assured that only positive reinforcement was used with the dogs.
Finally, after a complete lack of response we drove from Portland to Suite Dog Daze to check on our rescue dog. An employee who was at the desk was at the very least honest with us although we were shocked and saddened. We were told that our rescue boy had been subjected to training with an electronic shock collar (something that we disapprove of, were not informed of, and is viewed negatively by certified Animal Behavior Specialists). We were also told that Lisa, the owner of Suite Dog Daze, in direct contradiction of a veterinarians prescription and without informing us, had unilaterally decided to not give our rescue boy any of the medications that had been brought with him.
I asked to see our rescue dog. I was taken to a small room that was filled with various sized portable kennels (not indoor outdoor runs that are used at every other boarding kennel I’ve seen). The lights were off in the room, it was pitch dark. There were 3 dogs in the room each in their own kennel. There were no toys, NO beds and NO water in the any of the dog’s kennel enclosures and of course there was no access for them to be able to potty outside.
Lisa, the owner of Suite Dog Daze calls herself a behaviorist on their website. That is false.
She is not a behaviorist and does not have the required education and experience needed to call herself a behaviorist (see the Animal Behavior Society site to see the requirements for legally calling oneself a behaviorist). She also doesn’t even have any certification as a trainer from any of the accredited training organizations. It is a scam when she states that she is a behaviorist.
When we expressed our dismay and disgust to Lisa about how our rescue dog was treated at her facility — she went on the offensive. She even kicked our dog out — which was laughable as we immediately came home and began making arrangements to place him somewhere safe where he would not be shocked and would be given the medications his veterinarian had prescribed for him. She also began to change the charges for his stay. A month had been pre-​paid, but Lisa said that now because he was not going to be going into her rescue program the $ 594/​month charge was not valid and we owed more money.
The whole experience was a nightmare for us, but most importantly for the poor dog we brought to Suite Dog Daze.

I have had a couple of bad experiences with boarding my two large dogs, so I knew what to watch out for when I dropped them off here. The facility is beautiful, the kennels are nice and big and there are several play yards for the dogs to get exercise. They have a daily schedule with their play times, feedings and even nap times planned out. I was also super impressed with how well I was updated throughout my pooch’s stay. Several Facebook posts per day with lots of photos of the dogs. I also liked that they were promoting Earthborn products, easy walkers and gentle leaders as well as other natural and healthy treats.
Also, my boxer tends to have fearful tendencies and insecurity problems but Lisa was able to get him out and happily playing with all of the dogs. You can truly tell that she genuinely cares about the well being of the pets in her care. I will never use another boarding facility again.

We had a great experience with our golden doodles recent 3 night stay. I appreciate the pictures on fb and email updates as he is not use to being away from me overnight. We also had him groomed and he came back looking very handsome. My husband said he slept in the car all the way home and slept all evening. I can see by the videos he had great fun. Suite Dog Daze is not your usual doggy day care. It’s something different and its one of a kind.
The facility has several secure fenced areas. One being over an acre! Dogs are able to run, play, swim, and just be dogs! It’s like summer camp for dogs! Yes, they wrestle. Yes, they romp. Yes, they play «pack» (team) activities. Yes, at the end of the day they are tired. A tired dog is a happy dog, so I’m happy with that!
I have read these reviews and I certainly have my concerns about some risks with having such a large place to play. But I have no worries that my dog is gonna have fun at Suite Dog Daze!
If you want your dog to get to experience a dog life, then this is a great thing. If you want your dog to stay in a kennel all day and be walked just long enough to pee, then this is not the place.
If I had kids and they were going to summer camp, I would rather them have fun and get dirty, then leave them in a room with a box of crayons and paper.
I feel the same way about my dogs!

Good experiences with doggy day care but we’ve stopped going after not feeling satisfied with an overnight stay. While I was out of town, I received a group/​generic email about a kennel cough exposure in the facility. I felt confident as I had just gotten a booster for my dog (as you should every 6 months when due to high exposure risks like dog parks and kennels). However, I felt the customer satisfaction piece was missing. Not only did I get to stress over my dogs health, I didn’t feel well informed about how she was doing. I never received a personal call or email. When I expressed my frustrations to Lisa, I was given excuses and no validation. I know there are good intentions here, but the business aspect sorely needs some work. Apologizing and validating will go so much further with customer relations.

I was in a bind and Suite Dog Daze was one of the few places that had availability for a few weekends I knew I was going to be out of town in May. I have a border collie and there were border collie pictures all over their website (the owner has a couple border collies of her own) so I thought it was a perfect match.
When I stopped in to see the place, I told the owner that my pup had gotten out of the previous boarding place and was found, luckily, by a good Samaritan a mile or so away safe and sound. Because of that, I was looking for a place that offered a lot of activity for my dog in a relatively cageless boarding experience, while under close supervision. I asked if the dogs were ever left unattended at Suite Dog Daze and was told that they were always supervised when they were out of their kennel. Problem solved right?
That weekend, I drop my dog off and was assured that he was in good hands. The next day, I was home for my brother’s wedding. A couple of hours before the ceremony I received a call from someone saying she found my dog about 3 miles away from Suite Dog Daze!
I called the kennel and was told they had been looking for him for about an hour so I gave them phone number of the lady who had my dog. As you can imagine, I was surprised that my dog could get so far away while being under constant supervision.
While waiting at the airport the next day to fly home, I had nothing else to do so was watching the dog cam and saw the handler feed my dog 2 cups of food for ‘lunch’ when I specifically told them not to. I only wanted him fed in the morning and at night.
Naturally, I was a little upset when I picked up my pup the following day. Hoping for an apology at the very least, I was greeted by the owner who proceeded to downplay their mistake. Actually, she didn’t even acknowledge that they put my dog in an extremely dangerous situation until I brought it up. She said ‘mistakes happen’ and ‘we are not perfect’ more than any form of an apology for the egregious mistake they made!
(Apparently the dog handler put the dogs out for breakfast and left them unattended. It must have been for a long time because my dog had enough time to dig underneath the fence to escape.)
I picked my dog up a day early and wasn’t even credited the extra day’s boarding fee until I asked for it. To top it all off, as I was leaving she acted like nothing had happened and expected me to bring my dog back the following weekend!
I’m lucky that my dog didn’t get hit by a car considering the kennel is located on a pretty busy street. Maybe I caught them on a bad day or they just weren’t on their game, but the way they handled the entire situation was shockingly bad.
**To clarify a few things… I specifically asked the owner before I brought my dog in about the damage portion of her contract. She told me something along the lines of «some dogs have done some pretty extensive damage to our facility but she has never charged for it. It was just a cost of doing business so don’t worry about it.» (I did my due diligence to read the contract and asked questions about things I was concerned about. I got the answer I wanted to hear so it could be thrown in my face later)
**Yes, I was offered an apology over the phone by someone at the facility (not the owner) AFTER I called Suite Dog Dayz to see what happened to my dog. The random person who found my dog called me before I heard anything from the kennel. I would have expected to get a call when my dog got away from the kennel, not hear it from someone else. The apology I received by the owner when I picked up my dog was half-​hearted and full of excuses, similar to her response to my negative review on this site.
**Lastly, I had a pretty detailed conversation with THE OWNER before I brought my dog in for boarding about his ability to get out of fenced in areas. Because of that, I was assured (like I already stated) the he would never be left unattended when he was outside. How is this my fault?
All that being said, I understand people and businesses can make mistakes. What I cannot understand or respect is how the owner refuses to own up to her company’s mistakes. Why not just apologize and not offer a laundry list of excuses?

I was looking for a facility to board my dog for vacation and into the future, and was so excited when I found this business. After speaking with the owner, and receiving a specific quote over the phone, I decided to go forth and board my dog for 8 days. When I arrived to drop him off, no one in the staff knew that we were coming in that day, and were not updated on the price that was offered to me over the phone. After leaving the facility and checking my accounts the next day, I learned that I had been over charged for everything. I made several attempts to call, with no response from anyone.
When picking up my dog after my vacation, the employees were 15 minutes late to open the facility. My dog had bite marks all over his face, with one large gash which was an open wound and was extremely swollen. Additionally he had what I later found out was kennel cough, which I understand is common if there are many dogs, but the employees said nothing about these conditions.
I called the next day in hopes to get some answers, and was told that I would receive a call back from the owner. It wasn’t until Wednesday the next week that I received a phone call, and everything that I asked for answers on had an excuse and there was no solution other than that I would not recommend this facility for boarding and sadly I won’t be returning.

We drove there 3 times during business hours trying to see the facilities and there was no one there except barking dogs.
We tried leaving messages on their phone and they don’t bother returning phone calls.
How can any reviewer say their dog spent the whole day playing and going on walks? What a fake!

I was driving up to talk to these people about possibly taking care of my dog. Their web page looked really good. There were 2 dogs running off leash on the dirt road on the way to the building. The dogs were not coming. They could have been hurt. I drove away. Just posting to save you from a drive way out of town.

This should be «sweet» vs «suite» because the people that run this facility are so warm and kind to owners and their dogs. After looking at another facility that felt more like a dog pound, I took my chances on this place in hopes of finding a smaller, more intimate non-​pound like boarding place for our dog, who we rescued from a pound 4 years ago. The owners and other people who manage here obviously love what they do. The dogs have scheduled meals, long 45 minute walks around the property that sits on several acres, play time with other dogs in a covered and clean area and a nice cozy warm room for sleeping/​napping in their own kennel suites. I also loved how you could watch your dog play on doggy cam video they had set up for you to log onto from your computer. They also groomed our pup for a reasonable amount. What we also loved was how they were in close communication with us on how of furry family member was doing. I can’t say enough of how much we loved this place and know that we now have a great board and care for our dog to go to when we need to go out of town.

I put a lot of thought and research into choosing a daycare for our dog, and I’m so glad we went with Suite Dog Daze! I really wanted some place that wouldn’t make our dog feel like she was going back to the animal control center. Our dog spent the whole day playing and going on walks. They spend very little time in kennels here. I loved seeing our dog in Facebook updates throughout the day. We have since been back for Lisa’s training classes, and she does a great job! We highly recommend Suite Dog Daze!
