Shilo Inn Suites

This hotel is a little dated but otherwise is clean and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and everything in the room worked. It would be nice if they could get rid of the tube type tv’s and switch to flat screen but that is a minor issue. I’d also like to see more fruit selections at breakfast and my wife prefers half and half for her coffee which you can usually get. I recommend this as a good stopover, especially considering the price!

This was truly one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had in a hotel. We booked a room with a king bed and a pullout hide-​a-​bed for our two boys. When we arrived, the room had two pillows. When we asked for two more, we were told that they were out. Not only were they out, but the girl at the front desk couldn’t be bothered to double-​check for us. I don’t know about everyone else, but for me, a pillow is something that I expect as a basic, bottom line given when I pay $ 85 for a hotel room. The kids ended up sleeping on their sweatshirts. When I mentioned it at the front desk the next morning, the morning crew didn’t seem concerned either. They told me I was welcomed to ‘speak to corporate.’ Later, as we were driving away, my husband showed me a bunch of little new bites all along his arms… BED BUGS??? Don’t stay here!!!

We booked this location based on the Orbitz reviews and competitive price for a single king suite. However, during our two-​week trip around Oregon and Washington, I can comfortably say that this location was disappointing on many levels.
The suite featured a ‘separate’ room with a sofa (pull-​out bed) and minibar plus table and chairs, blocked off from the main sleeping quarters by a half-​wall and glass partition. What this did nicely was block off the a/​c (which was subpar anyway) from getting to the people trying to sleep in the room during a major Oregon heat wave. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, the sofa in the suite area had lots of rips and tears all over the upholstery which made me embarrassed for the managers of this location, and though there were two tvs in the room (1 in the main sleeping area and 1 in the ‘suite’ area) they were both old-​school CRTs, not even with a good screen — 22″ at best in the suite area which had the larger one, and ~20″ in the main sleeping area.
Patrons in the hotel were somewhat obnoxious and it was probably the only place where I had more concerns about my personal safety in the hotel than outside of it. The pool seemed to be a huge draw for those staying in the hotel, but we did not partake. Another patron complained that her daughter had gotten stuck in the elevator for awhile even though we had no issues with it. There was a huge push for folks to park in the hotel spaces only, but they were located behind the hotel itself, and the door leading from the parking area to the hotel interior was unmarked and required a keycard. So if you check out, make sure you take your stuff to your car first, then drop your key off afterwards. Pretty obnoxious. If we find ourselves in Salem again, we’ll stay somewhere else.

PROS: lean spacious, beautiful room, clean rug, clean bedding, nice shower. Very reasonable.$ 72. incl tax.
CONS: the bed was too firm, pillows too full, blowdryer didn’t work, stool caster kept falling off, elevator was unusually slow (was told a lady was stuck in elevator last wk for 45 min), breakfast was BAD. they were out of coffee, danishes, and cup lids (I had tea).

Well like other people are saying it’s not the greatest place in the world but it certainly is not the worst that’s part would be reserved for Motel 6 The room we had was very large which I was thankful for some of the negatives were the elevator was quite slow at the pool and Jacuzzi is an absolute wreck as is the gym or lack of also they need to spend a little bit of money and upgrade the TV I mean come on how much is a flatscreen cost The hotel is serious need of updating on the positive side the staff is nice and friendly and helpful The continental breakfast was not bad what you would expect would I stay here again if I was on a budget maybe if I’m not no I don’t think I would I think I would rather pay a little bit more money and stay at a nicer hotel on a related issue seriously what the hell happened to the Motel 6 what a bunch of dumps there are

So after reading the reviews on here I was not so sure it was going to be that great of a hotel. As someone that is using the hotel mainly for sleeping and not hanging out in, I would say it is absolutely fabulous! It is clean, huge room, very affordable, and the people are very nice. I would totally stay here again.

Absolutely nasty. holes in upholstery covered with patches of cloth fastened with push pins. Antique televisions with poor reception. Chairs are filthy– especially in the crotch area. Breakfast is a collection of packaged items in the lobby. The building should be demolished. Worth no more than $ 45. I paid twice that and feel like an idiot for doing so. Oh, the elevator is really small and dirty!

The old «you get what you pay for» saying holds true. It’s not fancy or very «new» feeling. The chair in the room is torn and worn. Floor tiles cracked and old. But it is very big. The breakfast wasn’t bad but no seating for groups over 4. My biggest critique is probably the box TV. Get some 32″ LCDs for your rooms they are beyond cheap these days. This place just needs some TLC. Would stay again if I needed to.

Centrally located for the town and that is nice, for the price though I could have stayed at nicer places. This hotel is very dated, the tv has to be the same tube tv they put in when this place was built.
The room was very clean, and the staff was pleasant.

This hotel is very dated. The rooms are very nice size but again everything is rather dated in worn. There’s only one elevator and it only has one speed and that is extremely horribly slow. While the rooms are dated and showing their Ainge the housekeeping seems to keep the rooms very clean. Usually hotels have a packet in the room that tells you about the hotel and the surrounding area this hotel has nothing. Oh they did have a Bible. The front desk staff was very friendly and more than accommodating. The key to my room never seem to work and I would always have the front desk staff accompanied me to make sure the new key would work. Salem doesn’t have any real nice hotels overall I think this is probably the best for the money. I will be staying here again.

Walked into the room and had to go ‘Wow!’ Great room with a beautiful sketched glass of the Capitol. Two TV s and very spacious Almost home restraint and others right in parking lot. Pretty lobby and eating area. Been in several hotels during our vacation here in Oregon and this one is definitely one of my favorites.

Yes, folks the beds are made of genuine cement. Good luck getting a night’s rest on them. Also the maintence man was grumpy, complaining to the guests about his job and the management in the breakfast room. That really doesn’t go over too well when he closed the pool for maintence reasons, and he chooses to stand around and complain vs. doing his job and getting it fixed. Boo!

This hotel is great for the money. The rooms are huge and nicely furnished. The location is great with restaurants nearby. Our room was quiet and staff very friendly. The only drawback was the breakfast which was just adequate.

My favorite spot for a great room at a great rate, while in Salem ! Wide arrange of breakfast options included and if that’s not your thing there are quite a few of the best slots in town within a stones throw.

The hotel is not that bad. The front desk person however was less than friendly. First of all she had Fox News on in the lobby. I don’t care what your views are but the hotel lobby should be neutral territory. When asked about the Unilocal check in discount she replied «what is Unilocal?» Really??? Then she refused to to give it to me… I asked to see the room before paying she complied. When I returned I told her my husband was going to unload the car. She told me that he could not do that until I had paid for the room. I was in the process of checking in and he wanted to bring bags into the lobby via the arming lot door… And she had an issue with that… two words FOX NEWS!
OAN. My husband reports that the high speed Internet is high speed for Antarctica maybe.
The pool was warm

We were staying in Salem one night before heading to the Oregon Coast for a few days. We found this location on Expedia and the rate was just what we were willing to pay.
Upon arrival, the lobby smelled musty and I was like — oh boy, what did I get us into. The staff was friendly and our room was ready 3 hours before check-​in. That was nice. The elevator is S-​L-​O-​W. I overheard someone in the elevator share that they were stuck but it was because there were 10 people in it and it should only hold 6.
Our room was spacious. King size bed with a separate sitting room separated by a wall. In the sitting area was a mini bar type set up – microwave, sink, and fridge. They had two televisions but they were OLD. I haven’t seen a TV like that in years.
The room was clean but the furniture was definitely worn. The sink was outside the bathroom (um – kind of weird to me) and there was a phone in the bathroom right next to the toilet… gross.
The hotel had free wifi and a free continental breakfast. It was close to the hotel and to downtown Salem. It’s within minutes to Pietro’s, McDonalds, and a couple of other restaurants.
My only real negative thing was that one of the televisions failed to turn on. I called the front desk twice and the gal (who sounded really nice on the phone) said that she would talk to her manager and get back to me… never did. Ok, I lied. The other negative thing was that they couldn’t print me a receipt but offered to email it to me. It’s been four days since we left and I didn’t get an email. The charge went through accurately (I checked my credit card) so at least I know they didn’t try to add any crazy charges.
Would we stay there again? Maybe… if it was just one night but we would definitely check out the other ones too.

I would give the Salem Shilo Inn less than one star if possible. This is not only a dated, musty, uncomfortable place to stay but the staff are rude and the hotel management placed a $ 400 fraudulent charge on my credit card on the day I checked out. I stayed in this hotel for 5 days because I was attending a conference there. I have a long list of inappropriate things that the staff did during my stay there. This list includes walking by me and going into the back office and sitting down when I came to the front desk to check in, rolling their eyes at me and telling me to «wait over there» when I asked if they had a plastic spoon I could have, and a group of house keeping staff keeping the only elevator on a floor for more than 5 minutes and all of the guest waiting and listening to their group conversation. None of this compares to the $ 400 fraudulent charge that was posted on my credit card. When I called hotel management they denied the charge had been made and told me I would have to send them my bank records. When I pressed further they said they called their credit carrier and that no charge had been made. I called my credit card to dispute the charge. Then when speaking to the hotel again they said they never called their credit carrier. I got horrible service, fraudulent charges, and a series of lies. Fortunately I was able to get the $ 400 removed from my credit card. I would recommend running from this Hotel. If your conference is booked there stay somewhere else.

The only reason we stayed at this place is because we were in town for the Washington @ Oregon State football game in Corvallis. All the hotel options in Corvallis were booked up, so Salem was our next best bet for lodging.
We landed on the Shilo Inn Suites based on their low rates and availability. The two perks this hotel offers are large rooms and free breakfast. We had issues with the cleanliness of their beds and also the comfort. The comforter and sheets were dirty when we arrived, which led to an uncomfortable introduction. Since the place was so affordable, we kinda gave them a pass.
The best part about our stay was running into the «Husky Honks» from KJR in Seattle.

If you’re looking for a clean hotel with nice rooms and a decent continental breakfast; this place is up your alley… but there are a few things you should know.
1. The sign says 6 people per elevator. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. You will get stuck. Better yet, just take the stairs. You’ll get there faster anyway because, even when it is working, the elevator is pretty darn slow.
2. There is not a convenience store nearby and the hotel has no food vending machines. Pack in your snacks or prepare to drive for food.
3. There will probably be 10 – 12 rowdy teenagers with no parents in the pool and hot tub. Don’t plan on relaxing.
4. The front desk probably won’t pick up the phone after 11pm. Remember to get the extra pillow you’ll need when you check in.
5. You’re right by Pietro’s Pizza which rocks. Have fun!

Salem’s Shilo Inn isn’t a bad place to stay. We were in town for a funeral and they had a special bereavement rate ($ 68 I believe), which was nice.
The lobby smells harshly of chlorine, caused by its close proximity to the pool. I’ve smelled worse in hotel lobbies, but it was a little overpowering. The youngsters running the desk gave us a key to the wrong room and didn’t have any dining suggestions in the area (ended up stumbling upon Geppetto’s down the way… the pizza was just amazing). Not a huge deal, but it was a strike against them.
The rooms were clean and spacious… no problems there.
Overall we had a fine stay. Also to be noted: Breakfast offered fresh waffles, and there was a computer and printer in the lobby.
