UPDATED2015: The family has been coming to Schlechter Farms’ produce stand weekly, mid– July through the first freeze in October, since 2000. Frankly, Jim and Connie Schlechter have ruined us for other people’s sweet corn. Today, I bought eight ears for $ 2.75, and it is soooo gooood! I laugh when I see Bobby Flay or the other celebrity chefs futzing with elaborate butter or mayonnaise based toppings. All I can figure is, their corn isn’t very good. The Schlechter’s corn is so super-sweet, you can eat it raw … but I like to shuck it and roast in on the grill for four– or six-minutes, just enough to get a light caramelization. Man, that is good eating! And the Schlechter’s sell not just sweet corn, but all the seasonal produce, fresh from the field. I couldn’t remember them all, but I filled in the gaps from their web site: Bell Peppers, Chili Peppers(four or five varieties), Cucumbers, Zucchini, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Plums, Green Beans, Onions(Green, Red and Yellow), Squash(Butternut, Acorn, Delicata and Spaghetti), Melons(including Honey Dew and Cantaloupe), Cauliflower, and several varieties of Pumpkins. Whew! There is a … wholesomeness … that comes from buying produce from the folks that work hard to grow the food, especially to a city boy like me. It is nice to look them in the eye, and tell them Thank You! I find the prices better than in local super markets, and Connie Schlechter is always happy to talk about the best way to prepare Figs, Lemon Cucumbers, or what ever is in season at the moment. Five Stars, I wish I could make it six!

Great vegetable selection: super-sweet yellow and white corn, onions, bell peppers, chilies, cucumbers, melons, squash, plums and more. Excellent prices and everything is grown right there on the farm.
