My wife and I love this place, and we would hate to see it go! We’re big fans of the quesadilla, and the great drinks. Thanks for staying the most affordable theater in town!

Northern Lights has always been my favorite place to catch a movie in Salem. It’s only $ 3 for the movie and the food items are all reasonably priced. So for the price it costs to see a movie at Regal, at Northern Lights you can get a meal out of the deal too. I love the popcorn here and all the meals I’ve gotten here have been good too. Oh! And there desserts are delicious! Keep in mind that if the movie is a popular one, you’ll need to get there pretty early.

I enjoy Northern Lights for an inexpensive date night with my husband every once in a while. $ 3 movies are great!
I wish they served beer in actual glass pint glasses and not plastic soda cups.

I generally like going to movies here. The food is good, the staff friendly. The down side is that the seats are old and narrow and the air conditioning is LOUD. That said, I usually enjoy my movie-​going experience.
So, now for a cautionary note: if a movie starts AT 6:30 and you don’t want the distraction of children, choose a different day with a later time. Mind you, I have four children. I am used to seeing movies and being distracted AT HOME.
We recently went to see Sicaro. Given that the movie time was 6:30 and it is a rated-​R movie, I was extremely surprised to see a 12-​year old in the row ahead of me and then just plain annoyed to hear a baby behind me when the movie began. The 12-​year-​old was in-​and-​out of her seat and the baby whined. The parent of the baby only took the child out when it really began to cry. First, who would take a child to a movie like that? Second, why were they allowed by the theater. I realize that the stipulation is «after 6:30.» My suggestion to the theater? Change the movie time to 6:31, for Pete’s sake.
If you are an adult movie-​goer and the environment during the movie matters, pay STRICT attention to the show times and you should have a pleasant experience.

Old theater good prices and ok food; somehow that combination is much more awesome than it appears to be.

After going to cinabarre I was skeptical about these theaters you could have a beer and movie, but was very please with this place. Loved the price, beer, and ice cream. I did take a star away because it was way too hot in the theater.

Not a great first experience. Tried to buy tickets online and the site said failed transaction, yet my card was still charged. Went to the the theater and they found no record of my transaction. The girl at the counter just gave me passes to get in. Kudos to her for that. Ordered from the snack bar… took 45 minutes to get a sundae. Seems like a bit long for some ice cream. All and all for the price, I’ll try them again.

Great place to watch a movie & grabbing a bite to eat.

I’ve never ordered food here, because I’m cheap. The $ 3 movies are the reason I go. The projection is good, the sound is good (sometimes a little loud) and it’s clean enough not to be grossed out by anything. The seats are not so comfortable, they kind of tip forward. I usually sit on my jacket if I have one.

I love coming here. The food is decent and they treat their customers well.

I saw stand up comedy here as part of my bridal shower (aren’t my girls awesome!?) super funny and only for $ 10 and reasonably priced wine and beer! I want to go again!

I guess this place is A-​OK. first time here a few weeks back, so didn’t know what to expect. very cramped in the lobby, where you can order food and wait in line for the movie doors to open. once inside the actual theater, there are rows of tables and movie theater chairs. luckily my party of 6 all got to sit together, but that was after having to «save» seats and reject multiple people, as the showing was sold out. the big negative was that there was some lighting on during whole movie, so servers could see where they were going. i understand that they need to see, but it was too light inside. the sound system was HORRIBLE, they needed to crank it up. BUT for $ 3 a head, you can’t really complain.

This place is like finding a oasis in a desert that serves incredibly delicious two handed Santa Fe steak burritos and shows movies for $ 3!!! SERIOUSLY!!! WHAT??? I can fill my tank with delicious freshly prepared restaurant quality food while drinking a delicious micro-​brew and watching a movie and all for less than the price of a ticket, a lousy pop-​corn and some stale frozen chicken nuggets at «the big theater»… Northern lights rocks my world… Over, and over again. The staff are helpful! The food is delicious! They even have PURSE HOOKS!!! (If you’re into that kind of thing) this is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got something good. Just knowing about northern lights will bolster your confidence when showing someone around Salem… It’s my «ace in the hole» it’s the «trick up my sleeve»! Thank you northern lights for existing. Thank you northern lights staff for making this world a better place.

Normally very pleased with N lights, as I have dreamed of their grinders many times. $ 3 movies are pretty sweet when a night movie is $ 12. However, recently, they changed their food. The portions seem a bit smaller. My philly cheese steak grinder was smaller as though they are using different bread. Which the bread was honestly my favorite part. The last few times it seems a little burnt. Just because I’m in the dark doesn’t mean I can’t see the burnt edges! The fries are also burnt and rarely have been warm enough. Seriously I have ordered this at least 20 times in the last year so I’m pretty in tune with my PCS grinder. This new lame grinder is a little strange considering the prices went up a dollar on food and now the food is smaller and less enjoyable.
Either way, the theater is always packed so they probably don’t care. Get there early so you can stand around and wait for them to clean up the theater.
Sidebar: I’d also like to know why people sit and watch the credits in entirety.
The $ 3 movie is starting to appeal less to me since they messed up my beloved grinder the last few times. Seriously, what’s with luke warm fries? Charging for ranch is also lame. Cinnebarre does not charge for ranch and you get a huge bowl in comparison. Just sayin.
I’m seriously so upset they have ruined my grinders. I think about them all the time. Now it will be nostalgically.

You can’t beat $ 3 movies these days. Plus you can get a beer and ‘food’ to enjoy while you watch. Overall a great place to go for an affordable fun night out. And I love that they show the football games for free. Definitely go for a Monday Night Football game.

They are now accepting credit and debt! They are keeping the theaters darker. They also have 3D movies, the glasses are okay but they are used a lot. I have been enjoying the $ 3 movies. Good Times.

This is a Salem landmark. I love this place. They have great prices and wonderful food. Their entertainment is original, fresh, and they keep their website renewed. I highly recommend this place for anyone.
I could do without the alcohol but I guess it keep them in business.

So they are late getting movies… that’s fine. The seats are good, the prices are not stupid crazy high, there is little stress getting inside, the staff are friendly, the sound is good…
… but the popcorn is by far the best in the State. I challenge you to not only find a better tasting popcorn, but a better price.

Now this place is a little piece of home. I love the concept of having a full-​service dining menu available during your movie experience. The way their system works it does not interfere with watching the film in anyway.
The prices are beyond fair for tickets and some of the films that are released that I’m not able to catch under normal circumstances come to this theater for a decent amount of time.
The food is good, nothing fancy but just as good as watching a movie at home and having some dinner with family.
