Murphy’s Chimney & Fireplace Service

Horrible experience.
They charged me 100.00 to tell me my fireplace was beyond repair and did not even clean my fireplace. I called willamette fireplace and they fixed what Murphys said was beyond repair.
If I could rate this company at zero stars I would.
Do yourself a favor and go direct to willamette fireplace and talk to Eldon.

My experience was better than the previous reviewers. Perhaps they’ve changed their ways? We got the groupon for a chimney cleaning and inspection. When I called I had to leave two messages before getting a call back. Then the lady tried telling me I’d have to wait a week since the groupon was for Vancouver. After telling her twice the groupon specifically said for Salem area and that I’m in Salem she got me scheduled for service in two days.
That is the only reason I say three stars. When the gentleman showed up he was on time, friendly, and very thorough. He did the inspection from the inside first then on the roof. He then proceeded to clean it out from the top down. Cleaned out all the old ashes, and somehow made no mess at all in my house. He gave me the report with acceptable suggestions for maintenance that he explained very well and showed me. No rip offs here, once I got the office lady to understand me it was great service. Thanks!

After reading the two posted reviews, I’m happy to add my one star rating. Thankfully both the appointments were «canceled.» My first appointment was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. My husband left work, drove home to meet the cleaner and waited for 30 minutes. Not only did neither of us receive a courtesy call, but when I did call to find out what the problem was I was told he ran into some trouble and would be over in about an hour. I get that things happen, but come on! Not even a phone call. That brings me to today. Second attempt to have our chimney cleaned. 9:00 a.m. I’m in the driveway of our rental waiting. It’s 9:10, I make the call. The response? «I have you down for 2:00.» That’s not what I scheduled. «Oh, you have a question mark by your name. Maybe I left you a message.» Nope! Didn’t get the message.
Don’t even bother. I’ll be researching today!

I wanted an inspection to see if my fireplace and chimney were use-​able, I received a cranky, crappy attitude with unprofessional, poor service — literally delivered NOTHING for the price I paid. My wife was there for the «inspection» not myself so unfortunately I paid before I knew the lack of what I paid for. I’m no snob, but upon arrival he left his truck running because he said it would not restart… nice. so while his broken and abused truck rattled and stunk-​up my driveway he quickly glanced up the chimney a few times, often stopping to check on his dilapidated truck.. via phone he gave me a line about how there needed to be an aluminum flap here and there, while yammering about his truck because it wasn’t running right. When I got home to read the report it didn’t have anything on it. Just the price, and inspection. I called to see what I needed to do in order to make my fireplace functional once again I spoke with a crotchety lady that was of zero assistance. This place sucks!!! don’t even waste your time.

I called this guy to inspect three chimneys (fireplace, wood stove, oil furnace vent), clean them if necessary, and provide an estimate for repairs if necessary. The guy showed up an hour before his appointment (when I wasn’t there), went up on the roof, and damaged the seals around the chimney caps. When I got there the guy gave me a huge song and dance about how all the chimneys had to be replaced and were dangerous. I know he was full of shit (eg: it doesn’t get 1200 anything like degrees inside of a furnace flue!) He was in an awful hurry to get out of there and became pretty close to belligerent when I told him that a) I was only going to pay the agreed on price (a $ 99.00 special that included chimney inspection and one cleaning) and b) I wasn’t going to pay him anything until he got his ladder back out and showed me what needed to be done — since he was all packed up when I arrived for the appointment. ABSOLUTELY avoid this guy.
* Since posting this I have (completely by accident)) located the guy who had annually cared for the chimneys for the past 23 years. He had rebuilt all three above the roof line around a decade ago. Hence, the guy from Murphy’s was, indeed, a lying sack of XXXXX, who was simply out to rip me off.
