I am not sure how to say this, my hamburg was very nice. Wonderful fried chips. My guest had the fettuccine with shrimp. The salad bar was OK. But the soup selections were mostly leftovers. Two of the cream soups were broken. I think they need to pay attention a little more.

Fresh, gourmet food. Love the chef! Great for double-date night. They have live music on the weekends. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I had an amazing time at the Mix bistro and bar. I was on a date night with my husband and we thought we would like try somewhere new. The mix didn’t disappoint! The staff were super friendly and willing to offer their suggestions and their favorites on the menu.(Thanks Jeff!) Service was prompt, and friendly. The food was outstanding and served in a very appealing manner. It tasted just as good as it looked, actually even better! My four star review is only because I lean towards a more vegetarian lifestyle and enjoy seeing a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan friendly meals. I would like to see an in-house/made vegetarian burger patty or some kind of artsy gourmet salad on the menu. We really enjoyed our experience and will recommend this restaurant to everyone! Apparently they’ve been open since November 2014, I’m sorry to have missed out this-far!

WOW. Followed reviews & tried this place. Not a good idea. First, if you want soup & salad(go somewhere else), ask to be seated upstairs where the salad & soup is. We were not offered that choice. Next, the table at which we were seated rocked about an inch from corner to corner, the iced tea had fruit in it; therefore is not tea, it is fruit tea(which I do not like). Service was horrific, waiter came by one time, when our drinks were full & never again. I sat at the table with my purse opened for 10 minutes before someone finally brought the check. Salad bar & soup is a joke. Only lettuce, no other salads offered(I’m sorry, but cottage cheese in addition to lettuce does not make a salad bar). Six soups advertised as homemade, but not sure on all of them. Soups are offered in 6 small crock pots which were mostly empty and not hot. The soup bar was not filled or checked while we were there. Tomato basil soup was ok, Chinese soup on the end was curdled, the«borscht» was beef veggie with emphasis on cabbage & grease, «crazy noodle» appeared to be left over from early last week, over cooked & bland, miso soup was just ok, & didn’t try the cheese broccoli. We won’t be going back, EVER!!!

We went on a Sunday for brunch. Food was excellent, and service was good. We were seated immediately. There was little errors in our order, but it’s to be expected with a group of 9. Nothing is kept on the table, so you have to ask for condiments, salt, pepper, etc. I had the Chicken fried steak and it was cooked perfect and tasted fresh. The potatoes are delicious and the bread tastes home made. My wife had the Crepes and the fruit was ridiculously fresh. I’ll be back!

Same thing again. Was looking forward to the best burger ever. The red dragon burger was out last time I was here so I was really looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately it was no longer on the menu this time. If people are saying best burger they’ve ever had in their life I would recommend finding some way to keep that on the menu. Service terrible. Soup and salad bar amazing

My hub and I heard through our friends that this place was«absolutely delicious» so we decided to go give it a try. It was a bit noisy with the band they had playing, but that was OK with us. The menu had a neat variety of yummy homecooked foods to pick from; so many that I wanted to order everything! I finally settled on the soup & salad bar and added the appetizer mac and cheese. I went upstairs to get my soup and salad. The salad bar is not a big huge thing like I expected, but it did the job. The soups were all homemade and delicious. They have them in these little mini crock pot type of things to keep them warm, but unfortunately the soups get used up fast and there was nothing left of the soups for a second bowl. The soup & salad combo comes with warm homemade bread and garlic butter, but you have to ask for the bread; otherwise, it will not get served to you. The mac and cheese is absolutely DELICIOUS! It was very rich and creamy and melted in my mouth! My only regret: Not ordering the bigger portion! Next time I will. I’ll definitely be back!

This is my third time coming here and the food has been amazing everytime! Their burgers are the best me and my boyfriend have ever had. They have duck fat fries to die for and just added a few new things on their menu. Tonight I had their spaghetti with hot dogs and it was delicious. Also tried their cheese sticks and they too were excellent! My bf had the mushroom burger and said it was amazing. Their homemade bread is also really good! I could go on and on about this place but have to try it for yourself! Service is also great, our server has remembered us everytime.

We came for lunch while passing through town, and I’m so glad we did. Our server was very enthusiastic about working here and the menu. I ordered a salad, you build your own. They offer many types of soups and encourage everyone to try them even if they don’t order it. They brought fresh homemade warm potato chips as a starter. Quite good. I ordered the Bleu Flame burger and my friend ordered a Red Dragon burger which isn’t in the menu but our server highly recommended it. I have to say it was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The patty was almost like a meatloaf in consistency and juicy and really flavorful. I also liked the bread rather than a traditional bun. Restrooms very nice and tidy. Many stairs do not wheelchair accessible,

I had been looking forward to trying this place for a while, finally did, and it was disappointing. We were there on a Friday at 8pm; the place was less than ¼ full. The tone of the evening was set when it took 3 separate unprompted visits from the waitstaff to tell us the complete list of the 4 dishes they were out of(before we even ordered). After that service was average, except our server forgot to bring the lemon was asked for and it took too long to clear our salad plates. Food was meh — my «mixed greens» salad was actually a spinach salad with a few slimy leaves that should have been thrown out; the Caesar salad was OK though it lacked any anchovies and the croutons were soft. The lobster crab cakes were good and definitely tasted homemade, but the mango sauce(thankfully it ended up mostly on the not-actually-jasmine rice) was gooey and overpoweringly sweet and artificial tasting, like melted candy. I tried my partner’s meatloaf, it was also a bit on the sweet side but was tasty, although it reminded us more of ground sausage than meatloaf. Asparagus on the side was cooked perfectly but had no seasoning(that reminds me — no salt/pepper on the table and no offer of ground pepper). The atmosphere was fine, although the piano playing is a matter of taste; I thought he was good but it was a little bit loud.

I checked out this place because I new restaurants don’t open all that often in Salem/Keizer, and it looked promising. When I arrived on a Tuesday evening, it was pretty slow. There was a couple of other people scattered around the tables, but it was quiet and dim. I liked it immediately. The waitress immediately came over and helped me and we talked for a little bit. The bartender told me he was a mixologist, so I did what I did; asked him to present me with a mixed cocktail, rum based, that he thought would be good to drink. I got a really nice, fruit-tinged drink(not overly sweet) that was quite good. I debated between two entrees as well. I liked the idea of the Hazelnut chicken, but their meatloaf medallions wrapped in bacon also sounded good. So I asked my waitress to ask the chef which he thought was better and then surprise me. She did and while I relaxed with a nice drink, fresh homemade bread(warm), and a delicious french onion soup, eventually the meatloaf medallions came out. The meatloaf was very good, and I don’t usually like meatloaf at restaurants. The bacon accented it well and the asparagus was cooked pretty much perfectly. The mashed potatoes on the side were also an excellent side dish. The price was reasonable, though maybe slightly too high for Salem and it’s location, but I can’t fault the quality. I’m hesitant to do five stars, not because of any lapse, but mostly because it was pretty good, but not super spectacular. I fully intend to go back and try some of the other entrees, at which point my review may go up, but my first impression of this place was that it is something to be glad to have around the area.

I’m always looking for great food and amazing atmosphere here in Salem so when I heard of a new restaurant here I got excited. So we me and my girlfriend another friend for their birthday, went in early tonight around 5 for a early dinner to give the wait staff the best opportunity for great service. Which it was I will give credit there. So we ordered I got«Red Dragon Burger with French Onion Soup» like others have said from ordering to getting food was a while but sometimes good food takes a while to make so I let it slide. Our food came it looked beautiful, large burger some home made chips and my soup was earlier for an appetizer. My first problem was the burger was overly sweet and didn’t have the taste of a burger at all. I wasn’t sure what it was at first. That it just wasn’t great. I continue to eat thinking the overly sweet flavor would pass but it didn’t just got more sweet. Our waiter he was prompt and great … I Informed him About it. just couldn’t believe the food, for a place that could have epic mind blowing culinary experiences, we got no offer if another item or refund or comp’d meal nothing. I’ve worked in restaurants for most of my adult life and never been to a place that the food was just bad. Maybe one day I’ll give them another shot when they’ve been open longer.

Great service. Pricey, but delicious food. Went at least 3 times from the time of discovery of this place and got something different every time. The food choices are different from most places, unheard of, but I am one to try new things. I enjoyed my picks and so did my companions with theirs. This place is classy, yet unpredictable. I enjoyed their hospitality and will indefinitely go again.

Thought we would try out a new place. Place was empty as it was night before Xmas eve and they hadn’t received their liquor license yet. Interior is done very nicely, not over the top. Waiter was extremely friendly. Son and I ordered the Pork Shank and my wife had the Hazelnut Crusted Chicken. The Pork was flavorful and the rice was moist. The sauce was perfect. Didn’t look as large as it was. Very full. Chicken was excellent! Moist with a nice crust. Mashed Potatoes were great. All dinners come with a choice of salad or soup. Wife had French onion soup, son and I had Caesar salad. Soup was very good. Salad a little soggy but good flavor. We came late so could be reason. Prices were very good. $ 17 for each meal. Overall great experience and I truly hope they make it. We will definitely come back and recommend to friends. Having liquor license should help. Oh yes, and my dogs loved the Shank bones!

As soon as I saw«soup and salad bar», I said that«this is the place for me!» I believe that the restaurant had just opened, and I was seated downstairs and was greeted and served by one of the owners, a very warm, humble, and delightful hostess. I was too late for the soup bar and too early for dinner, but it was the only time I had. My hostess said that she would accommodate me in my selection, which I chose the soup bar. She brought the most flavorful onion soup with homemade toasted bread and gruyère cheese. I could have kept eating that soup, but I was determined to try as many soups as I could. I ordered tomato basil next — excellent and so pretty interlaced with cream. Then I tried to order and eat the hobo gumbo, but I was too filled up to even finish. I did order a side of their fresh homemade bread, which was served with an herb butter. Very good and nice and warmed up bread(or maybe just made for me?). I was determined to try there in a day or two and I did. The second visit I did the salad and soup«all you can eat» lunch. Veggies were fresh and of good selection. The soups were all delicious looking and inviting. I had tomato basil again, as well as the onion(which remains my favorite). I did try the split pea with real ham pieces, not pre-packaged, and a little taste of the corn chowder. All very good. The restaurant is in a very interesting house. I’d love to live there! The owners have remodeled it beautifully — all the smallest details are there of the care and pride to take a really old Victorian and update it. Take time to talk with the owner, she’s delightful and the feather in the cap there! I’ll be back after the holidays when I have more time.

Mix was almost empty(only one table with customers) when we arrived at 6:30pm mid-week. We were seated promptly and told there was no alcohol available as the restaurant had not yet received its liquor license. The menu was extensive and fairly pricey. There were no vegetarian entrees. Several descriptions left us befuddled as to what we would potentially be eating. Initially, I decided on ordering the fish tostada with vegetables. I was a bit concerned with the freshness of the fish in a restaurant without patrons and when asking our waiter about the dish, he expressed distaste in this choice. This was enough information to steer both of us to the burgers along with french onion soup and an appetizer of pork belly with«apple mash.» The french onion soup looked appetizing and was flavorful. Unfortunately, the pork belly dish looked as though it had been regurgitated. The«apple mash» turned out to be mashed potatoes with apple chunks covered with a sweet cinnamon syrup. These ingredients combined with an overcooked pork belly went together as well as cigarettes and COPD. We left most of this dish uneaten. The hamburger meat was flavorful and cooked nicely. The bun was sturdy. Sadly, the pesto tasted strongly of burned garlic and had to be wiped off to make the burger palatable. The potato chips were plain, greasy and unevenly cooked — a variety of crispy and soggy(undercooked) slices. For us, there were too many strikes to return again to Mix.

Mix Bistro & Bar. I had dinner here last night with a group of friends. My partner and I have watched the space being renovated and we were eager to try them out. Presently they are just a Bistro as they have yet to receive their liquor license from the OLCC(C’mon OLCC, get your act together and stop dragging your feet!). We arrived around 6:15 and there were a few patrons in the place. The jazz band and singer were setting up. Two of my dining companions had already arrived and had started on some appetizers. I was told they were wonderful. My partner arrived as well as another friend and we proceeded to order dinner. My partner chose the medallions and he reported they were divine. I, along with the other three folks with us, chose the Pinot Burger. The Burger was delicious and the small new baked potatoes that accompanied it were awesome. The burger was clearly made fresh and the taste showed it was made with care. It was juicy and tender and melted in your mouth. The Pinot soaked onions were a little heavy on the burger for my taste and I removed about half of them, but my companions thought they were awesome. One small suggestion to the chef: We asked for a small amount of ketchup and the waitress stated she would have to find some. I suggest that perhaps you create some artisan ketchups and sauces to accompany your plating and enhance the dining experience. There is so much that can be done with those condiments, you should embrace the unique! Before we left we ordered a bag of their fresh made signature donuts to go. THAT was a treat above all! The raspberry mascarpone dipping mixture was amazing and the warm donuts were exquisite! Price point was right on. Some of the items are on the higher end, but most are right in line what one would expect for Salem. We will definitely go back but I think we will wait until they get their liquor license first.
