I just leased a 2016 Camry from Larry Baldwin, at Capitol Toyota in Salem. I really enjoyed Larry’s personality from the start until the end of the leasing process. He was on my side from the beginning and never pushing me or trying to steer me in a different direction from what I was looking for. Love these guys, leased my Prius through them because I heard they were great… and they were! Three years later and it’s time to turn in my lease and figure out what I want next. I decided to buy a vehicle through them since they are huge animal fans… AND they support the amazing Pet Peace of Mind program through Willamette Valley Hospice… win…win…WIN!

I went in for an oil change and I was real sick, the next thing I know the salesman had my Prius 5 looked at for a trade-​in when I made it clear I did not want to trade my car in, I loved it. I am older and they held me so late that I would sign anything to go home and go to bed. I went back the next morning as said I wanted my car back but they said, «TOO BAD»
When I got better I went to the bank that said they lied to me because they did not process my papers until three days later. The people that work at Capitol Toyota have no morals!
They lied, cheated and stole from me. They took advantage of my age, sickness and how tired I was. Never get a maintenance agreement from them they will just use it to steal from you later.

My (_!_) light came on. This feature apparently is a new car thing, (2010 and up) so a lot of cars dont have it and I had no idea what in the world it was.
On Tuesday I called, Toyota asking what this light meant. Apparently it means that my car has sense that my tires were low in pressure. All I need to do is add more air in it.
In the next 5 minutes, I add more air to it. The orange light did not appear.
TWO days later, my light went on AGAIN! I freaked out. I mean is my car broken or my tires? I called again, and they told me to come in. I might have a nail in my tires.
I learned that if the light is FLASHING= sensor broken. If it is just stable orange, it is normal.
After sitting there for 15 minutes, the guy tells me they found a screw in my wheel. Now that explains why the light went on and off. They removed the screw and fixed the tire for FREE!
To be honest, they could easily sold me a new tire or overcharge me, however they didnt. So thank you!

Worst car buying experience ever. If you have to buy a car, go any place but there. Avoid the greasy, douchy guy named Joe at all cost. He is rude, condescending and just all around unpleasant. They sold me a car that listed the navigation in the price and it ended up not working, which would have been fine, but they tried to make me look like i did something to it while test driving it and did nothing to help me fix it. This is just one example of how awful they are. There are many other things that happened that I could list, but I think my PTSD will flare up if I go into anymore details.

So I go in for an oil change. I sign in and give them my pre-​paid coupon I got when I bought the car. The guy said it was expired I said how can it be I was told they cover me when the time comes to do the oil change that’s why I got over 20 of them. After a short wait that is resolved then I wait for my car they do the normal thing and bring out the air filter and I say yes change them with your over priced ones. Then they are done.
I then take my car home and go to bed. The Next Day I drive to California. When I get to the border the lady ask the normal question
Any produce?
NO
Then she asked are you dragging something?
I don’t think so but I get out and check. All the bolts didn’t go back into my under cover and I am dragging a piece of it. I am 300 miles from home and cant turn back. I get to my destination late that night go to bed then drive to the nearest Toyota in Santa Rosa they heard me as I drove in and let me know I was dragging. I then enplane what had happened they said they would take a look.
They said due to the dragging part of the piece had been broken due to the oil change not being done there they couldn’t replace it but offered to sell me a new part that is yes over $ 200. I told them I couldn’t do that due to it not being my fault and was going to talk to the other Toyota. They patched it up for now. zip ties and duck tape. Then I was on my way. I finished all my items in Santa Rosa and started to make my way back north.
The Salem store called me about my car the day before I left. I let them know what happened they said if it was something we did they would take care of it.
I asked them to call me on Monday so we could set up a time to get it taken care of.
Monday no call. So I call Tuesday and ask when I can set up a time to get my free part installed. They inform me the part would be over $ 200 and the labor would be more. There is no way they could have made a mistake.
Baloney! I drove from one Toyota to my home then slept then found out it was dragging. That was the next day. I didn’t hit anything or scrape the bottom of my car.
The fact that they will not take care of the mess they made is so frustrating. I have always been taken car of at every other Toyota but this one seems to be well below the bar.
After my last visit to the Santa Rosa Toyota I wrote a Unilocal review and the staff at the store said thanks and sent me a message on Unilocal.They also called me after my oil change and asked if everything went alright. They followed up and took care of me.
I would not trust the Salem Toyota. I am going to wait for them to fix what they did until then this review will stay. They will not get a second chance. If it cost me 150 for a free oil change then the next day 200 more for something they broke they have got there heads up there @$$.

I wish that it were possible to give a negative number of stars to a business. Here’s the thing with Capital Toyota, Scion, Chevrolet, etc., everyone you meet in Salem has a ‘why I hate them’ story to tell. Here is mine:
I went in to the service center because the ‘brake’, ABS, VSC, and (!) lights came on in my car. I dropped the car off and asked them to also change the oil while it was there.
1. When I picked the car up they had performed a 30,000 mile service (because I requested an oil change?), even though it had only been about 8,000 miles since my 90,000 mile service which was done there!
2. They told me lights were no longer on and they could not replicate the issue. I got in the car, turned it on and wha-​la, there were the lights. I walked right back in and told them the lights were on. One person came out and turned the car off and on again a number of times, each time the lights came on. Then he went and got another guy with the code reader machine. They hooked it up and wrote down the codes. They said then and there that according to the code it was the right rear wheel sensor. Since it was too late to get a ride home, and they had said it was safe to drive the car, I took it home that night and brought it back first thing in the morning.
3. Day 2 — They said they had worked to diagnose the car for a long time and were not able to get codes. (What? I had watched them get codes the night before!)
4. Day 3 — They said they had gotten codes and determined that it was the «main computer» (that is a direct quote). They quoted me a price of $ 2211 for parts ($ 1711 for the part) and repair saying this was a discounted price because they were not charging me for all of the time they spent the day before trying to get the codes. When I asked what would happen if I waited to make the repair he said that it was dangerous to drive the car because the brakes could go out or lock up. Funny that it was safe to drive two nights ago.
I checked in with Prius chat, where I had been looking for information from the beginning and they said that «main computer» was incorrect that it was most likely the Skid Control Unit (a computer that contols braking). I checked online and found the part on the Toyota service site for $ 1400.
I called Capital service center back and told them that I had found the part for $ 1400 and he said «buy it.» I asked them to put my car back together and that I would pick it up that evening. I paid another $ 200 when I picked it up, bringing my total to $ 330 for the 30,000 service and the «diagnosis.»
I ended up bringing the car to an independent service center (P&M) who found that the problem was, guess what, the right rear speed sensor. It was a $ 150 part.
Capital service center is dishonest. Avoid them like the plague!!!

Maintenance/​Service Department review only. 3 stars friendly and helpful staff. 1 star for their actual service. My company has used them before to service its fleet vehicles, but we don’t go here anymore because they’ve screwed so much up. Then this week, during a recall visit, they actually replaced THE WRONG computer unit. So all these faults were showing up when I was driving around. I did get a friendly handshake and a sorry, but that’s it. And the salesman then proceeded to tell me all that is wrong with the car, yada yada yada. Whatever. Don’t go here… despite their friendliness. They are incompetent and are only in it for the money — and not to help you and your wallet. For service, take your cars down 25^th to Hertz and speak with Nate. He’s awesome. For Auto Body work? take your car to Vista Auto Body, next door to the south salem starbucks (the one across from Fred Meyers).
