This place is a must stop! Ingrid makes the most delicious tamales and smoothies. We stopped for lunch and it was quickly devoured before we could take a picture for the review! We tried the pork, chicken, and jalapeño and cheese tamale meals with the black beans and cilantro rice– all so delicious and fresh. Thank you Ingrid, you now have loyal customers!

I don’t know anything about tamales. So having said that, I tried all 3 types of regular tamales and the jalapeño cheese was my favorite, hands down, and worth coming back for. I did not care for the rice very much — tasted kind of like jasmine rice with a lot of garlic or something? — and just found it overall odd more than anything else. The green salsa was very good, also tasted like it had quite a lot of garlic, probably. Service was excellent, super nice and quick. That whole Chevron location is a bit awkward altogether, though, and easiest if you are heading towards the business district and kind of a pain if you are not.

Que Rico! Me encantan los de jalapeño. Los tamales tradicionales de Guatemala son riquisimos. Si tienes ganas de tamales este es el lugar.

My fiancé and I just moved to west Salem, he just went and picked up a half dozen jalapeño and cheese tamales and they are delicious! And he said everyone was very nice. We will be frequent customers!

Amazing authentic chicken tamales! The cilantro rice is also excellent. Their green sauce is very good, although you have to purchase it separately if you just order tamales. The veggie tamales wasn’t as good as the chicken. Very clean. Very friendly!

I’m very picky with my tamales. My number 1 criteria is cleanliness. This place is meticulously clean. Number 2 is the taste and masa/meat(or vegetable filling) ratio. The tamales are perfectly proportioned. The shredded beef, chicken, pork, peppers and cheese fillings are well seasoned. My 3rd criteria is the quality of the masa. A good tamal should have light, fluffy, smooth masa, not hard and dense. This is the best masa I’ve ever had. She uses absolutely no lard like traditional tamales call for and somehow managed to score a perfectly healthy masa. This is my new favorite place to go to get my tamales. I can eat them without guilt, now that I know there’s zero lard, and a vegetarian option with no cheese as well. Go check them out!

I used to help make tamales when I was little in California with Ophelia from Central America. I haven’t been able to find good tamales since! Best tamales ever and I am a hard critic growing up with awesome tamales! These match. You need them fully loaded with their green sauce and sour cream and cheese on top! So yummy! Best five star rating I’ve given yet! :))

Best pork tamales I’ve had in the states in the last 15 years. Fresh, moist, flavorful, expertly made. A bag of 6 was $ 10. Add sour cream, guac and salsa and it’s a meal for three. Definitely recommended. As others have mentioned, it’s in the Chevron gas station lot/area but there’s a spot to sit and eat right behind it outside. Definitely try them — all kinds of tamales available.

What a great little hidden gem for fresh tamales. This place is not the easiest to get in and out of since it’s located in a gas station parking lot but it’s a need to try place. I love tamales and these are so fresh and yummy you can’t wait to take a bite. Today I picked up a plate special for $ 6 which included 2 tamales(I got the pork), cilantro rice and black beans. Incredible portion and very flavorful. A must try!

If you love tamales, look for this place. The tamales were fresh and tasty. The beans were very well done also. It is a food stand, not a restaurant. Take out only. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Too bad I’m on my way north, and don’t live in Salem.
