Description

Specialties

As «Messengers of Reconciliation for the New Community in Jesus», we seek to transform our community and engage with our world, sharing who God is through our own transformation, our dependence on the Holy Spirit, and our obedience to Jesus.

At Bridge, we are informed and inspired by 2 Corinthians 5.14−19.

This is the essence of the Gospel, and it’s very exciting! It offers hope for people and for God’s creation. It comes down to what we like to call ‘the new community in Jesus.‘

We believe we are called to live differently! to offer people transformation, not despair; engagement with the world, not escape from it!

Jesus opened the doors to this new community; often called the Kingdom of God. It will be complete when Jesus returns. But with God’s help, we at Bridge are doing our best to model a taste of what Jesus offers as we share life together with him… right now.

History

Established in 2010.

Bridge Covenant started with an invitation from an area couple to plant an Evangelical Covenant Church (our denomination). That possibility was exciting to co-planters/co-pastors Carmen y Scott Bensink Lewis, and so began an exciting time of listening and praying: what might that look like?

Four years later, Bridge is 3 years new as a church plant. We began with lots of prayer & conversation, which lead to our ‘seed’ text (2 Corinthians 5.14−19), which led to our vision of a multi-cultural church living as «messengers of reconciliation for the new community in Jesus.»

Planting a new church is an exciting opportunity, ripe with possibilities for people taking a look at Christianity, those new to Christianity, and for those who have a long and rich history of faith. There are many opportunities to grow spiritually, and to share your gifts with Bridge and our community.

Bridge started with an invitation, and now the invitation is to you!

Manager

Carmen & Scott are ordained pastors with the Evangelical Covenant Church. They met & married at seminary, returning to Carmen’s hometown Salem with a confirmed calling to plant a brand new church!

Carmen learned Spanish while serving with Habitat for Humanity in Central & South America. She served as a missionary to Colombia, and with Young Life. She has a deep love for the many communities & cultures which share the Spanish language, and is excited to pastor a church which looks more like John’s vision in Revelation 5: «every tribe and tongue and people and nation.» She is a daughter of Salem’s Trinity Covenant Church. Trinity recognized Carmen’s gifts for preaching & teaching, and joyfully confirmed her calling by sending her to seminary in order to better serve God’s kingdom.

Scott was born and raised in Helena MT. Before entering seminary, he was a teacher. His local church confirmed and sent him to seminary as well, and he is honored to be serving this new church in Salem!
