Hackmann Lumber

When you want to purchase lumber you have to go to a back desk. The day I went there were 6 guys sitting at desks. Finally after being ignored for about 5 minutes one of them finally came up to the counter. I told him what I wanted to purchase and very rudely he asked what do you need the lumber for. It should not matter what I need the lumber for. He should have been happy I was making a purchase (over $ 500). It is us customers who after all pay his paycheck. I would have walked out but the only other place to purchase the length of lumber I needed was a further drive. Next time, I will drive the extra distance and purchase at the other lumber yard. This place no longer needs to worry about why I purchase something because I won’t be purchasing from them again!

I’ve tried shopping here a number of times and most every experience has been a negative one, especially with the men that work in the back section. They are always very rude and unhelpful to any questions I have. I figured it’s because I’m a girl and not part of the «good ‘olé boys club».
Today my husband needed a part to install our dishwasher, he was going to go to the big orange box, but I mentioned that he should go to Hackmann’s, you know, try and support small business. He called me, not having know of my previous experiences there and told me how rude the guys in the back are. They initially approached him in a friendly manner asking if he needed help, he told him what he needed for the dishwasher and the guy rudely answered, «did I ask you what the part was for?». He left out of there floored at the service, vowing to never return.
I did e-​mail the company a couple of years ago with my experience, I got a standard box apology and no further replies to my next e-​mail.
Now that we have yet another «big box store» in the area, you would think Hackmann would strive for better customer service, and now that I know it’s not just me, they have seen our last dollar.

Great family owned Hardware store. So much better than the big box stores. I have found better pricing and personal service in every aspects of this store.
