The O’Shaughnessy holds a unique spot in the cultural landscape of the Twin Cities. In addition to regularly hosting popular concerts (including appearances by kd lang, Elvis Costello, Indigo Girls, Brandie Carlile, and more) and speakers, The O’Shaughnessy is a home for Twin Cities Dance. Local companies such as TU Dance, Ballet Minnesota, CAAM Chinese Dance, and more make regular appearances at The O’Shaughnessy.

In addition, The O’Shaughnessy is the home of Women of Substance. The Women of Substance series was founded in 1996 to encourage all women to find their voice and place on life’s stage. The series, which hosts local, national and international artists, continually reminds audience members of both genders the importance of living lives of substance. With over 22,000 patrons annually, the series continues to grow with enthusiastic audiences and broad media appeal.

History

Established in 1970.

The O’Shaughnessy has been a unique spot in the cultural landscape of the Twin Cities. During the first 15 years of operation the hall was filled with classical, orchestral, and modern music. After the construction of the Ordway Music Theatre in St. Paul, and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, The O’Shaughnessy established itself as a venue for regional and local dance community organizations such as CAAM Chinese Dance, The James Sewell Ballet, TU Dance, and countless others.

The list of performers who have appeared at The O’Shaughnessy includes kd lang, Elvis Costello, and Brandie Carlile. Famous speakers have included Dr. Maya Angelou and Madeleine Albright. Comedians Jay Leno and Steve Martin have performed, as well as Broadway stars like Lily Tomlin.

The O’Shaughnessy is supported, in part, by the «Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment» & the Minnesota State Arts Board, Wells Fargo, Arts Midwest, The Boss Foundation, NEFA and VSA Arts.
