God I miss this pizza… I miss it so much I came to Unilocal for«food porn» photos and was not disappointed. I visit home a few times a year and this place is ALWAYS on the list of must visit places. Minnesota pizza is a thing and Savoys is the epitome of that pizza style. A cracker thin crust that has to be cut into squares in order to hold the copious amounts of sauce and cheese that cover it. The cheese pulls all the way from where you grabbed your slice to your mouth, that first bite is religious! Yum! Everything may be bigger in TX but it isn’t BETTER! I can’t get anything that even holds a candle to Savoys in the south. I miss this St Paul staple and can’t wait to come back!

I have eaten at this resturant several times. Parking can be difficult. This is a simple pizza place. No thrills or frills. But good service good prices and good pizza. Great for a family night. Be prepared to wait long enough for a pizza to bake.

I am sorry I have to write this review. I love Reds Savoy and it is the best pizza I have ever had. Unfortunately, there is more than that. Visited with my daughter, who is in a wheelchair. No real problems getting in or eating but when she went to the bathroom they were in no way handicapped accessible. Not one bit. Not at all. I should have known they didn’t care about the handicapped population when the only handicapped parking space was partially taken up by their dumpster. When I asked if there was another bathroom that was accessible, the servers basically indicated that there was not and they didn’t care. Not at all. Like, you are bothering us, go away. I was not happy and extremely disappointed for my daughter. If you are handicapped, have a handicapped child, or care about something known as reasonable accommodation, DONOTEATATREDSSAVOYPIZZA.

Lets be honest, if you are coming to Red’s for the service, you are a masochist. It always is terrible, and always will be. Yes, the owners are probably rude to 90% of the people they interact with and don’t give a crap what you or anyone else thinks. Your order will take abnormally long for whatever you order, whether it be a soda or a pizza. Your seats will most likely be dirty. None of these are reasons why you come here. You come to Red’s because you love the pizza. They keep the place dark like a strip club because you know that you should be ashamed for being here, but you still want to go without the general public knowing that you’re here. You want organic? Not here. You want farm to table? Not here. You want really effing good pizza that you hate yourself for loving and eating afterwards? Check. Just give in, expect to be treated like a piece of crap at an S&M underground club and eat your pizza. And they don’t have a safe word.

Love the pizza, disappointed with the bad racist press. Use to spend 200 a month for work events now won’t step foot in the place, even if you paid me. No pizza is that good.

There Facebook page explains it all and will inform you on everything but here is what recently happened at this establishment. I’l never go back to savoy pizza again. Got my food, ate, paid and as I left some guy asked me in the ally can I clean your windows for whatever you generously will give me. The owner comes out talking shit to me. I said: look sir this man ain’t bothering me he was walking past asked of he could clean my windows. Instead of him asking for take outs and panhandling he asked me to clean it’s my vehicle I gave him permission. I just ate here bought food and tipped your waitress I’m just giving him a opportunity. So he leaves the man finishes I go inside to talk man to man like that’s now how you treat people I understand you have your business but have a heart man. He told me if people want hand puts go talk to Obama I know your people!!! I said: hold up excuse me sir what are my people? He said: you know I don’t need to explain and walked away. The bartender said: we don’t care your not a customer you paid your stuff now your not a customer if you want to buy something else then it’s different. It’s a wrap it was good pizza but if your a piece of shit owner and talk to «My People» like that then you don’t need my people’s money. I came here since a kid my whole family but as long you get«my people’s» money your good. But my people won’t be back.

This is probably the best pizza I have eaten. Period. Friendly staff and awesome pizza. Great place for a quick take out or dinner for the family. Only thing I would say is it is fairly small, so plan some extra time for dining in. Awesome pizza!!!

Now this is yummy old school pizza! Their sauce has flavor, unlike many many of their competitors. And it even has a little kick! Wish they’d redo the W7th décor, bring it into this century, but at least the pizza is yummy!

Went to the Fridley location, walked in and ordered a pizza. I was told 20 – 25 minutes. So I sit down in a booth to wait. 1 hour later I go back and ask, where’s my pizza, its been an hour since I ordered. Give them my name and lo and behold, its ready. Only problem is its likely been ready for the past 40 minutes. They didn’t bother to tell me my order was ready and now its been sitting under the heat lamp for 40 minutes. I’m already running way late, so I take it anyways. Needless to say, very disappointing, barely warm pizza, whose thin crust was completely soggy from sitting so long.

i ordered tonite to pick up a large house special to bring home. we normally eat at the there. i have grown up eating Savoys and have always loved it alot. but night when i got home and tasted the pizza i as really disappointed. the crust was not the wonderful thin crisp crust i have gown to love for years. instead it was thicker and chewy. when i looked at the bottom it looked like the kind you would see from a store frozen kind. it even had small bumps that show when cooked in a perferated pan. i called and asked if something had changed and was told now. that it was the same crust used for years. was not offered anything for my disappointment in the product. ended up throwing the rest in the trash . I will not be ordering or going back again. another great place down the tubes. at least i have the memories of a great pizza Dan.

The pizza here is my absolute favorite! Nothing fancy. Just good, original stuff. That’s what pizza should be. Simply delicious! The toppings are piled on, but it’s never too much. The sausage is seasoned perfectly. The sauce is bomb diggity. Yes, I said bomb diggity. Haha! Don’t let the building or area deter you. It’s not that bad!

Best pizza not only in Minnesota, but even the best in the United States. I have traveled extensively and I can tell you they beat Chicago, New York and easily California. This specific location has the ambiance of an old bar and that is perfect, all they need is to bring back the Ms Pac Man bar top game they had in the 80’s and it would be perfect.

Somebody please fire Jody right now… Worst service I’ve ever received. She does not care about the customers and clearly is not bringing back any business. I had to ask for both my refills as she did not offer… Didn’t receive my salad so asked for that togo… I received my ravioli 10 mins before the pizza and had finished it by the time my husbands pizza arrived… She did not check back to see how anything was… We ordered a large pizza to ensure we had plenty to take home and ate about 6 – 8 pieces … When we asked for a to go box she brought us the smallest one — seams just crazy to me that I have to triple stack my pizza to bring it home. Good thing you serve good pizza to bring people in cuz you would be bankrupt if you had to rely on service! Tip — get your food to go!

St. Paul Red’s Savoy Pizza is a favorite pizza so far. I’ve been trying different pizza joints for years and always go back to Red’s in St. Paul. There are a few with kraut and the Eastsider is what we had this night, I like the kraut on pizza. The Tom Bernard pizza is my favorite, it too has kraut!

The pizza at Red Savoy’s is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities to get pizza. This location is the original location so you know they are doing it right. I always order the Eastsider which is basically a House Special pizza with sauerkraut on it. When I go to Savoy’s, I go with a large group and they are always able to accommodate our group and serve us quickly. One thing to know before going there is that they can not give you separate checks so if you go with multiple people, be prepared to have to figure out how to split the bill up on your own.

Don’t be fooled by the looks of the place(from the outside and inside). The pizza was not-surprisingly delicious. We had the Hawaiian and veggie, both of which I’d get again. Service was great, none of us ever had an empty water glass. For being a week night, it was pretty crowded which is a good sign. Especially if a game is on, it’s a great place to have a beer and pizza with friends.

Hands down, the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. We’ve been here several times in the past ten years and it is worth the drive. The only one worth going to is the one on 7th street in St. Paul tho, the others are not the same or even close.

Took the family to Red’s Savoy when we were on our last trip to St. Paul. The pizza was excellent, service was friendly and even with beers our bill only came to $ 32 for dinner for 3! Awesome!

This is an anti-hipster/foodie establishment. Red’s does not mess around in this old school pizza shop. Great thin crust pizza, made with an insane amount of cheese and toppings! Leave your«wanna-be» hipster/foodie cards at the door. They don’t want you!

I’ve been here hundreds of times. Hundreds. Not sure why it took so long to review. It’s quite simply the best pizza. Whenever we go out for pizza, it’s to the ORIGINAL Red’s Savoy. The ones in the strip malls are shameful. I wish Red would’ve just kept this one to himself. Anyway, the atmosphere is as much a part of the experience as the pizza is. Dark, dank, 1970’s through and through. The kind of place that you would scream bloody murder if the house lights were turned up and you saw the real Savoy. The huge fish tanks that my kids love. The waitresses that have worked there since pizza was first brought over from Italy. The old school wooden bar that just screams for you to sit and have a brandy Manhattan. The anticipation as you wait an hour or more for a seat during busy times. All of it. Heavenly. The kind of things you tell stories about when you’re old and grey. Square cut. Huge, salty flavorful cheese that’s so thickly layered it makes you cry. Sauce unlike any other: robust, snappy, spicy. Toppings abundantly thrown on. And most importantly, cooked until beautifully browned and charred. My kids have spent every birthday here. It’s the best around. If anybody comes at you with New York Pizza this and Chicago pizza that or even Neapolitan pizza B.S., you tell them to get bent, this is Minnesota pizza and its glorious.

Red’s Savoy Pizza is Minnesota nice. Savoy is an absolute legend. Former U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s 81-year-old father was busted having sex in the parking lot here(Stop that sausage joke you were going to make… That said, they do make their own sausage in house). Everything from the look, smell and feel of the restaurant is uniquely Minnesotan and has been since ’62. It is always packed and that is for good reason, this pie is easily in the top 5 in the states. Or otherwise. The Midwest is unique with their pies as they tend to double the amount of cheese used and then they cut the pizza into squares rather than the slices you would see in say New York or Chicago. They also worry little about the crust and tend to focus on the cheese and sauce. Oh, that sauce. The sauce… my god that delicious sauce… is thick and is heavily-seasoned with oregano and something that gives it a little kick which is bizarre as Minnesotans tend to have the blandest tastes on Earth. Oregano is everywhere in the flavor profile, acting like Bruce Jenner, erm, Cait on cable television. You just can’t get away. It is divine. Best sauce ever? Sure, I will say it. Why not? I am of the firm belief that when a restaurant has the tenacity to make its own sausage, I owe the place the respect of ordering it and the house made sausage was, as expected, the star of the show. The sausage had a perfect fat to meat ratio, was plenty spicy, and along with the sauce the pie was nearly«hot» in the spiciness scale. I am in the Twin Cities? My fellow reader if Red’s Savoy Pizza were to exist in OC or Los Angeles we would no longer have to sit slack jawed while our Chicago and NYC counterparts tee off on the local Pizza game. In fact, we could tell them to F off. 5 Stars? Everyday. All day.

I have been going here for EVER! at least 30 years, service has never been good, but, it seems like its gotten worse? mostly like, we don’t really care, we have enough business not to give a crap if you get your food or not. I think it’s the same staff? I moved years ago, still like to get a pizza when in town. No more bottomless drinks! By the can? still a great value on the pizza! none better, I ordered my kid a lemon aid refill, never got it, was charged for it, brought it up, and got the big look, like, you actually wanted it?! ADVISE for First timers, ORDERIMMEDIATELY! you may not have the staff drop by for possibly hours?! or order ahead of time, like ½ an hour. You will see the staff, they may bump into you while helping regulars? but, order immediately. only better pizza is in Spooner, bar in front of Pamida. Tony’s maybe?

Food was mostly edible but order was all kinds of wrong. We were told 25 minutes for pickup but we arrived in 20 and made to wait for another 40. Watched an employee take a pizza right from the oven and drop it right on the floor. Asked for bbq on the wings and got Bleu cheese. Asked for no croûton on salad and wouldn’t ya know it. CROUTONS. They also left the salad under the hot lights and literally cooked it while they took like an hour to make a pizza. So that was garbage. this place has decent food but the service is inept. If you go here just double check everything and don’t take any of the employees at their word. Or better yet, don’t even bother with this place. you can get decent food and poor service at lower prices if you go to Dominos. This may have been an off night. I have eaten here before and not experienced this sort of nonsense. But I will say that at no point did anyone say«hey sorry this is taking so long.» We literally just stood there staring at each other as ten minutes turned to twenty, twenty to forty …

My son-in-law is a St. Paul native, so when we visited recently we stopped here after a Saints game, about 10:30pm. If he had not known about Savoy I would have walked right by because everything was dark on the building — no lights at night! Maybe they were trying to close & put the lights out? Anyway, we all got pizza, and it was was SPECTACULAR! I didn’t even think I was hungry because I never eat so late, but I ate my ½ of the pizza I shared with my daughter! It was SOGOOD! I want to go back when I visit from Cincinnati again! Our waitress was cheerful and nice and provided good service.

The original! One of the best pizza joint that we have been to for thin crust. The kitchen closes at 9:30pm so don’t miss out on the mozzarella sticks and onion rings. This one is great for late night dinner with being open until 11pm. Don’t be alarmed with the location it’s worth it. Typical dive bar décor.

From the time we walked in to the time our pizza came to the table: over an hour. The waitress was attentive and polite, but… I brought my mom here, straight from the airport, when she came to visit me. I’ve had Red’s plenty of times but only take out. I told her all about how great it was. She was starving from traveling all day and hadn’t eaten for 12 hours. We told our waitress as much too. After 45 minutes she comes over to tell us that she forgot to put our order in but not to worry, it will be out soon and we’re going to get a discount. 20 minutes later when she brought the pizza we asked that the pizza be free. She said«No, sorry. I tried but they won’t let me make it free». So after waiting over an hour and telling her before hand that we were STARVING we got a $ 6 discount on a $ 30 check. WOW… thanks… Won’t be back. And thanks for making my Mom’s first 2 hours in the Twin Cities so impressive. Plenty of other reviews back up our experience, this wasn’t a fluke.

Foundation: Crisp Mortar: Plentiful, thick, spicy Bricks: Abundant! Roof: Lots of thick, gooey, tasty cheese The first time we took our children here, they were scared. The place is dark. It’s a bar with a dimly lit dining room. It’s a real dive. Don’t let it fool you. The pizza is about the best there is. Mountains of toppings, a spicy homemade sauce, cheese galore atop a crispy crust. Browned to perfection. Served on a tray. It simply doesn’t get any better than this. Yes, the price is a bit higher, but it’s worth it. And to top if off, the East-side St. Paul servers use descriptors like«hon» when they’re addressing you. This is the quintessential East-side pizza joint. It doesn’t get more authentic than this. Why hasn’t this place been featured on the«Dives» tv show?
