This is a MUST stop if you are in downtown St. Paul. The place is a classic and looks just like it did in the movies, small! The breakfast is what you should have and that is what they are famous for. I ordered a meal once. Never again… the grill is full of breakfast items and it takes forever for chicken! It was ok but nothing compared to the freshly mixed pancakes and hash browns! Most of the seats are at the counter but we did get a booth one time. The counter gives you the full experience. I prefer the counter spot next to the end… more room and better view of the master chef at work. It is amazing they can turn out so much food on such a small griddle. They always seem to have plenty of parking but we always walk there from the Xcel. Pancakes are HUGE!

For a tasty breakfast it is hard to beat Mickey’s. I’ve been coming in for almost 30 years, so it is about time I jump in to review. This morning was my American Favorite standby. My eggs were right on over easy, crispy bacon and everything steaming, including my raisin toast. Over the last year I started coming in regularly again with my friend Andrew or my youngest daughter Maya. I have not had one complaint in at least two dozen meals in the late 6 months. The staff is good people and Keith is the best short order cook I’ve met, including my 15 years in the restaurant business.

This is a St. Paul classic. A classic greasy spoon(if you are a germaphobe you might find this a cringe worthy experience). It’s been open day and night for 70 years. The history of this place is really interesting, and the food is exactly what you would want in a place like this. All day breakfast, burgers, soups, sandwiches, malts/shakes. It can take a while to place your order and you only get one chance to place an order. I never regret going here though.

While I love the flashback feeling of eating at Mickeys, the time that it takes to get the food can be a little disheartening. I ordered the cake and eggs combo, and it took roughly 30 minutes until I was served, and my friend ordered toast and hash browns at the same time waited another 15 before his food arrived. This allowed me to to finish my whole meal before his even arrived. Given the limited cooking space, I wasn’t that upset but it was disappointing. Once the food arrives though, it’s pretty tasty. It’s a greasy spoon and everything is done pretty well in that regard, but the service was okay at best. The staff was friendly, but scatterbrained. At one point I had a half cup of coffee which was taken away without me asking and brought back filled roughly 15 minutes later. If you can catch them during an less busy period, it’s recommended. The 30 minute rule for their booths, which is displayed proudly in the back of the car, can’t be obeyed as the service takes longer than the rule would allow.

Have wanted to go here for years, I think after initially seeing in the Xmas movie. Outside impression… cool nostalgia, but dilapidated. Inside impression… Maybe this place should only be open 23 hrs per day, so can clean it for 1 hr. Staff friendly and interactive; banter between waitress and cook funny. Keep eyes off the cook if u care about sanitary cooking practices. Got bfast even though it was afternoon. Kids got malts, 1 is enuff for 2. Meal not the best, but found hash browns unique with a rougher shred, some skins, and plenty of crisp. Rated a low 3, but if had to pick here or Panera tomorrow, would go here. 1 of these places is better than 50 chain places. We don’t want to lose places like this!!!

We had breakfast at Mickey’s today. We’ve driven by it a million times and haven’t stopped in like ten years. It was surprisingly good. I can’t give five stars to any place that doesn’t have real maple syrup, but my pancakes were quite nummy. My wife had a patty melt for breakfast which I thought was pretty odd until I tasted it. And we got out for $ 20 with coffee. It was a fun breakfast. Super nice short-order cook. It won’t take ten years for our next visit!

I have been to both Mickey’s Diner locations(this one and the one in Highland Park) in St. Paul quite a few times. I prefer this location location over this one because of the overall food, customer service, and visiting quality. I will admit that this location is hard to find because of the surroundings. It is surrounded by typical big city buildings. Before my first visit here, I never expected this place to be at such a location, which I think makes it that much harder to find. Once it is found, travelling there becomes much easier. When I walk in here, I feel like I am in a nostalgia, which is a good thing. I love how they decorated it to make it look like a 1950’s diner. I think that such a décor adds an interesting touch to the dining experience, one that I do not see in very many restaurants. The employees appear to stay on top of their cleaning duties. Seldom, I have had problems with cleanliness, but those ones I have encountered were minor. In these instances, the employees were apologetic. Therefore, I have always felt comfortable walking in here and eating a good meal. I have always been pleased with their food quality. The food here is almost always delicious. The plate has been served to me in a reasonable amount of time after I place my order. I mostly order from the breakfast menu. My favorite is their bacon, eggs, and toast plate(there is a name for it, but I cannot remember what it is). The waiters here are also friendly. Some of them are good at holding a good conversation on their slow times. They are also good at making suggestions when I am looking to possibly try something new. When I am in the area, I will continue coming here when I am hungry. I will also continue choosing this location over the other one. I feel like I can count on this location giving me outstanding service like they have in the past.

Arrived at 10:30a thinking we’d split the breakfast and lunch rush. But it was packed. Short line that moved quick. Had a ham omelette that was great. Just love the atmosphere.

This may sound silly but this was a bucket list item I wanted to accomplish. I saw this diner in the Mighty Ducks and said one day I will get there. And the experience did not disappoint. I got the California Burger on rye toast and it was amazing. Talk about going old school and the people there were friendly and courteous. The staff was checking on us even though 2 or 3 people were working. It felt like stepping into a time warp and was so awesome we went back for breakfast. Definitely worth trying when in the Saint Paul area.

Mikey’s Diner stands out as an old-school greasy spoon from the early 1900’s. Still in operation after 85 years, they provide a classic dining experience. I can honestly say it’s one of the few true diners left in America. The experience is the main reason to come here. Whether you want to visit the diner from«Mighty Ducks» or have a classic diner experience, this will give you that adventure! Other than that though, the food is normal. Nothing stands out but is certainly not bad. You definitely get the value for your money! The staff was friendly and offered some conversation. The cleanliness of the restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth though.(Pun intended) There was an evident small fly problem, although I can’t say where it came from. The building itself is old. Cracked windows, separating baseboards and walls, and worn down booths are in definite need of repair. Overall, I had a great experience there! It was more or less what I expected, but the feeling was great!

It’s a tradition for my son and I to hit Mickey’s whenever staying in St Paul. It never disappoints. Breakfasts are always good and there’s always plenty of food. Diverse clientele is a good indication of its popularity.

We had a great breakfast there this morning. The O’Brian special(with the onion, ham and pepper hash browns) was most yummy. My man liked his fluffy omelette as well. Don’t go if you’re squeamish about a little dirt in the floor or sensitive about gruff service – but do go if you want authentic diner experiences.

Cute little spot! I’m sure it’s only stayed in business because of its fame made in The Mighty Ducks because the food is not the greatest. The service was mediocre at best but for a spot that I’ve seen on tv since I was a kid, it was worth it! Very cheap prices too!

It’s really a four-star for me, based on the vibe. A great little classic diner in an old railroad car — I know, it’s been done before, but Mickey’s is legit. Whenever we play Saint Paul I amble over for coffee and breakfast. This time, it was the«two’s» — two pancakes, two eggs, two strips of bacon. Not great food, but certainly not bad, just solid grub in the middle of the city. And by vibe, I mean the cast of characters who pass thru are worth the stop for any traveler. Give yourself a little time, there can be a wait…

Best milkshake I have ever had! I ordered the Raspberry Milkshake and my friend ordered the Strawberry Milkshake. I could come here over and over and over for just the milkshakes alone. My friend and I both ordered the grilled chicken melt with hash-browns. She got her hash-browns with grilled onions and cheese. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the hash-browns were so good! If i had room, I would have ordered more. What made this dinner go above and beyond was the cook. He not only took care of us but he also made us sample pancakes that were some of the best pancakes I have ever tried! I was sad that I could not tip due to cash only tip… and I didn’t have any cash on me. This place is inexpensive for the quality of food and servive and entertainment you get.

Stopped here only to feel like a Mighty Duck while eating breakfast and was pleasantly surprised! It’s an adorable little dining car and we felt like we stepped back in time while having breakfast. We were able to park right outside in their little parking lot. Our server was friendly and offered quick greetings and service. I opted for the Denver omelet and added Monterey Jack cheese. The omelet was SO fluffy and was cooked perfectly. It was humongous but I ate the entire thing! My fiancé had eggs, toast, sausage, and the best hash browns we’ve both ever tried. OMG, so crispy and delicious! I also had a coffee and our waitress made sure our waters were full. I appreciate that they use fresh, local ingredients and list on the menu where in town many items come from. We left spending less than $ 25 including tip. Amazing! I’d go out of my way to come back here!

A local icon of a place, which is why we stopped(nod to A Prairie Home Companion. we kept an eye out for a lady in a white trench coat). its a no frills, no nonsense diner, just as you’d expect. My hubby had a huge breakfast for dinner and a milkshake… he gave everything a thumbs up. I ordered liver & onions(which I love and never make)…this was a little tough. I don’t think it was baby beef liver, more like a senior citizen cow with a drinking problem liver. But the fried potatoes were awesome. we’ve been here now and I don’t think we’d rush back… but it was fun.

Had breakfast at this icon of a place this morning. It is the kind of place that doesn’t exist anymore. Doing what it always has done since 1939. Serving great food and low prices. I ordered the chili omelet. A good hangover call. The traditional bean chili was good but the omelet had a fluff factor I have never seen achieved before. Beyond the food though the place is like stepping back in time. Sure the place could use some renovation but it would take away from Mickey’s mystique. Watching the waitress calculate the tax from a cheat chart is an experience worth keeping around.

Last night I paid $ 38 for a measly plate of five scallops at a big-deal Italian restaurant in St. Paul. Today, I walked 1,000 feet further, and stepped into Mickey’s Diner and was treated to a wonderful experience in a setting that has to be seen to be believed. I paid a whopping $ 7.95 plus tax for a «Black and Blue Bowl’ — a nice fresh dinner salad with a 4-ounce strip steak, fried onions, and Texas Toast. Comfort food nirvana! How cool is Mickey’s??? It’s an old dining car from the 1940’s, it has been featured in dozens of TV shows and movies, and best of all — it never closes– its open 24÷7÷365. It’s like stepping into a time machine and being propelled backwards in time six decades. I sat at the counter, and soaked in the atmosphere. Here is what I saw. A super polite young server who seemed like he stepped out of the Archie comics. A blue haired short order cook, who was as nice as could be. Some businessmen and down-on-their-luck types sitting alongside me at the counter, a family of three enjoying burgers fries and shakes, an older couple deciding they wanted pancakes, and two chatty college aged young ladies who laughed all night and were adorable. People of every description and walk of life come to Mickeys for good old fashioned honest food at a super reasonable price. What a cool place!.

Mickey’s is everything you ever wanted in a greasy spoon diner. The waitress is cranky and yells for your order, the place is dingy and covered in crud… it’s fantastic! However, I recommend you do not sit and watch the food getting made… when you see how much butter goes into an omelette, you may just never want to sink your teeth into it… it’s insane! Go here once for the experience, it’s a cool place in an old train car… classic diner!
