Specialties
We make artisan ice cream, handmade novelties, ice cream cakes and cupcakes for our retail shop. We also sell our ice cream to restaurants and some grocery stores. Something you might not know about us is that we also specialize in full-service catering ice cream events for larger groups, businesses, wedding, and other events. We also do a lot of kid birthday parties and corporate tours/team building activities for business or larger family groups. The tours include a private tour of our shop/ice cream making kitchen and a private dining table with ice cream treats for your guests. Some tours include making your own flavor of ice cream. More information is on our web site at www.izzysicecream.com.
History
Established in 2000.
Jeff and Lara opened up Izzy’s in 2000. We made ice cream right in the retail shop while serving customers. A couple years later we were able to move our ice cream making next door, where we currently make all our ice cream. We had some exciting things happen along the way. Reader’s Digest named Izzy’s as Best Ice Cream in the Country. That led to Izzy’s being on the Food Network’s Throw Down With Bobby Flay, where Izzy’s Hot Brown Sugar won over Bobby’s flavor. The local press was also very nice and generous to us, publishing lots of local articles on our ice cream. Owners Jeff and Lara continue to own and run Izzy’s. They keep thinking up new flavors and new innovative ideas to make Izzy’s great.
Meet the Business Owner
Jeff S.
Business Owner
Jeff Sommers is co-owner of Izzy’s Ice Cream. He opened Izzy’s Ice Cream in 2000 with wife Lara Hammel. Jeff is the idea guy behind Izzy’s. He is the innovator of the izzy scoop (the little scoop we put on top of all our single and double cones) and the creator of our web-based RFID flavor notification system, Flavor Up! He also is the person who pushes Izzy’s to always challenge itself. Some of his projects include implementing 200 solar panels on top of our roof to make energy from the sun and using Zap Water a non-toxic cleaning system for cleaning.
